Chapter 12: A bit of History
When everyone was briefed on the objective of this mission, they boarded the helicopters and started moving towards the mansion, where the call came from. The mansion was located in a remote area near the state border. Even traveling via helicopters would take about an hour to arrive there.
The country of Sareld was located on an island that was from north to south 542 km long and from east to west it was 663km long. The main problem however was that about half of the countries territory was Danger Zones, where Mutated Beasts, remnants of WW3, run amok.
Mutated Beasts came to being in places where wildlife mutated due to having a high levels of radiation. Those places were generally spots where Nuclear weapons were detonated. After WW3, due to increased levels of radiation, people started to undergo a genetic mutation as well and ESP ability holders started appearing one after another. After the 3rd WW the world changed drastically from what it was.
Every country started gathering ESP-ers as they were “a stronger weapon” than nuclear weapons. Since ESP-ers had all sorts of different abilities, they were in high demand in every profession. The combat part was most heavily developed. Most of the modern weapons had no effect on these Mutated Beasts so ESP-ers who had the ability to kill them were in an extremely high price. The most valued were ESP-ers who had an ability that had something to do with mechanics.
They could invent new weapons or everyday items, they could also upgrade these items. That was the main reason “mechanic ESP-ers” were the most eccentric but at the same time most valued. A combat type ESP-er was useful as long has he or she was in active duty but the inventions of mechanical ESP-er could be used even after their death.

A country's strength was now determined by three factors:
1. Their economic level.
2. Combat type ESP-ers strength
3. How many good “Mechanical ESP-er” they had.
As every ability had its own variety of uses, there were not set in stone types. Those who had no direct use in combat could still use it in combat in some way. The outline of combat type and noncombat type was very vague. One of the best examples of this is telekinesis. Depending on how one used it, it would be either a combat type, throwing things at your enemies, or a non combat type, like a construction worker.
Since a country had a lot to gain from ESP-ers they set up different divisions for them. The Medical Division, Combat Division, Logistic Division and Research Division. Those were the four main subdivisions of the ESP Department. Every Division also had its own subdivisions and so on. Since they were a lot of use to the government, their privileges and payroll were quite different from a normal persons.
For example, a soldier with an ESP ability earned 4 times the amount a normal soldier of the same rank did. They had a lot more freedom with their movement as well. Since a normal soldier did not stand a chance against a Mutated Beast alone but an ESP-er did, it was understandable.
However, all bright sides have a dark side. Even though ESP-ers bring a lot more possibilities to a country there are always people who either welcome it or despise it. Around the world there were various sects and organizations that either believed in normal peoples superiority or ESP-er superiority.
As usual, even these organizations and sects had different beliefs and their radicality was different. From the normal human radicals the most infamous was the organization “Natural Earth”, on the ESP superiority was the organization “Nirvana”. The both of them had the same goal: One side rules over the other. They did not understand the term “Equality”.

Natural Earth saw all ESP-ers as an abomination. It was not known whether it was born from a religious sect or from people who were jealous of ESP-ers because of their abilities, so they believed normal humans were supposed to rule while ESP-ers were supposed to serve them.
Nirvana was on the other side of the spectrum. They believed ESP-ers were chosen ones that should rule and normal humans who did not have an ability were supposed to be their slaves.
They both were an underground association that had roots in every country on the planet. To get rid of them was impossible as no one knew, where their headquarters was or even, who were leading them. All the government knew was this, they had connections and people everywhere but they blended in too well to be distinguished from others.
Around the world there were towns or even whole counties that were either ESP-er haters or “Normal Human” haters. The town Alex and Sandra were born in, was one of the most radical examples of these kinds of towns. The towns people believed that normal humans were supposedly superior to mutants like ESP-ers.
The job of Dragoncross is mainly to keep these two radical groups under suppression. However that is easier said than done as the people in those two organizations are like brainwashed sheep. They would rather give up their lives than betray their cause.
The main reason Alex was assigned to juvie was that maybe he could get something out from the younger generation who was caught. In the two years he spent there, the results were extremely lacking. The other reason Alex was assigned to that mission was so that he could cool his head.
The money the government invested into this operation was practically thrown to wind. The government was quietly starting to lose hope in dealing with those two organizations. They were always one step ahead, no matter how secretive the mission was. When dealing with these two organizations, the government felt like they were fishing for a needle in an ocean, they had no way of obtaining anything no matter what they did.
This “war” of government against the radicals was a true uphill battle.

What is your answer?’ Tus heard the ancient voice that sounded like sandpaper as he stared at the altar with the land and sky frozen in motion. The words repeated themselves over and over again, forcing him to answer without the chance of taking it back. Armed with a borrowed sword and cheap armor that looked like wood, he said aloud without hesitation, “Yes!” The altar hummed, a green light flickered in the surroundings, and Tus ceased to exist.

Though don't worry this doesn't mean you can't enjoy this one before I write the first. This is the first story I've actually published so I appreciate any feedback, be it good or bad just let me know what you think.
