《Descent of the Arcane》CHAPTER 2: Tutorial 2

At this point one man seemed to go insane from this situation and tried to attack the 'orc' in front of everyone. Baltar just smirked before a pressure descended turning his would be attacker into a bloodmist along with the sword he had been holding.Almost everyone in the clearing crashed to their knees, some even having blood come from their nose eyes and ears. There was only one exception, Caleb, who just stood there staring at Baltor. He felt a wave of pressure and knew instinctively that Baltor had the ability to not only kill him effortlessly but could have destroyed the entire planet he called home,
Baltar stared for a moment a glint passing through his eyes as he looked at Caleb before moving on and retracting his aura."The quest type has aspects of all other types of Tutorials. Your Tutorial also has 7 cities. Each city will allow you to buy and sell things. More importantly the cities house the Chaos Crystal. The Chaos Crystal allows; Evolution, acquiring a class and/or a profession, buying of system knowledge, Race Change. Inside the city will be run by one of the races of Asbalar, Asbalar is the system generated name for your homeworld after merging with the other 3 planets of the Cradle of Life and being enlarged. You may now each ask your question.
One woman stepped forward and asked, "What happens if we die?"
"If you are over level 10 and already evolved you will just be removed from the Tutorial and put into stasis before returning to Asbalar in three months when the Tutorial ends. If you die prior to evolving you will receive the offer to join the Undead Empire as a Risen" Baltar said.
"What do you mean by Race Change?' one man asked
" The system will change you from a human to one of the other 6 races of Asbalar, this is a one time thing only. Also your 'forerunner of earth' tittle will change to 'forerunner of Asbalar' once you return to your modified planet. There are benefits that each race has and some from the other races may choose to become human as well. " Baltar explained.
A few more questions were asked, Caleb waiting till the end so he would have a better idea what to ask. Finally it was his turn. " Baltar you have mentioned buying things and selling them, I am assuming that 'Race Change' you mentioned will cost a lot as well. My question is where do we get the money for that as i assume the U.S. dollar has become worthless."

"Haha. I was wondering if anyone would ask this. You are right the only money now is credits and for you Tutorial points. Everything you kill gives credits and Tutorial points.you can turn Tutorial points into credits, but not the reverse. If you kill another Tutorial taker you will only get half their total TP, although you will get all their credits. And because you interest me I will say a race change costs 1,000,000 credits and must happen before you become (E) rank or leave the Tutorial. With that I will be leaving wish you luck."
Caleb stood there trying to organize his mind and thoughts. At this time he heard a notification from the system.
**DING** Skill acquired; Journal: allows use of system panel to right down thoughts and ideas. Every 5 levels in race adds one panel.
Caleb seeing this decided to try it out while wondering why he kept unlocking skills so easily.

After a bit of testing Caleb was able to figure out the rules of his new skill. First to begin Writing he had to designate the use of the panel, kind of like making a folder on a computer. Whatever he designated it would determine what he could put inside. The system made he were he couldn't right about say metals while in a panel designated herbs. Secondly once a panel designation was selected the system would ask if he wanted to confirm. Once he confirmed the choice could no longer be changed. He also learned that the skill could evolve to be far more useful.

Taking a few moments to asses what he learned Caleb decided to try out the wand that he had picked up. He cast the spell enchanted inside at a tree after moving away from everyone. After casting the spell 7 times he had begun to feel his mana move from his body to the wand. Feeling excited Caleb began to wonder if this would allow him to learn to cast spells even without a wand. He rushed to cast more. Each mana bolt took 5 seconds to cast, though Caleb was sure he could learn to shorten that time. After 4 more casts Caleb had a slight headache and each time he tried to cast the spell it failed. After the 3rd failure he decided to check his status page, this time saying it in his mind to see if that would work which it did.

SKILLS

JOURNAL: allows use of system panel to right down thoughts and ideas. Every 5 levels in race adds one panel.
After looking at his status panel Caleb realized that he was nearly empty on mana. Doing quick math he realized that each mana bolt cost 15 mp. Taking out his dagger he tried to test his stamina, he chose the dagger as he didn't want to damage his saber by hitting a tree. Stabbing the tree 10 times as fast and as hard as he could Caleb then checked his stamina seeing it had gone down about 20 though even as he looked it slowly ticked up one. After thinking he was sure just regular activities would drain stamina like in the old world but he imagined that there would be skills that would drain far more.
At this point man who had been among the first to grab a weapon walked up to him." Caleb is that you?" Turning Caleb was confused as he didn't recognize this man. The man was mid to late 30's if Caleb had to take a guess. Caleb himself being 21 though he'd be 22 by the time the Tutorial ended. Instead of answering verbally he just nodded his head while keeping his guard up.
"It's me Thomas McGrer! Do you have any better idea on what is going on." The man said.
Caleb was shocked to say the least, taking a closer look he realized this man indeed was his grandpa's best friend. The shocking thing was that Thomas McGrer was 106 this year. His grandpa had been saved by him in the Vietnam War. Thomas himself had fought in three separate wars since he was 15 years old and had even became a merc after that. When asked why he fought so much he would always reply the same, "I am a fighter. I may not be able to save a life by healing someone but on the battlefield I have saved many." The thing that didn't make since was how could Thomas have become so young. It was not until Caleb remember the system prompt that it all made since.
WORLD JOINING THE MULTIVERSE!
ALL SAPIENT CREATURES RELOCATED TO THE TUTORIAL
CHILDREN IN THE FIRST 5% OF LIFESPAN MOVED TO THE TEMPLE OF THE GODS UNTIL THEY RECEIVE A CLASS AT LEVEL 10
ALL SICK OR INFIRM HEALED ALL AGED PEOPLE RETURNED TO 30-40% OF LIFESPAN
Now some may say that he shouldn't have forgotten something that happened only a few hours ago but the truth is way to much stuff had been happening so fuck those people. " Man I am glad to see someone I know. Currently I know just as much as you about whats going on. But i have a feeling that we need to get to one of these cities. First that giant said that the glade would soon loss its protection and being here without a bunch of people when it does seems like a bad idea Secondly I believe another danger to us is the other Tutorial takers maybe even more so."
"Ok, then me and Jared will come with you. " Thomas said before calling out to a man who looked to be 40.

The Patchwork Realms
Athos is a good dog. He likes frisbee, bacon, and his family (SmolFriend, Mom, and Dad). He's not so keen on falling through an interdimensional portal to a fantasy world where floating boxes tell you that you've just been given status as the 'Supreme Exemplar' of your species, a powerful package of abilities that includes human-level intelligence. Sure, being smart is nice but less so when it comes with the need to survive in a land made from bits of different dimensions stitched together like patches in a quilt. A thousand species, a thousand lands, sorcery and super science rubbing elbows, wars and intrigue everywhere...it's exhausting for a good dog who just wants to go home! Note that this is a work in progress with lots of fiddly numbers so I will occasionally need to go back and fix errors, and this might affect events of earlier chapters. I'll try to keep this to a minimum and will post a note whenever it happens. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
