《Ascend》Chapter 26. Start

Chapter 26. Start 'Oh god! Why are you going there, go the other way! And why is he just standing there?!!!' These people are so bad. Six people fighting a single goblin and can't even kill it. Two people are enough at most three, having more people is just a disadvantage if you don't know how to fight together. What were you doing inside that tower? To be this bad even after a decade. I needed a week to fight them, what were you all- "Haaahhh, this is such a disappointment." I threw a rock, which hit the goblin's arm making it miss the spear wielder just by an inch. The tanks just stood there defending themselves. Like you are supposed to block attacks so the damage dealer can attack and do their job. "Just end this." I threw some more rocks, one hit the eye while the others made it lose balance. "Lucky!!!" the one who came to invite me shouted and every single warrior jumped on the goblin chief. "Haha, we didn't even need your help, Coward." Underling A said while staring at me but I couldn't even get angry, there was only pity in my eyes. "Am I the only one who thinks that the experience is not enough? Like six people killed a D-grade goblin!" Underling B said and everyone agreed except the leader. Looks like he was the only one with a little common sense, still pathetic at fighting. The tower gave 'bonus experience' for every kill, you could see that in the notifications. It was just that I had never fought in a group and did not know how the experience was distributed, equally divided, or upon contribution. I was still in a bad mood, so to avoid an outburst and do something stupid I moved from everyone. These people were weak, there was no sugar coating this. If I was not there today, at least one would have died. I couldn't leave them. I was capable of keeping them alive without actively helping them, leaving them just felt inhumane. I will stay until they find someone reliable and then move on to find some information. What exactly changed, what happened to this planet. The people huddled together with the non-combat unit in the center while others who could fight surrounded them. I stayed out of the whole thing and none objected probably not wanting to make someone stronger than angry. After a long discussion, it was decided that our first priority was to find food and shelter, which was true but the way they were executing it was the problem. The group had decided to form pairs that had one task, to find any store nearby and check if there were any monsters nearby. No matter the result they had to report back immediately. The city was pristine clean, with no signs of damage anywhere but what was in the city, none had a single clue. Scouting and retreating while trying our best to avoid fights was our best option available. We were lacking the information to take any major steps. But one situation was being neglected. I was about to start walking towards the leader when he approached me first. and the first thing he did was apologize. "Sorry! It was only because of you that no one was injured. I am here to say sorry on their behalf, please forgive their childish behavior." he bowed and spoke with a soft voice, just enough for both of us to hear. I exhaled trying to let go of the little frustration that was held, "Name?" "Hendry." "It's fine Hendry. I wasn't particularly angry, just disappointed but we can talk about that later. I do not know if are aware but there are monsters stronger than your so-called 'disaster level threat.' If any of the pairs meet one, I guarantee they aren't getting out in one piece." He gulped, he was nervous probably scared too but fortunately, he was able to keep calm and think rationally. "Any way to avoid or kill them?" "I won't lie but the goblin chief you fought today is probably the weakest of the bunch. I can handle a max leveled chief but any more than, not too sure." "What do we do then? We can't fight like this most of us will die!" He looked at me with puppy eyes, hoping for a solution which I was going to. "I brought the problem to light so naturally I have a solution, and don't make such eyes before me. They gross me out. Just make groups of three instead of two and find an area that is open but with sufficient cover to hide us. Preferably a two-story building or place that can provide sufficient view of our surroundings." "And what about the food?" he asked not intending to object or question my previous decision. "I'll take care of that, just don't stray too far off from this area even if you don't find a shelter." I was currently in the shop I used to work. "It feels like forever since the last time I've been here." The shop was in perfect condition, there was no electricity, and the reason for it was still unknown. 'This might be a problem.' I thought because people were too used to electricity as it provided a level of comfort. A blackout for some hours would be fine but if it went on for weeks or months, someone will lose his shit. The food in the shop was in top condition like the power just got cut off a minute or two ago. I could roughly count about thirty people in the area at that time, even if there were forty at max this was sufficient for a month. This did not include the stuff that was in the refrigerators, that was going to mold or get spoiled. But still, that was not going to be enough. We were a large group and if people without proper leaders heard about us they were going to come to find us. People thought that there was safety in number and that was true but only if you know what you are doing. The more people there were, the more chaos it would cause later on. I had some idea but not everyone would be open to them, some were going to oppose and I would not force it. I was ultimately going to leave them after a while, I could try helping but if they themselves did not want to be helped, there's nothing me being there would change.
