《Angel's Song: Requiem of the Dreams》256. The Question (II)

Snow was surprised that Mr. Rogers had been planning to go against the Demon King for so long. By now, she thought he would have pushed such thoughts aside. Not only that, all three of them escaped five hundred years ago.
“I have been recollecting all the Black Box series.” Mr. Rogers stood up straight. He slowly waved his hand around in a horizontal arc. “I have at least sixty percent of it while the Dragon Express has at least five. The rest have been missing, and you bring back No. 00 has been a great boon.”
“What does it do?”
Mr. Rogers sighed. “I don’t know.”
“You don’t?”
“Yes, this is the only one which we didn't figure out. We used the best materials to capture the energy.” Mr. Rogers tapped his fingers on the glass drawer. “Though, I have a strong feeling that this series will help us combat against the Demon King.”
“How are you sure?”
“Instinct.”
Snow crossed her arms in front of her. She didn’t fully believe him, but she knew Mr. Roger’s instinct was on point. Mainly because he was considered an S-class monster. S class monsters were considered a class of their own.
Mr. Rogers chuckled when he saw Snow’s expression. “Well, I do have something that could possibly tell us what it is.”
“You do?” Snow asked, interested.
“Yes.” Mr. Rogers walked over toward the right. He reached over and grabbed up over his head. Picking one of the Black Box that said No. 100.
It had a slight glow to it with blue lines that crisscrossed all over. It was the exact size No. 00.
“That is?”
“An identifier.” Mr. Rogers walked back over. He placed the box next to the No. 00. “This was the last Black Box created, and the grade level is SS. It should be able to find out what it is unless No.00 is a higher grade than that. Let’s see what we got.”
Mr. Rogers pushed the Black Box No. 100 closer to No. 00. All of a sudden. No. 100 started to glow even brighter and brighter. An electric spike of energy shot out, hitting No. 00.
No. 00 started to hum. Fiery red lines began to glow on the black box, creating horizontal and vertical lines.

“Is that normal?” Snow asked.
Mr. Rogers didn’t say anything.
Both boxes started to levitate in the air. The clashing of blue and red energy became more powerful than before, hindering both their senses.
Snow's eyes started to blur, and her hearing became a throbbing pain.
Even Mr. Rogers was having difficulty trying to focus.
Both boxes started to come together.
It hummed even louder and louder as both boxes started to change into a black liquid form. The liquid reached out, mingling with one another. Until finally, it became one.
With a final hum, the Black Box cluttered back onto the table.
Snow and Mr. Rogers went silent. Staring at the Black Box as if it was going to do something else, but nothing happened.
Mr. Rogers coughed, startling Snow. He reached over to pick up the Black Box. There wasn’t much difference between its previous appearance. The only change was the blue and thin red lines that lightly pulsated around it.
“Did anything change?” Snow asked curiously.
“I believe so?” Mr. Rogers said with one eyebrow raised. “I honestly don’t know. Nothing feels any different.” He flipped it around a few times.
Snow watched the electric current running through the box.
“The No. 00 is still there, telling me that it's still the original series, but No. 99 just seems to have disappeared.” Mr. Rogers was stumped.
“Would it do the same with the others?” Snow asked. A random thought came up in her mind as she could see whatever Mr. Rogers was trying to do.
“What do you mean?” Mr. Rogers asked. He stopped twirling the Black Box in his hand and looked up at her. The question sparked his own curiosity as the light in his eyes started to glimmer with interest.
Snow pulled out her Black Box, a long rectangular shape that held all seven of her swords. It appeared before them on the glass table as she magically pulled it out of thin air from her storage.
“Your weapon box?”
“Well, yes. It is still considered one of the Black Box series No. 78. The only function that it has is to store many different weapons.”
“True.” Mr. Rogers said, scratching his chin. “We could try…”
Mr. Rogers was already reaching over toward the Black Box that Snow had placed on the table. He put it on top. The moment it touched her weapon case, No. 00 started to glow red and blue all over again.

This time, it quickly dissolved and melded into No. 78. The No. 78 labeled on the top corner of the rectangular box disappeared and was replaced by No. 00.
“Try it.” Mr. Rogers motioned his hand for her to use it.
Snow nodded her head.
She reached out to open the Black Box. With a hiss, as if it knew what Snow wanted, the box opened up. All seven of her sword's handle was displayed for her to show her that it was ready to be pulled out.
Snow took a handle of her Black Widow.
Pulling it out, Black Widow glimmered dangerously. She stepped back.
With a swing of her sword, she attempted to see if anything else had changed. But so far, the sword still felt the same.
“Anything?”
“No,” Snow said with disappointment.
“That is strange.”
“Yes.”
“There must be something.” Mr. Rogers spoke. He reached over to look more in-depth into the Black Box No. 78, but when he reached over to touch it--a static electricity shook out of its depths, causing Mr. Rogers to pull back in surprise.
“Did you see that?” Mr. Rogers shook his hand.
“Yes.” Snow replied, surprised that No. 78 wouldn’t allow Mr. Rogers to touch it. “It rejected you.”
“Which makes me wonder….” He reached over one more time. This time, his hand started to glow black and red. A sudden clashing of energy appeared before him, raging against each other like a raging lion.
The energy between the two became a horrible clash of dominance. Mr. Roger’s own power was being pushed away, causing ugly cuts to form all over his hands. Eventually, he had to disengage, allowing him to recuperate his hand.
Ugly cuts of blood were present.
“Are you alright?” Snow asked, concerned.
“Yes.” Mr. Rogers raised his hand. He licked the back of his hand where blood was present.
“This is interesting. You should try it.”
Snow nodded. She reached over. The black box shuddered, opening up. All seven blades were present, allowing her to pick it up.
“That is quite fascinating.” Mr. Rogers had said with curiosity. He was rubbing his chin, looking over at the sword Lady Luck in Snow’s hand. “Who would have thought that only you will be able to hold the weapon.”
“That isn’t a good thing, isn’t it?” Snow flipped the sword over to take a closer look. She thought she had seen a few things changed with Lady Luck. The energy around the sword was much more denser than before, telling her that it had grown even more.
Even if she had the power to hold the blades, she still has not mastered each sword. Every time she could give, she would be training with it every chance she got. Still, she had trouble using a few swords as they did not fit too well with her style.
“Yes.” Mr. Rogers had stated. “If everyone could use it, then we would have a bit of a problem.”
“You think so?”
“Think about it. If everyone could use it, the amount of bodies destroyed from trying to use the power would be detrimental to the person. If you didn’t have a substantial amount of magical energy, would you have attempted to even try to hold it?”
“No.” Snow snorted. She understood the concept of magic and what it could do if the foundation was not stable. “One wrong move, and I would die.”
“Exactly.”
Snow thought it over.
“Either way, we should look into this and figure out what else we could do with it. Let’s test some things out with the other Black Box series.” Mr. Rogers rubbed his hand together.
“I’m not so sure that would be a great idea…” Snow wasn’t sure if the Black Box series No. 00 would hold together the more they combined it together.
They both didn’t even know what it could do in the first place.
Mr. Rogers waved his hand. He was already at the next Black Box series, pulling them down one by one and bringing them over.
Snow could only sigh and shake her head. Hopefully, everything will be alright.

Content warning: There will be profanity and quite probably some gore, though the point of the story will not revovle around any gory scenes. I'm also including traumatising content as there will for sure be slavery and rape. The rape will be alluded to and not described, there are other places for that. I think this also explains the grimdark tag.
