《Blue mage》Chapter 4: Wow this sucks

In about 10 minutes after our conversation, Luke gathered everyone together to start making plans for a settlement of some kind. Well everyone but me, the second I heard village I was walking away. That kinda life just wasn’t for me now. I just wanted to hunt monsters and get stronger. I would come back in a couple of days, maybe drop off some monster parts that I didn’t eat.
Luke sent me a glace as I walked away before returning to talking about the village. I just kept on walking. I knew that he thought that I was a coward but really I just want to hunt.
After getting out of the line of sight I take off running at about 20 mph. It only takes me a couple of minutes to find my first prey, a pack of large wolves.
As I burst into the clearing, 10 lupine heads swing to look at me, they growl as they get up and start to encircle me. We stand in this tense pre-battle trance only for a couple of seconds. The wolves break it first with 4 coming at me at once. I smile as I claw the one on my left before the other 3 dogpiles me and start clawing and biting. My scales are getting raked off as I rip into the underbellies of the wolves. Just as one dies another takes its place. Before long I’m bleeding all over, missing 3 fingers, and 2 toes. I can only smile as I plunge my hand into the stomach of the last wolf. It lets out one last wine before expiring. Panting I sit down and check my notification as I grab a whole wolf and start taking bites.

My fingers and toes rapidly grow back and I can feel my scales harden as my muscles grow. It feels amazing. I was stronger than ever and now was the time to finally use my Breath of the Wyvern. I pick out a tree, square my feet, take a deep breath and feel the power fill my lungs. Instinct takes over and I let the breath out forcefully. A small beam of purple fire flows out my mouth. It scorches a small mark onto the bark. Even this weak beam drains me more than expected. I get a little dizzy spell before checking out the tree. There was a small hole burned straight through the tree. Not big just the size of the penny but it was a good start.
[Breath of the Wyvern(Epic) levels up to level 2]
The other thing was how slow the skill gain was Steel fur. I was going to have to kill another 90 of these grey wolfs just to get one new skill. Speaking of wolfs I had eaten two of them now and I have no idea where it when. Then I noticed that I was naked and covered in blood and viscera. I just didn’t care but I probably needed at least pants if I wanted to get into the village in a couple of days.
I attempted to skin a wolf and make a waistcloth, it took me five attempts to get it right. Then I tried the size-changing and much to my delight my waistcloth changed with me. I took my time eating the meat of the skinned wolves before taking off again.
I found my next pack of wolves within minutes. Rather than just jumping in I charged up a Breath of the Wyvern. It punctured a small hole in one of the legs of the biggest one. Then I jumped in and started tearing things apart. A quick look shows that there are 13 wolves this time. I quickly plunged my hand in the nearest wolf, twisting my hand around for maxim damage. A nearby wolf lunges at me, I use my arm to block. Its jaw shuts, only for its teeth to barely sink in. I rip my hand out of the previous wolf and cold-cocked the one biting me. The fight devolved from there with me knocking out or killing each of the wolves in a hit or two. I didn’t even lose a finger this time.

The fight only lasted about 1 minute before all of the wolves were knocked out or dead. I rolled my shoulders, grabbed a wolf, and sat down to eat. Before I could even get a bite in I hear a scream east of me. Sighing, I stand up and rush towards the sound. It takes me about 30 seconds to reach the area where 2 kids, one boy one girl, have climbed up a tree while two adults, who are most likely their parents, fight off 3 of the wolves I’ve been hunting. I take a second to wonder if I should get involved before my conscience kicks into gear. I charge into the clearing and just pick up one of the wolves and chuck it at a tree. The other 2 now seeing me, runoff growling. The parents are still holding their weapons, just now at me. The kids at quaking even more now. Do I really look that much like a monster? I look down and realize that I’m 13 feet tall, have a mouth full of sharp teeth, and I’m covered in scales. Ya, not the best first impression.
“Before you attack me, I would like to say that I am in fact not a monster but a human. No matter how I seem.” I say as gentlemanly as possible. I even do a quick bow.
The adults ease up and sink to the ground and the kids, seeing this happen, climb down from the tree. “Thanks for the help, we need it.” the man says while spread out on the grass. “You’re not from our group are you?.”
“Did your group have a dude named luke claiming to be a hero in it?”
“A hero? No, I guess you’re not in ours.” The man looks nervous, shifting from foot to foot, before saying. “If it’s not a bother can you help us get back to our group, we know the way back but help with the monster would be nice.”
“Sure, won’t be a problem,” I say figuring that having someone friendly introduce me there would be helpful.
I grab the wolf for a snack and we head out. Surprisingly we didn’t find any more wolves. Shame, after eating the wolf I had grabbed I was still peckish. What I didn’t notice was the way the family looked at me when I started to eat the wolf raw. The parents showed disgust and fear while the children show not a small amount of awe. To them, I was the peak of this new world. Something that eats what went bump in the night.
It only took an hour to get to their group. They had built a small waist-high wall. I pause mentally, then look at the family I was following and then look back at the wall. That wall was probably 6 feet tall. It hadn’t hit me just how tall I was until then.
The second that I came into view I could hear shouts and footsteps getting closer. Soon the entire group was surrounding me. They were all shaking in fear, one brave woman ran forward to stab me with a make-shift spear. I thought the family I saved would step in so I didn’t do anything. They didn’t step in though and the woman slammed the spear into my leg or would have if the spear didn’t snap. *CRACK* Everyone just stood in silence as they processed what was most likely their most powerful warrior failing to even leave a mark. Then one person drops their weapon and ran. This awakened the crowd and most did the same.
At this point, I realized that the family was not going to step in so I turned around and left with the remaining warriors just watching me. One frightened mage cast a bolt of ice at my back, which shattered on impact. Still not turning around I walk back into the forest and bolted. While I could have fought back easily I enforced one rule into my mind, don’t kill humans.

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes

Leveling Up Is Better Than Reality
If you've ever been called a slacker, you know, it's not that you're lazy, it's just that you're not interested. Your values don't allow you to work hard as you wish to live in a heaven-like world where you don't have to do anything. As Gandhi said, ""Be the change you wish to see in the world...'' Wise words indeed. This story's about lazy- I mean an idealist hero named Zellin living in an RPG-like world. I'm going to deem this work as PG-13, but you never know...
