《Am I the Evildoer?》Chapter 38 - Why Bird-Brain is an Insult

Earlier in the day, an overwhelming killing intent awakened the peacefully cultivating Qin patriarch, which surprised him.
Most people in this country did not dare mention his name, let alone display their intentions to murder him. His still face parted as what seemed like a smile formed on his lips, "Interesting," he said.
He guided his divine sense to follow the force, but to his surprise, his divine sense was repelled at about five hundred li from the source by a foreign aura. There was no one in this country with such an aura, causing him to frown.
A foreigner? He thought. Or a powerhouse I don't know of?
Regardless, he knew who wanted to kill him, and if a powerhouse was with her, it would explain how she faked her death.
"Most people don't dare hate me, yet you want to kill me." He said as if praising her for her gall.
This was something she definitely did not get from her wretch of a mother.
He smiled: "She truly is my daughter."
He began calculating, and mysterious runes appeared in front of him, mystifying and dazzling.
His face turned solemn as he watched the runes unfold, turning to directions he had not anticipated. A look of confusion appeared on his face, causing him to question: "The Lei Clan?"
From what he derived, Qin Yao was incapable of harming one of the major factions of the Qinxia Kingdom. He did not understand how or why the Lei Clan would be affected by her. Regardless of how he derived, he could not come to a conclusion. It was as if the being he was trying to investigate was protected by a barrier he could not penetrate. He knit his brows in confusion and thought of the powerhouse with her, but if he was this powerful, he would not steal others' descendants.
Seeing that he could not come to an answer, he let it be as although the Lei Clan and Qin Clan were not on bad terms, they weren't exactly on good terms either.
Nevertheless, it was about time for him to interfere.
"Zhong Guang," he called out.
"Patriarch," replied a courteous voice.
This man was one of the elders of the Zhong Clan and the patriarch's most trusted aide. His cultivation base was unfathomable, and he was absolutely loyal to him, unlike many of the Qin Clan's elders who believed that he was too cold-hearted.
"Send three youngsters under the age of fifty to the Misty Mountains to benefit from the fortune. As for who? You choose."
"Right away, patriarch."
The sun slowly peeked from the horizon, seemingly unnoticed by the many beasts, as the quiet lasted much longer than it should have.
Under this silent lull, Xue Yueliang opened her eyes, watching the sunrise as a faint smile appeared on her face. Getting up and patting the dirt off her clothes, she started her journey, moving silently forward. For the first time since her reincarnation, she felt at home.
A faint idea began to form in her head, but she would not yet be able to fully benefit from it. She walked through the forest, much faster than the average mortal, but it was nothing much to a cultivator. Her path never once changed, and any obstacles in front of her were cut down. The sharpness of the cuts only increased as she moved on, clearly marking her improvement. A new palpable aura formed around her as she walked through her path, and although her appearance did not change, she seemed like a different person.

If her from before was two separate lives trying to reconcile, the current her had made peace with something that could not be experienced by a human.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." Yao Ming laughed, marking the first thing he said all day.
"Haha, I never slept in the first place." Xue Yueliang laughed. "I had all night to think about what you said yesterday. Since I'm the same person from my past life, what's the use of doing things differently. Being me is what got me here in the first place."
"That's quite an interpretation," he teased, "But it's all useless if you can't master the other techniques."
The other two techniques she could currently try to learn are the Invincible Sword Slash and the Invincible Sword Swirl. In her opinion, they were not as great as the technique she wielded, but there was no such thing as knowing too many techniques.
"It's a pity I didn't get any of their blood." She thought aloud, remembering Sun Wei and company.
"Well, focus on what you can do now." He sighed, bringing her attention back to the situation at hand.
"It's just a slash." She said, twitching her lips.
Xue Yueliang stopped moving forward, lifting her sword until the hilt was about the same level as her shoulders. Then, using her full strength, she slashed down. Although her sword had not actually struck anything, the sword Qi emanated caused crevices to form on the ground. This causes her thought to wander elsewhere instantly.
"You know you have Hei Yu eat all the corpses now." Yao Ming said, guessing her thoughts.
"You're right," she agreed, "I don't need to dig graves or hide bodies anymore."
Unexpectedly she sighed at those words. Perhaps, the reality of being in a different world was beginning to sit in.
"How was it?" She smiled.
"I'm just surprised it took you so long to learn such a simple technique," he replied.
"Saying you did good isn't that hard." Xue Yueliang grumbled as she stepped over the crack on the ground, continuing her way forward.
"You already know if you did a good job or not, you do not need me to remind you." Yao Ming smiled, "But there's still one more."
Xue Yueliang couldn't help but frown, "How is that move even supposed to be executed? Am I supposed to spin before attacking someone? Why would I show my back?"
Black lines formed on Yao Ming's forehead, "Why don't you rewatch the inheritance technique?" He asked.
Sighing, Xue Yueliang sat down and closed her eyes, sinking deeply into her soul, reviewing her inheritance. A shadowy being lifted his sword, standing in a proper sword stance, with his sword aimed forward, its hilt more toward his left hip and right foot in front of the other. The move was unlike what she had anticipated, as the attack was less controlled by the sword and more so his own body. His left leg stayed rooted in its spot as his entire body spun around, and the sword followed, causing a beautiful ring of sword Qi to spread around.
It was not how she remembered it but looking at it, she was faintly reminded of dancers from her previous life. Both moves were beautiful and were meant to be breathtaking. Of course, only one was meant to literally.

Opening her eyes, she instantly felt her master's judgemental stare and said sheepishly, "I'll practice."
She got up and tried executing on the first try, but she lost her balance, falling flat onto the ground.
Feeling Yao Ming still silently staring at her, her embarrassment increased, "It's my first time trying a proper technique."
In her opinion, the other two relied on movements she made daily. However, she did not need to dance before, and silent judgement wasn't helpful either.
"I didn't say anything," Yao Ming replied. "How about you find your centre of gravity first?"
"Right."
Sheathing her sword, she started training, and as she spun around, she felt dizzy.
"Slow down," Yao Ming reminded, "You're not trying to become a tornado."
"With all this swirling, I thought I was." She replied, opting to stand on one leg and practice staying in this posture.
"How can you not do this?" He questioned. He did not understand how balancing was posing the most problem to her.
"If I knew, I'd fix it," Xue Yueliang sighed, "Sure, this one was medium instead of hard?"
"I know my own techniques." Yao Ming replied disdainfully.
"Oh well, people are good at different things." She answered, not in the least disheartened.
Xue Yueliang reasoned if she could separate the technique into various parts and master them individually, then adding them together, in the end, wouldn't be too hard. Besides, what took precedence right now was marking her way forward to the western part of the forest. It would be much too late if Sun Wei and others made their way there before her. It would not matter how much stronger or more skilled she became if the people she wished to compete against had already taken and separated their loot.
She gently closed her eyes, kept her posture and focussed on how the Qi in her body moved. It was always best to familiarise yourself with a weapon before using it, and if she did the same with her Qi, she should be able to better use it. Although her focus was admirable, standing silently in the middle of an open ground made one an easy prey for flying creatures. Due to her good luck, the first month went unhindered, but if one kept testing their luck, it was bound to fail them.
"Screech!" A giant bird glided down toward where Xue Yueliang stood, its talons sharp as it tried grabbing onto her.
Xue Yueliang quickly dodged to the side without needing to open her eyes and then looked at it dissatisfiedly.
"There's no need to be so loud!" She complained.
She was about to come to an understanding, but just as she felt a bottleneck pass by, this loud bird had bothered her in the middle of it, interrupting her breakthrough. However, before her frustrations could fester, she noticed this generic-looking bird that she couldn't name was quite unusual.
Ignoring its cultivation which was already exceptional at the fourth level of the Foundation Establishment Realm, it had wings that extended from average flesh into fiery flames. Although she had heard of this phenomenon before, it was different from witnessing it in person, so she couldn't help but exclaim.
"Could it be related to the legendary phoenix?" She asked.
"A petty creature such as this?" Her master harrumphed, "Perhaps they share one-millionth of a blood connection or even less, but it's just a mindless beast. It cannot compare to a phoenix."
As if noticing Yao Ming mocking it, the flaming bird attacked Yao Ming, but its attack passed right through him. This enraged it further, and it tried to attack him again, leading to the same result as the last time. Even after the second try, the beast did not learn its lesson and kept trying to fight Yao Ming.
This sight caused Xue Yueliang to laugh.
It really is just a stupid beast.
She had overestimated it by comparing it to a phoenix.
"Well, will you just stay standing there and allow it to disrespect me?" Yao Ming asked, frustrated by its stupidity.
"Sorry, master." She replied, mounting her sword.
She formed three mini fiery orbs in her hand and launched them toward the beast. The orbs landed on the beast's left-wing, and the place where it landed exploded, causing the bird's attention to focus on her.
"You know, watching you, I understand why bird-brain is an insult," she said sweetly.
The bird screeched angrily, as it did not need to understand what she was saying to understand it was being insulted. It charged toward her, opening its mouth wide, seemingly trying to swallow her whole. Xue Yueliang laughed and dodged out of the way, trying to frustrate it into using its actual power.
"Why would you get into an aerial flight with a flying beast?" Yao Ming asked.
"Who else am I supposed to fight midair?" Xue Yueliang replied curiously.
Fighting in midair was not in her best interest because she would be unable to use her weapon, but she would not let that stop her. If she did not practise this beforehand and was forced into such a situation against her will, she would find it hard to cope. So what was better than doing this earlier on her own terms? If this situation was too much, she could decide to land, and if she learnt one thing from her previous life, it was best to always have another trump card.
Also, new experiences are fun. She smiled.
"Screech!" The flames on the flaming bird's wings expanded, covering its flesh as it rushed to attack her. Before the bird even reached her, she could feel the billowing flame it released and the audible crackling sounds.
A wide smile appeared on her face as she said: "Well, that's more like it."
The Berserk Dragon Flame exploded out of her body and burned around her wildly, truly living up to its name.

Death By Protagonist
Donavan has made his living by wading through hundreds of stories in search of the quality few he and his firm believe to be worth publishing. After a strange twist of fate, he gets trapped inside the fantasy book of a particularly campy and amateur author. There he will have to navigate a world built on wish fulfillment, power fantasies, and fanservice in order to fix the story from the inside out if he ever wishes to leave. But can he bring himself to play the many roles necessary to manipulate and guide the characters to a satisfying conclusion? Authors Note: Death By Protagonist is meant to be simultaneously a satire of, and love letter to the isekai/portal fantasy genre. It both makes fun of and embraces many tropes of the genre such as harems, explicit sexual content, OP protagonists, and other things many people might think of as "trashy." If that doesn't sound like your thing, you've been warned, but I hope you'll give it a shot anyway. Update Schedule: Plan is to at least put out one new chapter every week, hopefully two.
