《An Unusual Town》Chapter 10 - Friends are Noisy

Friends are Noisy
I sat in my office filling out the days paper work. It was night time now and I needed to have it all done by midnight. The door opened reviling a darkly clothed figure that walk/floated its way to in front of my desk. "Good evening Kaz."
"Good evening 'Resident'. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"Oh, nothing in particular. Here for you." A shadowed hand held out an ice cream cone with Vanilla ice cream. "The present you asked for."
"Hahaha. Are you serious? Thanks. I was just thinking that I needed something to eat." I took the ice cream.
"I have heard some interesting things tonight about you."
"Ho, and what did you hear?"
"I heard that you have let humans into the town, for one thing. While that is the least interesting thing I've heard tonight lets start there." I could feel some disapproval from it.
"Sigh.. Not you too. The humans are from Redroad. As they have helped us a great number of times it is only right that we help them too. Also we are the cause of this 'Zombie' Apocalypse, as they call it."
"I see that you still do not know what Zombies are. You can read about them in the library if you would like. I do believe that there are quite a few books on them in the fiction section."
"You know about them as well?"
"Of course. I believe that it is only you who does not know of them." I frowned a little causing the "Resident" to laugh. "Well don't let it get to you. Anyway I can understand why you let them in now. Would you like any help convincing the rest of the citizens here about them?"
"No that is alright. I've already taken care of it."
"Oh... Is that so? How disappointing. Did the Council take it well?"
"Not very well but that is to be expected."

"Hmmm. Anyway lets move on to a more interesting subject." It felt like a smirk appeared on it's face. "I also heard that you have a new person living with you. From what I understand it is a person from Redroad."
"Well I can say that your information is both right and wrong. I do in fact have a new person living with me but they are not from Redroad. Also you should know better than to make fun of me." I glared at the "Resident", but that only made his smile bigger.
"I am sorry. How about you tell me all about this new person that has latched itself to you."
"Sigh, You really.... Never mind. Lets see. I think the first thing you should know is that she is a wood elf. So stay away from her. You might kill her with your presents."
The "Resident's" smile vanished. "Yes this is true, but she will not be safe with you. If anything you are more dangerous to her than me."
"I know. I tried to convince her to stay with the other elves in town but she wouldn't."
"That is no surprise. The wood elves are not well liked by the other elves. If she did go to stay with them there is no grantee that she would be safe."
"Is that so. I thought that all elves were on good terms. Why are the wood elves so disliked by the others?"
"That is because they are accepted by the forest. While the others are just tolerated. The wood elves are very similar to tree spirits.... I see that is why she wished to stay with you. Maybe it is safer for her to be with you after all."
I frowned. "No one is safe with me. You should know this better than anyone else. For her who is drawn to the smell and feel of the woods I am not the best person to be with. Especially since she is a child."

"I can see where you are coming from but I do believe that it is the best place in town for her. Since she is still a child she needs to be away from the hatred of the other elves and needs a place that is safe for her to come back to. She is accepted by the forest so she should be ok in your house. It is not like you feel the urge to kill her, is it?"
"No..." I frowned, "I do not. That is why I am confused and let her stay in the house. If I had I never would have let her stay."
"Then there should be no problem. Now on to something else. I saw a Kraken in the pond by the park. Why is that?"
"Ah, that is a new citizen in town. The Kraken family came here from the Chaos dimension and are here to stay until they get tired of it."
"Is that so. How did they get here?"
"Ali Baba and Baba Yoga had a little mishap with the portal and caused it. They haven't caused to many problems. However I need to move the miniature boat races to the public pool. It seems that the Baby Kraken has taken to practicing on the model boats."
"Hahahaha, is that so? Oh, it seems to like ice cream as well. It took my share when I bought it."
"Really? And you just let it go?"
"I thought it was cute."
"I see, so you do have a week spot for cute things." I smiled.
"....." the "Resident" shifted a little, "Yes. Right, I came here to tell you that I will no longer be terrorizing the town at night. As the full moon is tomorrow I thought it was a good time to stop. Also is there anyway that we can provide space for more people to live in town?"
"I don't see a problem with that. Are there any places in particular that you wish to place people?"
"No, not yet. However I should know by tomorrow night."
"I see. Than we can talk about that tomorrow. Oh, right before I forget. Akuji wishes to speak to you. He said that it is regarding what you two discussed earlier."
"Is that so then I must go. Good night Kaz. I will see you tomorrow."
"Good night,"
The "Resident" left the room quietly and closed the door. [That's right the full moon. I almost forgot. ] I through the napkin from the ice cream into the trash. This was the last night before the full moon. I sighed. It was not like this didn't happen every month. It was just so tiring to add it on to every thing else that needed to be done. Especially this week. Only four days had passed since the dead left the graveyard and already so much had happened.
I looked at the clock on the wall. Only four minutes tell midnight. Finishing off the rest of the papers I decided to call it a night and head home.

Warhammer 40,000: Mind over Matter
Set in the Warhammer 40k universe, but accessible to those unfamiliar with the setting. The Imperium of Man has been fighting the Long War for ten thousand years. It is a war fought simultaneously across thousands of stars and against innumerable enemies. On smoke-filled battlefields and in the cold emptiness of the void the military might of the Imperium stands strong in the face of horrifying foes. It is not a war fought to conquer new lands, or to seize the wealth of enemy nations. It is a war fought to hold what they have, or to regain what they have already lost. The world of Nova Iberia is far from that war and supports the Imperium by sending her finest sons to foreign stars to fight and die as elite commandos in the Imperial Guard. A chance discovery on the corpse of one of these commandos has cast doubts around the world's loyalty, and has drawn the attention of the Imperial Inquisition. The seekers of the Alien, the Heretic and the Daemon have descended upon this peaceful world, and they will not leave it intact. Primaris Psyker Amelia Lafayette was a ward of the state, now bound as an acolyte to the Inquisition in recognition of her telepathic gifts. Inexperienced, and browbeaten by her training, she must adapt to her new circumstances or fall. If she can navigate the tangled webs of heresy, and survive life in the Inquisition, then she may find the opportunity to prove herself worthy of greater authority.
