《An Unusual Town》Chapter 21: Confirming Theory

Confirming Theory
The door slammed open making me jump slightly. Terry walked in with a huge smile on his face as he pulled a chair over to in front of my desk. He looked way to happy for my liking. I frowned as he sat down. I swear he drug the chair with the intentions of leaving scrape marks on the floor.
"Kaz! I'm so glad your back." His general happiness pissed me off.
"Really I thought you would have liked to work under the 'Resident' more since I am a 'crazy' person."
Terry froze, "Now Kaz why would you think that?" He made a confused face.
"Oh no reason really. Its just that Juliana had heard that some 'crazy dude' was running a town full of supernatural creatures, but I guess that it was about someone else." Terry had a bit of a stained smile.
"Must be...."
".... Anyway when I was out I went to see your Master to give me some advice about the Zombie problem you caused. I heard some interesting things like how the Court of Life is looking into this," Terry visibly paled but still held onto his smile. [ Ah, this is making me feel so much better. ] "Not only that but it seems that she didn't know anything in Necromancy that could cause immortality. So I had to go see my old pal Nicolas Flamel on the subject of Alchemy, and guess what I found out." I smiled at Terry.
"What did you find out?" Terry was shifting uneasily in his seat.
"There is this thing called the Elixir of Life. One of the many recipes gives off this wonderful sulfur smell. The same smell that was found at the graves." I watched Terry squirm and fidget under my gaze. "Well that is what I think made the Zombies immortal. It also turns out that it is highly toxic to the body. Which would show why you would like to test it on the undead first. But of course you wouldn't know anything about that."

"O-Of course not."
"Well if it was used it seems to have mutated and caused it to become something like a virus. Really this is such an annoying problem. Terry go capture a Zombie and take it to the Undertaker to be examined. I'm sure we will find out something interesting. Be happy I am letting go through with you original research." Terry got up and was about to leave. "Oh and it seems the Zombies can be frozen. This should make it easier to capture. Good luck."
"Yes Master Kaz." Terry bowed and left. [ Ah, I feel so much better now. ] I finished off the last piece of paper while smiling. [ Well then... ] I got up and walked down to Lisa.
"Lisa, I'll be out visiting the Hidden City if you need me."
"Does this have anything to do with the meeting tomorrow?"
"... No please keep that the same. I will be visiting someone else today."
"Understood. I already have people filling in the hole outside. It should be done before midnight."
"Is that so? Good." With that I walked outside to see the progress. The hole was being filled in by about fifteen Gargoyles. [ Hmmm, nice choice. ] I walked to the edge of the hole as the Gargoyles stopped to see what I was doing. "Keep up the good work." I said with a smile as I jumped down.
The hole wasn't to deep if you used the buildings just right to brake the fall. I landed on path that looked like a mountain road only underground. It was dark only light by a couple of lights here and there. I looked off the side of the path further down into the black abyss. Seeing if there was anything new since I have been here, but it was still the same. I shook my head and continued down the path. It didn't take long to reach what I was looking fore.
It was a small house carved into the wall. The only thing that really indicated that it was a house and not just a part of the rock wall was the door with the name Einar carved at the top. I smiled and knocked.

"Coming...." The stone door slowly slid open to revel a dusky skinned Elf, golden eyes, and purple black hair. "Kaz?"
"Why hello there Corey. How are things?"
Corey blinked then moved out of the way. "Please come in. Everything is fine here. Nothing has changed." We walked into the living room that was sparsely decorated with only a couple of chairs and a table.
"Is that so? Well that's good to hear. It has been a while since I came down here so I thought I would visit. I also have a task that I would like completed."
"Of course. If it is something you wish done then I will complete it." Corey's face was an expressionless mask.
I smiled. "I would like you to go to this new Human Sanctuary and find out what you can about it. If there is anything interesting or that catches your eye please look further into it. You are aloud to have interaction with the Humans but please do so in disguise. Go see Akuji for a charm that you can use. There is no set time period for this mission. It is completely up to your own judgement."
"Understood."
"One more thing are there any problems with the Hidden City?"
Corey was quite for a moment. "There is a hole to the outside world." I smiled at that response.
"That should be taken care of by tonight." He nodded. "Well that is all. If you hit any problems or do stumble across anything interesting then tell me. Other than that tell me what you think of the Sanctuary after 24 hours there." With that I stood up.
"Understood. I will follow your orders without fail."
"Thank you Corey. I look forward to your report." I walked out and back to towards the hole. It was about halfway patched up now. Jumping back through I landed on the street only to see the sun going down. Lisa was standing at the hole waiting.
"Kaz, the 'Resident' is in your office. It wishes to talk to you."
"I would imagine so. Thank you Lisa."
"I will be calling it a day."
"Very well." With that Lisa left to go home. [ Sigh, one more thing to be done. ]

Author here, just wanted to say that if the synopsis did not sound as exciting as I had hoped it would be, try reading the first 10 chapters? I promise it won't be terrible! :) Whoops, forgot to mention, prologues don't count as chapters! If you've read this far, I might as well tell you what I was inspired by! However, this does NOT mean my story will be similiar in any way to the novels/stories/books listed below. By 'inspiration,' I refer to mainly how the characterizations plot devices, dialogue, conflict introduction/resolution, and thought processes are used and introduced in those works of literature. But in a way, you can interpret this list as, "if the author read and was inspired by these novels, then it's possible that we share similiar tastes, so I'll give this story a try." :) -Those Who Aspired to Become Gods: A darker fairy tale novel (My all-time fantasy favorite despite it being unfinished) -Forgotten Conqueror (Second all-time fantasy favorite) -Brandon Sanderson's The Reckoning trilogy (Third all-time fantasy favorite) -Kel Kade's 'King's Dark Tidings' -Brent Week's Night Angel saga -Red Rising trilogy -Infinite Realm: Monsters & Legends -Reborn: Apocalypse -Reborn: Evolving From Nothing -48 Hours a Day -The New World -Creep -Arrogant Young Master Template A Variation 4 -Can't Cure Deceit -Super Minion -Unparalleled -Unbound -Wake of the Ravager -Overgeared -Solo Leveling -The Tutorial Is Too Hard [email protected] -God of Money -A Snake's Life -The Snake Report -The Tower of God -UnOrdinary -Release that Witch!
