Anyways that is all from me, and I hope you enjoy this chapter.
Chapter 11: What Lies in the Darkness
Even with my enhanced senses and parameters, I threaded carefully.
I don’t know what I’m dealing with and it’s my first fight ever since I was transported to this fantasy world.
‘What shall I do, Cliona?’ I asked my spirit partner who performed the partial contract while I was defenseless and asleep. Dammit.
‘How about spicing things up with a warning spell?’ She suggested, as if it was the easiest thing in the world.
I frowned. ‘And how can I do such a feat?’
‘Hello? I’m a spirit remember? Use me to cast magic instead.’
Since I didn’t know what type of nonsense she was talking about, I shoved the thought of using magic for now.
In front, the archer readied her bow again, and she pulled out her bowstring with an arrow generating some light energy. The moving footsteps on my side also told me that the other two were nimbly circling around me.
“What now?” I say dumbfounded while waiting for the shadows to attack me.
In the next instant, the arrow covered in light was unleashed.
“Stride!”
Some sort of energy generated around the arrow’s path. A magic circle. Her arrow that passed through that circle multiplied, spreading all over the area.
Multiple arrows of light came raining down!
‘Reimuz!’
With Cliona’s help, it was simple to dodge, but the attack was cast only to diverse me to the side. As I rolled on my right side, a spearhead came lunging at me!
“What the…”
But the attack was slow, I easily deflected it with Cliona’s edge.
The spearman quickly dashed forward after me, swinging his spear upward and overhead, but with such a wide attack, it was more than easy to parry for me.
“Oi, are you trying to kill me?!” I angrily shouted at the guy.
However their relentless assault didn’t halt for a moment.
I sensed the other appearing on my backside, and he swoop a sharp piece of metal, a sword, towards my head. My crying instincts told me to dodge, and so I did.
Dammit!
As I lowered my head in attempt to keep my head intact, another arrow was released towards me yet again. All the while, the spearman launched his spear to pierce my sword arm.
It was a three pronged attack bullshit!
But, what I couldn’t see, this sword spirit can.
“Haaap!”
I stomped on the ground, forcing my body to dodge sideways and avoid the spear, while I positioned Cliona at the back of my head.
Our swords clashed instantly, but Cliona’s durability prevented me from staggering. The spearman that missed his point was used as a human shield for the arrow!
“Aaaaagh!!”
The spearman grimaced in pain, dropping his weapon on the ground as the arrow went through his left arm.

Wait, that voice… It’s a girl?
“Emily!!”
The archer shouted while the swordsman behind me leaped further away in a distance.
That voice again... It’s that of a girl…
Don’t tell me... Am I fighting with a group of girlies here?
I grabbed the spearman by her waist and pulled her towards me.
This soft sensation.... It’s a girl indeed.
While I could somehow see clearly in the dark, I couldn’t clearly see their faces. Is this perhaps the effects of a spell?
“Down with your weapons ladies, unless you want your friend getting hurt here!” I shouted threatening words as I grazed Cliona’s edge up at the spearman’s neck, keeping her in place.
Damn, damn, damn, damn…
This totally makes me look like the bad guy here.
“Do it! Don’t worry about me!”
As she screamed her cries, the archer readied her bow at me once again.
I noticed her lips moving, as if she was casting a spell.
On my left, the swordsman stood carefully, waiting for a moment to strike. She silently glared at me from a distance, readying an attack using her magnificent sword with both hands.
“Stride!”
A flash of light followed by a rain of multiple arrows covered in light—the same useless attack earlier was unleashed.
“Man, you never learn,” I sighed while shaking my head.
“Kyaa! Put me down!!”
I carried the girl like a pig on my shoulder as I ran away to escape the area of attack.
The swordsman didn’t even bother to intercept me, weird...
Suddenly, the arrows followed suit to my direction as if they were homing missiles.
“Are you kidding me!” I said, shooting a quick glance behind.
“Hehe… That’s what you get for being careless!” The archer grinned as she watched me struggle.
I swiftly ran across the hall, but the arrows curved and followed suit.
“Molester! Pervert! Let go!”
The girl on my shoulder was furiously fighting back to get off me.
However, with my increased strength, my grip on her waist was tight.
“Shut up if you don’t want to become a meat shield!”
“No! Put me down!”
“Oh my God, you’re annoying!”
I pinched and fondled her plump butt while I ran across the area.
“Haaaaaa?!”
The girl started sobbing and crying after getting her butt violated. Then she angrily pummeled my back with punches that didn’t do her any good other than to annoy me.
“One more! Stride!”
While I was busy calming this girl down, the archer unleashed yet another arrow covered in light. I knocked the intercepting arrows with Cliona, one by one, but the newly concentrated arrow entered my blindside and graced me on my left cheek.
“Shit…” I hissed through gritted teeth.
I could feel my blood dripping down...
Enough playing around. If I wasn’t lucky enough, that arrow could have went straight through my head. Better yet, it could have went inside this girl’s butt.

“Haaaaa!”
The swordsman proceeded to attack me while the archer readies her next move.
*Clang! Clang!*
She relentlessly swung her sword using her slender arms, but I easily parried her blows.
“It’s yet another girlie…” I criticized her, and the girl took it at face value.
My sudden words caused her calm expression to turn angry. “Don’t underestimate me!”
She chattered away in silence, as if mumbling a magic incantation, but her arms didn’t stop swinging. I felt something bad forming in her hands immediately.
“You small fry! Franz, let’s tear him apart!”
She advanced with a stab, followed by a kick, and spinning her body, she slashed her sword in a very large arc! Christ!
However, with my enhanced senses and speed, it was repelled. Although that last slash in particular almost made my sword arm numb. Cliona felt it too. It was as if her sword was infused by wind.
“Haaaaa!!”
Seeing her pride skill easily deflected turned her to blindly lunge at me.
Oh boy... She’s like a cat.
I gripped my sword calmly.
She leaped towards me, spinning forward, slashing me in two large arcs yet again!
*Swang!*
“Guaa!”
I calmly parried her blows and swung Cliona using all my strength. She clashed my blade, but the impact was too much for her slender arms to handle, blowing her away in a distance.
*Boom!*
“I can’t believe myself sometimes…”
‘Impressed with my overwhelming strength?’
I shrugged, a wry smile plastered on my face.
Cliona’s cockiness was echoing inside my head.
Slowly she was starting to sound like Celes too.
After wriggling for a few moments, the swordsman didn’t show any further movements.
I glanced back at the archer afterwards and saw her mouth hanged open in shock. Seems like she wasn’t able to attack as both of these girlies were too close. Even if she did, the sound of her bowstring alone was enough to give her away.
“You’re not half bad,” clearly bluffing, she forced a grin on her face.
I’d had enough of this farce. You’re next!
“Umm, I’m coming okay?” I said, using the gentlest tone I could muster.
She snapped herself back up and fired me arrow by arrow aiming at my face.
But after activating my “Wind Cutter”, her arrows didn’t even reached me, and with her distractions gone, it was a piece of cake to avoid her attacks. All the while, I’m moving closer and closer with a wicked smile.
“It’s no use…”
“I’m glad you understand…”
Having lost her confidence, she drooped down on the ground and sat there.
What a miserable sight. At least show your remarkable spirit earlier.
Oh well, no matter how hard you try, the results were still gonna be the same.
Having reached her point, I leveled my sword up in the air.
“Nooo…”
Looking at this girl cower in fear somewhat made me feel guilty inside.
I clearly looked like the villain here...
“Pervert! Let me go!”
The pig on my shoulder was fighting back from my grip again.
I thought for sure she gave up a while ago.
“Umm, I don’t really want to hurt you…”
“Liar! You molested me!”
“…Alright, I’ll put you down in a second.”
Seeing no reason to fight any longer, I released my tight grip from Cliona’s and stabbed her on the fancy floor.
‘Ahhh~ Discarding me after finding yourself a new woman, how cruel of you,’
‘Can you like be quiet for a second?’
I offered a helping hand to the girl in front of me while showing my most adorable smile. I just trashed my clients after all. If this is a job interview, I would no doubt be denied.
“Ehhh?”
She was hesitant, but she still took my hand embarrassingly, so I gently pulled her up from the ground.
“Are you fine?”
“Yes…”
She blushed furiously and looked down.
Okay, that reaction was disturbing.
I set the girl on my shoulder down and tore a piece of cloth from my shirt inside to wipe the blood off her arm clean.
…Well, the arrow is still there though.
“Umm, does anybody know healing magic?”
“...……”
“...……”
I asked while gently wiping her arm dry.
However none of them answered.
“It hurts!”
She grimaced in pain after I somewhat touched a sensitive spot.
“Shh… I’ll pull it out okay?”
“Alright…”
She timidly nodded her head. After she finally stop resisting, I pulled the arrow in a blink. She made a startled sound, not a real word, but something punctuated with an audible exclamation point.
“Did it hurt?”
“Not much…”
“Good,” I breathed a sigh of relief.
Light suddenly occupied the surrounding area, blinding me for a few seconds.
“Ahh,” I covered my eyes instinctively.
When the light faded, the darkness surrounding the area has disappeared. Arrows all over the place, a huge crevice on the wall, and a collapse girl on the ground—it was a mess.
“Magnificent! I’m impressed! You surpassed my expectations!”
A surprisingly well built man approached me.
From his appearance and posture, there was no doubt he was in his mid forties. What was funny, just like the old man, his head doesn’t seem to have a strand of hair left, though his deep and low voice was somewhat intimidating.
“Pffft,” I couldn’t help but snicker.
“You just thought I’m bald didn’t you?”
“Of course not... Umm, do you know healing magic? These girls are kind of hurt…”
I glanced at the both of them, but they quickly averted their gazes from mine. Ah, it was to be expected that they hate me.
“Alright, let’s take care of my daughters first before we jump into business.”
“I agree,” I just nodded my head and shrugged my shoulders to answer his somewhat carefree attitude.
Did I just get myself into something big?
I’m here for the money, that’s all.
Wait…
“Daughters?!!!”

A Primeval Future
Follow the story of a modern caveman as he learns to survive, thrive, and shape his nascent civilization in a world yet untouched by man. Expect a focus on the nitty-gritty of primitive living, especially early on. I plan for this to eventually progressing to the settlement management and politics stage as people gravitate towards the one guy who looks like he knows what he's doing, but this will likely take some time. Despite the occasional system elements, skilling and levels will not be a part of this story. No shortcuts. There will be violence and there will be sexuality but there will be no sexual violence. I hate reading that crap and I hate writing it even more. This is my first serious foray into writing. I plan to put out at least 1 chapter a week, more when I can. Constructive criticism is very much welcomed as are ideas and suggestions! Cover image credit: "Mesolithic camp site" by Wessex Archaeology is licensed with CC BY-NC 2.0.
