《Wait… Why is this a Skill? [Dropped]》Chapter 5

The day we enter the dungeon has come. I, Kayaka, and Hyoudo are preparing inside the room of an inn.
“Senpai. Do you really have to come with us?”
Hyoudo, not hiding his uneasiness, asked me a question.
“I have to go. Even if I'm weak, The knights will still drag me along. And I want to go with you. Maybe, just maybe I can get a skill in that dungeon. I have a feeling that it will be so.”
I gave a smile to Hyoudo to calm him down. Kayaka, who was beside me came closer and leaned her head on my shoulder.
“But, Kouta-nii. I can't live without you. If you die I'm coming with you.”
“I’m telling you I won't die. I won't leave my little sister behind right?”
After saying that, Kayaka stood up and went back to prepare before looking back in my direction.
“In life and in death…”
“We will always be together.”
Both of us put a smile on our face. This was what we used to say whenever we encounter a huge problem ever since our parents died. Hyoudo, who heard that phrase, stiffened in place.
‘That is not something you say when you have a problem!’, his face seems to say, but he is afraid to tsukomi because of the mood.
Kayaka and Hyoudo stacked up on potions and rations, while I prepared my equipment. Thankfully, the royals and knights had at least enough mind to give a useless person like me first class equipment because I am a hero. Mithril sword, Adamantite Shield, Mithril Vest, Damascus Steel Greaves, Gauntlets, and Helmet.
This type of equipment can cost about a fortune, and can also bankrupt a noble house. Also about nobles, some are trash, others are saints. But in this town, most nobles are trash, as seen by the public. 45% of this town are slums. The reason is because the nobles are lining up their pockets from the heavy tax with the premise of funds for the Demon Lord subjugation.
When we first entered this town, we saw children in back alleys with lifeless eyes. Some were already corpses. We tried to do something but with the nobles' greed, they made a lot of reasons such as funds for war potential, protection of the city, etc.
Many of us thought to report this to the king but seeing as how he shunned me, they thought otherwise. Looks like the king finally got his distrust from the students and teachers.
Speaking of which, the principal, Tani Tanura was also in our group. When she was alone, she was approached by delinquents. The story goes like this.
“Hey gurl! Wanna have some fun?”
“Right right! We can play with you all night long. Right aniki?”
“Yeah, and we don't take no for an answer.”
The result? Total annihilation. The group of delinquents were scattered across the ground with arms bending the other way and foam rising from their throat.
Now all of the knights were scared of her, and so are the students. Heck, the whole town is afraid of her. Even the nobles, but they still won't budge with their greed.

Back to the present.
After finishing our preperations, the three of us stood up and headed for the door. Outside was a few students going downstairs to sortie. When we went downstairs, we were greeted with the usual scene. Uncles getting drunk, the template of cute poster girl, and rumbles between adventurers. They paid us no mind as they were already used to us heroes.
“Good luck out there heroes!”
“Show those monsters who's boss!”
“Nyahahaha!”
A few adventurers who personally knew some heroes, encouraged them. I also spotted a cute nekomata girl and stared at her for a while before getting pinched by Kayaka.
“Muu…”
Kayaka pouted with her cheeks puffed. A warm feeling flowed through my heart as I witnessed such scene. Hyoudo, who was watching us two, was smiling wryly.
“Hurry up you two. We're going to be late.”
I immediately went back to my senses and nodded. Kayaka too, nodded in agreement.
“Shall we go?”
““Un!””
…
An hour later, our group arrived in front of the dungeon. It looks like a giant cave. The entrance can easily fit three 16-wheelers.
“Huge…”
A student muttered in a low voice. If anyone saw this, they would seriously say it was huge. The knight leader went up in front to say some words before setting off.
“Heroes! Since this is your first time in a dungeon, let me explain the basics! A dungeon has monsters that spawns infinitely when there is mana. And since a dungeon is a lump of mana concentrated on one place, strong monsters spawn more frequently near the core. A dungeon also has traps laid inside. This phenomenon has not yet been understood by our researchers so we can't give you any information about traps except for how to detect them. Some heroes here has [Trap Detection] right? They will be our trap-disarming unit. Now that we have covered the basics, allow me to sort the formation.”
After a few minutes, our formation was complete, with me at the middle, Kayaka at the back, and Hyoudo at the front. I thought they might send me to the front but if they did that, Tani-sensei might do something.
Now that we are ready to move, we marched inside the dungeon, before being stopped by the knight leader.
“Each of you take this. It is called a warp stone. It can teleport you instantly to the entrance of the dungeon.”
Each of us were given one and were told to keep it safe. If we lost it, it may mean our deaths. Some students with big pride were spouting nonsense like.
“A-rank? Hah! I'm a hero! And I can defeat it with one hand! Right boys?”
““““Ohh!””””
He made such a ridicuolous statement that if I weren't weak, I might have gone to reprimand him. Luckily, Sparta-sensei (Tani-sensei) reprimanded him first.
…
After that whole ordeal, the big pride bigmouth was crying with snot dripping down his face. I should never anger Sparta-sensei. Un un.
The knight leader who froze quickly regained his senses and led us inside the dungeon.

The first few floors only had goblins and slimes in them. Thus, it wasn't difficult for us. From the fifth floor, orcs and golems appeared. This floor is called the Entrance as it is where the first golems are spawned.
After a few more floors, we reached the tenth floor, the destination of our expedition. All of us moved as a group to not get seperated if we see the Chimera Golem. The knights said that it can run faster than wolf so it would be a bad idea to outrun it.
After a few hours of searching, we found it.
“It's sleeping right?”
Kayaka whispered. It must be true as it is laying down with it's eyes closed? Actually, scratch that, I can't even see any eyes. It's like a lump of statues forcefully connected together.
“If we want to attack it, now is the time.”
Hyoudo, who was quietly observing the golem, whispered in my ear. The knight leader then instructed his commands.
“The golem is still asleep. Heroes who have [Deploy Trap] skill place traps that activate based on weight, mostly explosions and water traps. Vanguards get ready. Rearguards, ready yourselves, attack on my mark.”
The knight leader gave precise instructions to attack the golem.
…
A few minutes later, the traps were set. It's a miracle that the golem didn't wake up. It must be a deep sleeper.
“Get ready. 3…2…1… Attack!!!”
Magic one after another crashed into the lump of stone. It was mostly explosion and water magic to easily destroy stone. The golem woke up and and roared.
“OOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUU”
The loud roar of the golem entered my ears. Causing all of us to stiffen in place.
“Don’t stop! Keep attacking!”
With the loud shout of the knight leader, the rearguards continued to launch magic after magic. The golem stood up in fury and charged in our direction.
*Clack*
A sound resounded as the floor seperated turning into a giant hole where the golem once stood.
“Now! Use water magic!”
The rearguards followed the instruction of the knight leader and bombarded the golem with water magic. The hole was filled to the brim with water and the golem was soaked with water making it hard to maneuver out of the hole.
“Vanguards your turn! Turn it into rubble!”
“OHHHHH!!”
With a loud cry, the vanguards ran towards the golem. Most of the vanguards carried blunt weapons to damage the hard surface of the golem.
*Don* *Don* *Don*
The sound of blunt objects hitting a hard object resounded within the cave. The golem, with limited mobility, used it's giant limbs to defend, but because of the water, the limbs were too heavy for it to move freely.
“This must be a newly created golem. It still has no control over its body. At most, the difficulty of this monster is B rank.”
The knight leader, with a sharp gaze murmured. I agreed with him for once, since it was totally correct. But something doesn't add up.
“Why is it here in the tenth floor? If it was newly created, should it be spawned on the lower floors?”
This question kept on going inside my head. And the answer to that, was answered a few seconds later.
“Fufufufu… What are you doing to my child? Oh heroes from another world?”
A voice as sweet as temptation sounded in the room. The golem suspended all movements, as well as the students. This voice, has a mixture of coldness and disdain.
“W-who are you!?”
The knight leader, who was stunned at this sudden development, shouted.
*Click* *Clack* *Click*
The sound of footsteps resounded in a dark part of the cave. We focused all of our attention to the sound of footsteps. A shadow appeared, it had the shape of a human. But when it came out, the truth dawned on us.
‘This isn't a human!’
Is what entered our minds. It had the head of a mantis, 4 arms of a human, and legs of an insect.
“Greetings heroes. My name is Veda, One of the 10 Generals of the Demon Lord and golem transmutator.”
This person--- no, demon, is a general of the Demon Lord. And from the pressure he is emitting, no one here is able to fight an equal battle with him. Even if all of us ganged up on him, it won't change a thing.
The only thing that goes through my head is to escape. I quickly ran to Kayaka to tell her to use the stone.
“Kayaka! Use the warp stone!”
“Kouta-nii!?”
After I said that, students and a teacher, one after another get their warp stones and used it. A dazzling light appeared and with that, vanished along with the user. I also tried to use the stone but…
“!? It's not working!?”
That's right. It won't work.
“Kouta-nii!”
Kayaka, who had already undergone the transfer shouted my name. Tears welled up in my eyes as I saw her vanish into thin air.
“…Sorry…”
Hyoudo and all other students, knights, and a teacher vanished, leaving me behind with the Demon General.
“Are are? Don't tell me… Were you abandoned?”
Shit! This is bad! I need to get out of here!
“Oh well, if I killed one hero, I might get praised by Demon Lord-sama.”
After the demon said that, I felt like someone dumped a bucket of ice on my body. My body froze in fear and refused to move.
“Sayonara, hero of another world.”
This is bad. This is bad. This is bad. This is bad. This is bad.
I'm gonna die! I'm gonna die!
I felt a pain through my chest like something went inside. It feels hot. So hot. I can't breathe. Kayaka. Sorry…

The Painter: A fantasy psych thriller and epic
*** June 21th Update ***- New chapters are being posted! I haven't figured out a schedule yet, but stay tuned!- Thank you to everyone who has read and reviewed, I'm happy to say The Painter is in the top 200 best-rated fictions. - Readers of The Painter have suggested reading through Chapter 6 before making a decision on this book.- The story takes place in the Lootverse, but you don't need a canonical understanding to appreciate the storyFinally, a warning or reader beware: This is not an action novel (despite the coming fight scene) but a slow-burn psychological thriller of sorts. For a time, the Painter's life was simple. He lived in the small town of Kinon (called Kinney by locals) with his wife, Kahriah and his son, Thesdon. The story begins with him alone and unable to travel more than a few hundred miles from his home. For 5 years he tried to chart his prison until one day a letter appears with a mysterious commission that will see him test his condition and his boundary. Set roughly 50 years before the impending end of days (from Loot canon), The Painter is a story about loss, grit, and exploration of a seemingly normal man in a world of magic and monsters. The Painter will follow the man on his adventure to restore his family, uncover his commissioners and discover the nature of his condition. Loot is the decentralized, global, community built fantasy world based on Dom Hoffman's art/tech experiment: Loot. Fun fact: The cover of our book is painted by the artist, who the MC is loosely based on and the same person painting the Banners (digitally) IRL for an art/worldbuilding project.
