I gave Charlie the day off for today as he deserves a break after what I put him through. As a result of my last case my car suffered a ghoul size dent in the bumper. I sent John a picture of my car and reminded him that he owes me a favor. Once I sent the text I heard my phone chime. I answered the call and placed it on speaker as I didn’t want to suffer from hearing loss.
“What the hell did you do!” hollered John.
“I killed the ghoul, and you owe me a favor.”
“What did you do, run it over?” he asked sarcastically.
“Yep.”
The phone went silent. I could hear the gears turning in his head and his frustration rising. I chuckled as the quiet continued.
“Are you still there?” I asked “or did my survival skills coerce you into silence.”
Quiet lingered in the air, almost if John couldn’t express what he was feeling. I’m guessing it was regret.
“Fine, I’ll pay for the damages,” he replied.
“You still owe me another favor though,” I teased, laughing loudly into the phone.
He hung up before I could say anything else.
