Chapter 3 The Man With The Strange Eye

Ferret had walked into what he could only see as an affair, Between that man and his sweet wife tiffany.

-It's not what it looks like i promise. Tiffany said in a stressed voice.

But Ferret was not having it.

-I thought getting married meant only us two. Ferret said while starring with a look that could kill right at Tiffany

-you're not listening please, Ferret. She said while stumbling over her words

-And who is this guy even? Ferret said, clearly angry.

The rodent turned his head towards Ferret, It instantly sent a shiver down Ferret's back. His left eye was solid ice. The man stood up and made his way towards Ferret that was frozen in fear. Every time the man took a step the floor where he had walked had frosted over as the man emitted a cold aura.

-Hello Ferret. The man bowed down to reach Ferret's height. He was about 2/4 taller than Ferret and he was a bit above average.

-Have we met? Ferret got out in a semi scared tone.

-you are scared? there is no need to be. The stranger said in a proud tone.

-I am just confused as to who you are?

-Ah, I see I am none other than the Wind. He exclaimed

-The Wind? Ferret asked, sounding confused.

-well i have many names, The Wind, The breeze, But my favorite is The Shiver.

-Well mister Shiver, why are you here? Ferret asked, now calmer than before.

-Don't refer to me as Mr please, i am a humble…...... traveler. He said thinking a bit in between words as if he was lying.

-Well then, What business do you have with my wife? Ferret asked, now slightly angry again.

-none really, I was waiting for you to return with my things. He said. while his alive eye was scanning the surroundings.

-Your things? Ferret asked, slightly concerned.

-Well you see, I heard you have acquired a special kind of lettuce from the store in town and also that you killed him in cold blood.

-That’s a baseless lie he attacked me first, He was after my ……… “Wait Ferret thought what if this man is another crazy lunatic after my note, my precious note, then it's decided I will not reveal that I have it”.

-You stopped in the middle of your sentence Ferret, is there something you want to say? Shiver asked while looking straight through him with his ice eye.

-No it was nothing but how do you know i bought lettuce? Ferret asked, while trying to look composed.

-A little bird told me, well it was not a bird those eat us but you understand right?

-I do not. Ferret said, in the most basic voice known to rodents.

-Well it matters not, show me it please. Shiver asked, But it was more of a command than a question.

Ferret froze up trying to figure out what to do but soon realized that he had no chance of running or fighting.

Ferret moved his paw in a swift motion to the bag and pulled out the special lettuce.

Shiver got a very confused expression as soon as Ferret took it out of the bag.

-You just grab it? He asked in a confused but also a concerned voice

-How else would I move it? Ferret said, sounding very confused.

-Its just that… nevermind, hand it over i need to look at it. He said while staring at Ferret with a suspicious gaze.

As Ferret was handing over the lettuce the rodent put on gloves on both of his paws.

-Now im ready. He said with a cold tone

-Here you go. Ferret said quietly

As soon as the Shiver laid his paws upon the Lettuce his ice eye lit up not in a warm way but it definitely became brighter.

Boooooom, The front door blew off and there stood the tophat stranger, as he raised his head to look at the scene his face that emitted confidence immediately turned to horror.

-You gave it to that thing. He screams out while looking at Ferret.

“Dieeeee” Top Hat screamed as he launched a ball of molten rock straight at Shiver.

All Shiver did was grin as he countered the spell by simply putting his paw in the air, while doing so the ball that was once molten rock cooled down and fell to the floor with a bang as the floorboards broke from the impact. All that remained was a ball of rock on the floor.

-You are a weak and delusional old man. Shiver said, with a cold grin across his face that progressively became more and more deformed

-You will perish, I promise you. The Top Hat exclaimed while giving Shiver a death stare.

Shiver cackled to himself as he said “My turn” as multiple icicles formed in front of him.

They launched at a tremendous speed straight at the Tophat. He tried to counter it by raising his hand “Flame break” He said in a determined voice. As flames broke through his hand burning the icicles that were coming his way.

But it was not enough one of the icicles connected to his arm blood spewing out of the wound, “dammit” he said while holding his side.

-You are still WEAK!! Shiver screamed out from the hole that had been created by the spells passing through.

-Still better than you! Tophat said still confident even after his left arm was almost completely destroyed.

-Hope you remember who gave you that scar!

-I do i do but who took your eye!

-Not you, because you are a failure!

-But i was one of them, wasn't i!

Shiver now only had a frown on his face as he started walking towards the man in the top hat. Tophat understood he would perish if he got too close.”Purging fire” he said firmly.

As a big wave of flames came from the ground enveloping Shiver in what could only be described as an inferno.

Something could be heard from within as a big wave of cold wind broke through destroying the inferno and also leaving the air at a negative celcius value.

Ferret witnessing all of that in the span of a minute or two looked at Tiffany “Hide” she immediately obeyed and left out the back door. Ferret now standing at the opening at the front of his once peaceful house looked out over the two combatants.

He then got an idea “What if i remove his power source” looking over at the lettuce that still was in the hands of Shiver.

Ferret put his plan in motion he slowly approached Shiver from behind that was fully focused on Tophat.

-This is it old man, your magic days are numbered. Shiver said, now radiating confidence as he knew he had won.

-I still have the ember to fight! Tophat said in a calm voice not the kind of voice you would expect from a dying hamster.

-Is that a pun? it doesn't matter, die you fool! Shiver roared at Tophat as he started forming icicles in the air above him.

-Guess it's goodbye then! Tophat said grinning at Shiver

-Why are you smiling? You are going to be annihilated, you fool.

Just in that moment Ferret jumped up and knocked the lettuce out of Shivers hand. “WHAT!!” . He screamed, turning back to look at Ferret that was laying on the floor after jumping.

-You dare intervene in my plans, but either way you will die!

-how come? Ferret looked at him as if he was hit by a big truth bomb.

-You touched it without protection! He exclaimed as he broke into laughter

But Ferret looked at his paws. They felt normal, maybe a little cold but nothing out of the ordinary.

“Comet strike” Tophat yelled out.

immediately Shiver turned to look at Tophat, “did you even launch a spell” Shiver breaks into laughter again.

At the same time Ferret stands up and pats his fur to get rid of the dust. Tophat looked over at Ferret “Take the lettuce and run it will blow soon!” Ferret started sprinting as soon as he heard those words, grabbing the lettuce that had fallen to the ground.

Shiver noticed “what you are not dead?! come back here you”

But Ferret did not stop as he ran into the dark forest that surrounded his humble hut that he called home. That's when he saw what looked like a shooting star. But it was no ordinary shooting star; it was heading right towards the clearing.

It impacted with a giant explosion pushing Ferret to the ground. All he could do was look at the aftermath of the mushroom cloud that was emerging.
