《Fallen God decides to live a little》Chapter 4: A way to protect myself
Advertisement
The night was very quiet but I was momentarily disturbed when I saw a massive bear outside of the cave
The only time it was disturbed was when I saw a gigantic bear outside the cave.
I thought it would come in and slaughter me, but it seemed to be scared of the general area of the cave and it continued to walk away.
I guess the wyvern is truly a terrifying creature for mundane animals.
I also remember that creatures mark their territory by using their excretions but the more powerful ones use their mana or racial energy.
The wyvern is powerful but has no magic so it must have excreted somewhere near here before.
Once I see the bear leave, I entered my sleeping state.
Unlike mortals who dream, we gods do not.
I wonder if it's going to be different this time.
I close my eyes and start to sleep.
When I finally feel sleep grasp me, I start falling into an infinite void.
Unlike the actual void, this is not dark, cold nor scary. It actually feels very familiar and comfortable.
My descent lightens as I eventually reach a room with beautiful white marble floors and a mahogany table in the center.
The top of the table had a tea set made of pure gold with diamond inlays.
The table had two seats and one of them was occupied.
Elyis...
Accompanying the tea set was Elyis who sitting on the other seat.
When I approached the table, the seat moved for me.
I sat down and I adjusted it.
"Elyis."
"Brother."
We both greet each other and Elyis pours me a cup of tea.
Her voice is always monotone.
You've never been one to panic dear sister.
"There is no use in panicking after all."
I shake my head. It was obvious that she would be able to read my thoughts now that I am no longer a god.
But I didn't expect that she wouldn't be this unaffected, considering the events.
They've either fixed everything or she's pretending to be normal.
Wait... Is she here to fetch me?
“I would like to explain some things”
She probably already knows about the predicament I’m in but her next words make my jaw drop.
“No brother, forgive me but I do not know what the problem is with you, nor do any of the other gods. Even elder brother Branac has no answer for you. This is a completely new and unknown situation."
Even Branac doesn't know what to do...
This means the situation is more dangerous than I thought.
It seems that I'll be able to enjoy my time here for a while.
I give her a frown but truth to be told I’m happy.
I try to bury those specific thoughts because I do not want Elyis reading them.
“Brother you cannot hide anything from me. Since your fall, you became near mortal... But our siblings and I convened for a short meeting using our aspects while our true forms are combating the firstborns."
I nod.
"What did you and the others meet?"
"We do not know where the firstborns suddenly came from but we are dealing with them for now. We have decided as your family to let you go and have the adventure you've always yearned for."

I immediately stand up and my chair falls. This is amazing news!
I was about to jump in joy and fully enjoy the news but Elyis continues.
"We will not interfere with you or any of your choices but we have a condition."
I stop to pick my seat up and seat down.
I resume my calm composure.
"What condition?"
"We will not interfere under the condition that you will return to us within 100 years."
I widen my eyes at that large time frame.
Sure, it's short for the gods but it's long for mortals.
"Is that all?"
Elyis shakes her head.
"There is one more."
I nod, urging her to continue.
"You only have one life. We know that you are familiar with all life and death attribute magic but we forbid you from using anything that would allow you to resurrect. Once you die, you are to come back here even if your time of 100 years isn't up yet."
This is a very hard condition but at least I know how important my single life is.
Elyis finished speaking and I asked her a question.
"Can I use resurrection magic on others?"
Elyis nods.
"Now we're done with the conditions, I also have news for you. We also cannot find you. It’s like your very existence was hidden from us but, fortunately, I can still connect with you in your dream world."
Elyis seems a little bit troubled but continues.
"Brother as you may have noticed and what I said earlier, I am not Elyis herself but her aspect."
Yep.
I can barely sense any divine energy from this aspect. Their hands must be full up there.
I’ve become a fallen god but I still managed to retain some of my godly senses, which are the sharpest lenses in the universe.
“I am simply a messenger made out of her energy and will. She sent me to warn you.”
When I become silent, Elyis quiets down as well.
“Continue, I’m just mulling some things over."
Elyis nods and continues.
“I told you that my true self is with our siblings concentrating all their efforts to deal with the invasion.”
I nod and recall the menacing sight of the firstborns literally creating holes in space.
The angels will have a hard time with them...
“The firstborn are currently roaming in the well of creation. They are nigh-infinite in number and have been rampaging non-stop. We do not know who did it and none of the gods are showing any signs of suspicion.”
Elyis’ face looks grim at the mention of the firstborn.
My face crunches at the number. The firstborn is extremely powerful and even we can't kill them permanently, they just reform in the void.
The reason for this is because the first three creatures created by the Creator had permanence. They could not die or disappear.
We have a similar ability.
They are the Creator’s first and out of all of them, the first three were the most powerful. The creator made others and they were powerful but they were nothing but cannon fodder compared to the three.
Even if one firstborn just one, were to fall in the mortal world, it would require the strongest heroes, oldest dragons and greatest archdemons to stop it.

“Your train of thought isn’t wrong. Even if one firstborn was released to the mortal world then it will be nigh-unstoppable. That’s why we are trying to contain the firstborn.”
I don’t have any other questions, except for things I already know the answer to, so I just stare at Elyis.
Elyis seems to notice my nonchalance.
“You do not seem to be affected?"
Not really... I just trust you guys.
“I believe in my brothers and sisters. Even though the firstborns are powerful, none of them compares to the power of a primordial god.”
My words are filled with pride, but I also cannot help but feel sad because I cannot help.
It's because I lost my power when I needed it the most.
My siblings will have to make do without me.
Elyis seems to have a few more questions for me, so I urge her to ask them.
“Brother, why is it that you do not have any mana?”
Oh that question, I’ve been waiting for her to ask that.
“Well a primordial god does not use or have any need for mana. We are filled with an extremely copious amount of divine energy."
Elyis seems to be chuckling.
I guess my sister is learning to joke as well.
I continue speaking.
"I have fallen but technically I am still a god. My divine energy and powers have been sealed turning me effectively mortal. So if I want to be able to use mana, I need to find a way to generate my own just like how a mortal does."
Elyis replies quickly.
“It seems you already have a solution, we have been worrying for no reason at all but do you have a way to protect yourself.”
I stop and think.
Do I have a way to protect myself?
I weigh my options.
I can’t rely on the wyvern because if I brought something like that to a city it’ll be killed.
I can't let one of my creations be destroyed because of my weakness.
I need to find a way to protect myself until I can at least use mana.
“You do not.”
Elyis frowns and seems disappointed.
I can't help but be affected.
I need to cheer her up.
“Sister, don't worry about your brother. He can take care of himself. You should stop thinking of me and focus on the firstborns.”
I say that with full confidence even though I’m manaless.
I am sure with my endless knowledge of the arcane I can easily protect myself.
I'll find a way somehow.
Elyis tenses on her seat but she seems to relax.
She smiles.
“Brother it seems I need to go, but please take this.”
Elyis conjures a small black coin and it floats towards me.
Demries' energy?
The coin has no distinguishing features other than having the capital letter D inscribed on both sides.
Oh... It is from dear Demries.
“It’s an artifact from Demries”
I reluctantly store the small coin in my pockets.
This will be very handy.
Even though I want to be stronger without the help of others, I don’t even have a single speck of power.
I need something to protect me.
“It is a one use artifact”
It’s only one use.
Great.
“Sister Demries thought that if she gave you a powerful artifact that you could use indefinitely, then your wish would have been for naught, so she only gave it one use."
I whisper a thankful prayer to my sister. Usually, primordial gods do not hear worship or prayer because our power does not rely on that but I'm sure my sister can hear me.
"Once activating it, it will protect you from any harm no matter how powerful it is. It can also be used once to resurrect any creature regardless of the time of death and should that person die of natural causes they will be revived to their prime and any diseases will be cured.”
This resurrection ability isn't really necessary since I can't revive myself but it might be helpful later on.
I’m sure this artifact would be the envy of kings.
It’s practically an extra life and it even has the bonus of returning someone to their prime.
I’m going to need to hide it, I’m sure it’ll have some use in the future.
My dream world suddenly starts to break down as cracks appear everywhere.
I look at Elyis and she seems satisfied.
”Goodbye brother, take care."
"Goodbye Elyis. Take care as well."
We bid farewell and I wake up.
I sit up straight and hear quiet growling. I look around and see the wyvern patiently waiting outside the cave.
It starts to flap its wings in excitement like a puppy.
Adorable
Others would consider this to be terrifying.
It must have been waiting for me to wake up.
It's calling my attention towards something.
I guess it wants to give me something.
I stand up, dust myself and walk towards it.
It spins around happily.
The moment I approach the wyvern, it brings me a small bottle that has reddish liquid inside it.
A life potion?
The purity of the red is quite low and it seems a little bit dull.
After a fast inspection, it’s obviously a life potion, though a very low quality.
It's only enough to heal non-mortal wounds but for my situation, this is perfectly appropriate.
I look at the wyvern and it seems to be tired.
It must've been flying all day just to get this.
I rub its spiky head and it falls to the ground satisfied.
I ask it where it came from.
“Did you get this from a village?”
The wyvern shakes its head.
“Did you get it from a nearby town?”
The wyvern shakes its head again.
I wonder where he got this.
I down the potion and I feel the fresh wounds on my chest and back close up and heal but since I took it a day later, some scars remained.
I still wonder where the wyvern got this.
Well no point worrying about it now.
I stand up and stretch.
The wyvern does so as well.
I look forward to the sky.
Time to find civilization.

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
