《Reborn: Last Chance to Ascend》39. Paper Eater

Rose led me to the castle workshop. Yes, the castle had a workshop, and I had no idea about that. "Bang!" thunder-like bangs kept echoing and getting louder and louder as we kept getting closer to the workshop. The whole workshop was located in the secondary building attached to the castle walls. It was a decently built structure made out of stone bricks without any excessive decorations.
"Let's go. But you know Toman is a little bit rough and extremely rude. So be aware of it." I just nodded as I didn't care about someone being rude as long as he did a good job. Rose opened doors for me, and I entered the smithy. Massive oven filled with crimson flames heated the room into a temperature unbearable for normal earth standard humans. A big circle filled with symbols made out of the suspiciously looking red liquid was in the centre of the room.
'Is it blood?'
"Bang" another loud bang come from the corner of the room. I looked there, and I saw a muscular man swinging a massive hammer covered in black flames towards an object placed on the anvil.
'Ohh, I saw him during the heist. But I wouldn't think of him as a blacksmith even in the dream. That is not even blacksmith hammer that is just regular warhammer...'
Blacksmith felt our presence and turned around. Looking at me and then at a Rose, "So why did you bring that insane lass here?"
My brows twitched at that remark, 'Where does that come from? He is probably the insane one with such a remark towards his boss.'
"She needs you to make something."
Toman put down his hammer and spoke, "You are in the right place. I will make you whatever you need, no matter how insane you are. So what do you want?"
"Some kind of plate armour. It needs to be functional and esthetical at the same time. Also, if it is possible, enchant that will make it fit for anyone would be appreciated."

He brought a sketchbook and pencil. Then he pointed towards a simple chair next to the door. "Sit dawn lass. I will create a sketch for ya. So be fucking quiet and let me work and keep your unprofessional opinions until I am done. Speak only when I ask you something."
He straightened his beg and tensed his muscles, "So let's start with a simple question, What colour do you like?".
I already had a vision in my head, so I spoke without thinking, "Base colour should be black with golden decorations. Also, add some glowing red magical runes."
Toman frowned and crushed a pencil with his giant hand, "I can understand a black metal with a golden decoration, but what the fuck is the purpose of some random glowing runes? Are you stupid? Do you want to be visible from a kilometre during the night? Enchant runes are not visible and absolutely do not need to glow."
"For an esthetic purpose?"
He rolled his eyes and took a new pencil out of the pocket, "Whatever", and started to scribe something on the paper. His hands were moving at an incredible speed. Only a minute later, he turned a paper towards me. There was a picture black and white picture of heavy-looking plate armour with a complex pattern of decorations. The helmet was a full-face helmet with a pair of horns.
"This is the first sketch. If you have any problem with it, say it now or never."
"Can you make it sleeker and less bulky? Also, make a helmet looks like they are two separate parts, helmet and mask."
Toman crumpled the paper opened his big mouth, and ate it. My mouth was agape, too, as I absolutely wasn't expecting that. Then he brought out another paper, and his hand with a pencil started to move over the paper again. When he finished, he turned a paper towards me again.

It was much less bulky with a sleek design. The whole design looked smooth and sublime, made out of precisely placed armour plates, with a skirt like part with an opening at the front that supplemented the whole design. It was like regular faulds on classical plate armour but only a top part was made out of the metal a rest was a long cloth going down to the heels I couldn't help and started to smile as it looked almost like I had imagined it.
There was missing only one small detail, "Can you add a long red cape to it?"
Tomans face immediately contorted in anger as he started to spit saliva around, "Hey lass, do I look like a fukin seamstress to you? Go buy your stupid cape somewhere else. I am smith, not a fukin seamstress ".
'Wow, he is kinda over the top. What is wrong with him?', I clenched my fists to suppress my urge to burn him to cinders and started to shout too, "Hey! I will get that cape somewhere else. But at least add it to the picture so I can see it, or I will beat the hell out of you."
Black flames blazed out of Toman's eyes as he started to at me. I glared back at him. We were like that for a few seconds. Rose, in the meantime, ignored the whole situation looking towards the ceiling like nothing was happening around her.
Finally, flames in Toman's eyes extinguished, "I will add that stupid cape." and started to scratch over the paper again.
I looked at it again, "Yes, that's it!". It was the same armour as before, just with an addition of a cape.
"It will be finished in a few days... Now get the fuck out and let me work!"
"Alright, let's go, Rose" I stood up and walked out with a Rose on my toes.
??? POV:
After I left a tavern, I went directly towards a place where was I staying to pick up my angel before leaving a city. The night was cold, but the journey was quick as the streets were almost empty.
"Ahhh!" a loud female scream that I heard even from such a distance with my [Enhanced Senses] came from a direction of an inn.
"It looks like they found bodies. I should hurry up," I murmured to myself.
The world around me started to move rapidly as I speeded up. Only in a few minutes, I reached my destination. It was a regular two-story high building. The whole city was filled with such buildings. I opened the doors and walked through the hallway that was shared by all four apartments. I went towards the stairs leading to the second floor. There I opened doors to the apartment I rented.
"Trouble again? Welcome back." a smooth and gentle female voice reached my ears. I looked towards the source. It was my companion, my angel. She was a beautiful, relatively short woman with a lean figure. Her shiny blond hair was falling all the way towards the bottom part of her back. She was wearing a white robe that hugged her beautiful curves.
"Only minor trouble. Let's leave this city. I found something interesting."
"It's night. Gates are closed."
"I wasn't planning to use a gate anyway."
My angel just smiled at me as we walked towards the exit. Most of our belongings were in the inventory, so it took us not even an hour before we packed the rest of our stuff into [Item Box] too. I saw auras of people gathering in front of the house, 'All of them are weak. So no problem.'

The American Dream: An Alternate, Time-Travel Timeline
Due to a mysterious transcendent being, United States Marine Corps First Lieutenant Samuel Kim from the year 2016 is thrown back in time to the year 1775. To make matters worse, he wakes up near Bunker Hill, mere hours before the famed Battle of Bunker Hill is set to begin. Realizing the unique situation he finds himself in, the lieutenant takes the opportunity to change the fate of the battle and ensure an overwhelming American victory. Guided by his "patronizing" "God" and the American revolutionaries, Lieutenant Kim embarks on a journey to help America gain its independence and to ensure the nation uphold its "most promising" ideals from the very beginning. Author's Warning: The story is very rough in the first few chapters (and as some readers pointed out, some parts are laughable, such as "American idealism"). However, the pace and quality of the story improves from chapter four and onwards. You will enjoy the story if you have some interest in history, worldbuilding, and the butterfly effect (along with a few badass characters). So even if you are a bit turned off in the beginning, I promise that the story improves quickly.
