《Lucky SP》Chapter 18 - Abducted

The van drove quickly on the highway. It turned off a highway ramp and entered into a run down part of the city. Abandoned factories lined the view. A garbage dump was wedged between two old metal processing plants. The streets were devoid of people. Not even a single pedestrian was out. No homeless or beggars were anywhere in sight. The van drove and entered a rusted warehouse. A small delegation of people were waiting there. Mr. Oscar was sitting with perfect posture in a folding chair. His suit was neat and tidy as always. On his left and right were a portion of people with numbers on their foreheads and 4 scientists in civilian clothing. 143 and his team stepped out of the van. 70 pulled Lucky, Marian, Zero, Tonya, and 77 out one at a time from the back. They were all unconscious. "Was it clean?" Mr. Oscar asked as he stood up. The four scientists followed behind him looking at Lucky and the rest curiously. "Sir, we were not noticed nor followed." 143 reported with a salute. Mr. Oscar narrowed his eyes. "Good. Go and take a sample before we move them." He motioned to the scientists. They nodded. They drew the blood and sampled the bone marrow of each of them. Once they were done, they marked the samples in test tubes and stored them in a temperature controlled cooler. "Take them." Mr. Oscar waved his hand. The surrounding guard's injected a sedative into each of them before dragged them into a larger transport. "Go. Regroup at HQ." Mr. Oscar instructed 143 before getting in the truck. 143 and his team returned to the van and quickly emerged back on the road. They drove in a loop, parked the van in a parking meter spot, and walked back to the HQ building in the area. ... Lucky blinked his eyes open slowly. Around him was a sterile white room and a stainless steal bench, toilet, and sink. His eyes adjusted to the light slowly. He looked around. 'Where am I?' He got up and groggily walked to the mirror over the sink. He turned the nob and splashed some water on his face. He looked up in the mirror and was taken aback. His face was once again tattooed. It was just like 77, except he didn't have a number. The letters 'S.P.' were written on his forehead. *Click The door to the room opened and Lucky turned his head to face it. A man giddily walked in with a notepad and pen. He saw Lucky was awake and excitedly greeted him. "Hello! Hello! Hello! My my. I have so many questions for you! I have been waiting so long till you woke up!" The man smiled madly. Lucky silently observed the man. Lucky was really confused. Why was he brought here? Was it those same people who were researching him in the morgue? Did they know who he was before? The man waited patiently for Lucky, who seemed deep in thought. His bald head shinily reflected the lights on the ceiling. Finally, Lucky's eyes regained some focus as he looked at the man again. "Where ... am I?" "Hehe, should I say you are in the afterlife?" The man smiled impishly. A madness filled his eyes. "Then, who are you?" Lucky asked. "I am a geneticist! Haha so close! With your body's secrets we can finally complete it." The mad man talked to himself. "Complete what? Where are my friends?" Lucky's gaze grew cold. "The perfect Alpha human! Ahh I will be the Father of the new age! Solution 958 Genetic Stabilizer really was the solution to use as a binding agent. With your special alpha human genes, we can finish it!" The man gazed up and down over Lucky's body repeatedly. It was as if he was staring at a rare piece of meat in the supermarket. "Solution 958 ?" Lucky's eyes shrank as he remembered the morgue where he first woke up. He recalled the the documents he had opened, the serum vials, everything. He had ended up in the hands of the people he was most cautious about. He looked around at the room he was in once more. It was a sterile holding cell. "Ah, we will be at the peak of the world now! Who could stop our progress?" The geneticist continued daydreaming to himself. *Cough *cough Lucky coughed awkwardly. The geneticist smiled. "You can call me Mr. Peter. We are going to change the future together, young man. No! You are not that young. Right, You don't look a day over 19. God Anti-aging! Incredible. The perfect Alpha Human can be created! It's not just fantasy!" The man entered back into his rambling. Lucky listened silently to Mr. Peter's words. He was talking to himself, but Lucky could gather some information from his mumblings. Lucky was in a HQ location within Vanguard. He recalled what 77 said about them when they ate together at Uncle Jim's. 'According to 77 and Tonya, these people are either lunatics and evil.' He began to worry more about the others. 77, Tonya, and Zero had been here before as well. But even after escaping, they had been brought back to the place which killed them. The man took a sample of Lucky's blood before leaving the cell, still muttering to himself. Lucky noticed he would always remain relatively calm in these situations. Even during the Bodie attacks he could think calmly and analyze the situation. Perhaps his brain was damaged even more than he thought. Did he lose more than just his long term memories? 'Why am I so calm?' Lucky looked at his hands and looked around the sterile cell. Lucky walked in front of the mirror again and stared at his reflection. He stared at the five tally marks on his cheek. Then at the S.P. on his forehead. 'Whatever, I have a knew tattoo now.' Lucky laid on the stainless steal bed and shut his eyes trying to rest.He felt the cold stainless steel against his back. It reminded him of when he first woke up in the morgue. He felt it a sense of deja vu. 'Marian was right. This kind of Deja vu is unpleasant.'

The Glyph Queen
When Winnie was thirteen, her settlement taught her how to fire a rifle. Her school practiced drills in case raiders came, and the town grew crops in their greenhouse-adapted homes, which were the only places warm enough during the worldwide nuclear winter. The Lakiran empire invades—a corporate-born nation overseen by their corporate-born queen, Victoria Paladino. They ride silent planes whose repulsion field veered bullets away. Three years of occupation later, an exemplar visits—a member of Victoria’s oversight committee rumored to read minds. He tells Winnie that she may have a unique mental power, or a flair. At the empire’s capital, the queen herself tutors Winnie to help her reach the full potential of whatever power she may have. Meanwhile, in post-war Nigeria, a streetwise teenager named Naema sees a different side of the empire. Between corruption and oppression, everyone lives in squaller. People fight over assembled food pastes. She too is told she has a unique flair, not by the empire, but by a fugitive woman who is the last vestige of an ancient witch coven, and she knows a dark secret about what the exemplars do to people like Winnie and Naema. But Umbra isn't the hero everyone wants her to be. Updates will at least one chapter every two days. Notable Location Poliagoras. Poliagoras is the most important world in the Fabric partly due to it being the centre of everything both literally and metaphorically. Trade, commerce, travel, and politics are all conducted primarily on Poliagoras, it has the biggest city in the fabric stretching to cover almost the entire world. It also holds all the known Great portals in the Fabric which are the only way to travel to other worlds. Even without these things, Poliagoras would still be the most important world in the Fabric as it is home to the largest population of Favoured. They were mages chosen by the Deities and given the potential to become more than mortal. I cannot overstate how appreciated constructive criticism is. This is the first story I have written of my own volition so even a small comment on how I could improve would be great. The current title is most definitely a working one. I know it isn't great.
