《Ehror, The Ascent》Chapter 5

The wall was five meters in height, a grey monstrosity with no features. Five meters was not a big height for people on her level to clear. However, it was protected by a field of Ehror that extended like a tarp on the inside. They would have to destroy it. While the wall had been built with people like her in mind, they hand never expected that their experiments would reach the level of power that those considered the top 5 of the subjects had. And she especially had the most Ehror out of the forty-two Novas. She dragged it from deep within her forming a dark indigo aura in from of her. Her ability would not do much to the wall, the angle it worked at and the more consistent over explosive technique meant that it would not break the wall. Gael’s ice shards could dent it and maybe create a few whole but it would not be enough to escape and Angelo’s abilities were more esoteric than physical in effect. What they needed was pure explosive power and she had that in spades.
While it was wasteful and exhausting releasing your Ehror in a burst was useful in situations like this. The section of wall was blown apart leaving a four-meter-wide gap in it allowing them to pass. She drooped slightly exhaustion appearing on her features, that was big even for her. Looking one last time to the facility, she saw a nearby mountain her a sizeable crater on its side. The sounds of fighting continued as they walked off into the forest.
Back to the present
Sevyn glanced around all of a sudden, a prickling sensation alerting her.
“I don’t like being spied on.” She stated loudly enough for anyone just outside of the large clearing to hear. She assumed it was another of her fellow Novas that had escaped. What she did not expect was an Ehror enhanced arrow to blitz towards Angelo at insane speeds. Sevyn pushed him out of the way in time as the arrow sailed past and slammed into a tree with an explosive impact. Those would hurt.

Another arrow came from another direction, they were on high alert now all three moving erratically, it seemed they were being assailed upon by a group of enemies. Apparently human this time. Gael countered a few with ice shards of his own, also aiming into the forest to see if he could land a few hits. Meanwhile Sevyn was perplexed, something was off about this attack, but she hardly had time to think about it her body was moving with instinctively as she thought up out to deal with this.
“On me!”
Gael and Angelo obeyed without hesitation. Once they were both in range, she activated an ability. All three of them felt blood rush to their heads and they flew up in the air. In fact, to them it felt like they were falling headfirst, because that was exactly what was happening. She had reversed gravity within the area. The arrows flew past harmlessly underneath them, the speed they moved at unaffected by the reversal as the three of them flew into the air towards the tops of the trees. With a moment to breathe the feeling she got suddenly felt clear. They were not being attacked by a group of pursuers. It was only one person, moving incredibly quickly in between positions that it felt like several hunters. She could tell because the angles the arrows came from between each shot was a maximum of one hundred and twenty degrees from the last. The shooter just had incredibly fast in movement.
She looked at Gael.
“I was thinking the same thing.” He simply stated. He spread his arms and ice covered the ground from where the last arrow had come from to the other two possible places the shooter could go. Sure enough the next shot did not come as they heard a slip and a grunt. Sevyn deactivated her reverse gravity and they fell back to the ground, heading towards the direction of the sound. They reached just in time to see the attacker get to his feet from the ground with a backflip. His bow drawn already several arrows in it in a fan shape. He wore a brown leather jacket and dark pants covered in a green cloak with a hood and a mask covered his mouth. The little they could see of his body showed bronze coloured skin.

Before she could speak, he fired a fan of arrows at the group. They all ducked immediately and his figured blurred before disappearing. It seemed that was a technique of his. He appeared a few meters away from his starting point, bow drawn again. This time his Ehror was released and lightning appeared from his body flowing into his arrow. He released them. The speed was nothing like before. If she had not move her arms to block and released an excess of Ehror in anticipation before his release she could have been gravely injured. The power and speed were like nothing before. As she was flung back several dozen meters, the shockwave released by her movement through the air shook the trees all around and fell several of them.
Angelo was still exhausted but was able to use a brief Nightmare on their assailant forcing him to wince in pain before being blasted by a hail of ice shards. He was barely able to dodge out of the way with lightning trailing his blur, he was able to move further than before with that move. Gael retreated with Angelo towards Sevyn’s fallen form as she stood up painfully, they had fast healing, but it wasn’t so fast that the wounds she acquired in the fight against the giant wolf were done. Their assailant looked genuinely surprised based on his black eyes that she could still move. Normally her bloodlust would be running high by now, but something about how he fought them still felt off or else she would have gone on the attack immediately after they had fell him earlier.
“This is too tough a fight, we are still recovering from the giant wolf, we should retreat.” Gael stated haltingly.
He was correct but they were all unsure about how to escape this man that moved like a literal blur. Sevyn realized that this was no situation to hold back despite her unease.
“Angelo?”
“I can Nightmare once more, but it would definitely be my last for a long while.” He whispered in a soft voice. The multitude of chains was a large toll on his Ehror. What he gained from absorbing the wolf’s increased his Ehror tank and boosted his body further but did not actually fill it up, rather it increased the amount he could have at a time.
“Its enough, time it with me, Gael you are free to use your own judgement.” Her body stung all over from that hit she knew she couldn’t take another like that, but she suspected that he was unable to use them in quick succession and gambled on that. Her instincts were rarely wrong. Rushing at him. The ground around him froze up to limit his use of the instant movement, as always Gael knew what to do without her saying it. She went low sliding on the ice to go for a sweep. Lightning flowed from the man’s body heating up the ice directly under him and vaporizing it, he then jumped up into the air. Before wincing once more as she followed directly after. Angelo had made his move with perfect timing preventing the man from seeing her approach. She followed up with a kick to his midriff, throwing him to the ground with the force. Directly over him she shifted her form into an axe kick before increasing the gravity affected both himself and her to increase the force of the blow as she rocketed down. He dodged out of the way with a roll at the last second. Jumping to his feet. As she approached threateningly. He raised his hands in a gesture of surrender.
“Wait wait, stop!” He yelled.
Sevyn blinked.
