《Just a Simple Guy》9 - 1001 magical spices

Nightfall came rather quickly with Salim zoning out during the whole ride just watching the grass go by.
Beth moved the cart into a small clearing off of the road got out. Pulling supplies from the back part of the cart she reached in and pulled out what seemed to be a disassembled tent.
Placing it on the ground she waved her arms causing the tent to immediately erect itself producing a homey like feeling to it as if it reminded Salim of his old apartment.
Beth turned around after setting the tent up and waved at Salim to follow as she shuffled into the tent leaning down to get through the opening flap. Salim glancing warily at the tent.
Tent of Rest Lv. 80 (Active)
Similar to a spacial warp, this tent has had its insides expanded to accommodate large groups of people.
Hmm. So like a pocket dimension in a tent. Salim didn’t realize that was something that was even possible. Well, he didn’t know an anything that had happened to him was possible recently so that wasn’t really a revelation.
Salim was interested in getting an actual rest without something attempting murder on him so he followed Beth inside of the tent.
What followed was a sensation that Salim found hard to properly explain. His whole body felt like it was being twisted and pushed similar to when he was first transported to this place yet. Different. Hard to place down what kind of feeling it was but that's all that he could really describe it as.
The inside was just as confusing. Walls covered with stone carvings surrounded him as he stepped out of what seemed to be a door? What the hell is this?
A large chandelier hung from above providing a rather gothic aesthetic to the room lighting up the carvings to have the right amount of shadow and light giving a sort of mystic feel to the onlooker.
In the three cardinal directions in front of Salim there where doors leading to other rooms he suspected.
Hearing a banging coming from the leftmost door Salim strode over to it pushing it open with a rather large amount of force that surprised Salim. These doors were a lot heavier than he originally thought.
Inside the room there appeared to be a medieval-ish kitchen with a few of the nuances of the modern day kitchen. Pots and pans hung strewn about on a suspension system above an island in the middle.

The walls were mainly lined with shelves and counters made for god knows how many chefs. But on the inside, there is what appeared to be a weird contraption hooked up to a gas stove. A built-in sink that really just made Salim question how much shit was in here. If there was indoor plumbing where was the disposal or source?
Salim spied Beth at the other end of the kitchen who seemed to be fumbling with a cabinet cursing.
Walking closer Salim noticed the cabinet door had engravings on it and inside held a bunch of ripe looking food.
Was… Was this a magical refrigerator??? You truly could supplement everything of modern day with magic then Salim concluded as he stared in awe at the majestic magic refrigerator.
Beth who must have realized he came in a while ago turned around with a couple assorted vegetables and placed them on the island in the middle. “You're going to be the cook for this journey if you want to earn your keep.” She said pointedly.
Why did she want me to cook? Salim was a stranger that she picked up off the side of the road. He could try to poison her or something Salim didn’t know.
Maybe she couldn’t cook? She could have always been so powerful she didn’t need to have to cook because she had others do it for her.
Either way, Salim was not going to take his chances by asking her and simply nodded in confirmation before looking down at the fruits he had in his disposal.
Royal Turnip Lv. 21 Ingredient
Born in the royal gardens of Domenui this turnip is the perfect mix of sweet and mild
Large Royal Carrots Lv. 37 Ingredient
Born in the royal gardens of Domenui this carrot far outstrips its peers in size and taste
Baby Potatoes Lv. 14 Ingredient
Small little potatoes that just look so cute!
Salim looked at what she was giving him. He was just going to ignore the fact that the food had been grown in the ROYAL gardens of where she heralded from but it honestly wasn’t much. He could probably make an okay stew out of it.
Beth looked at Salim expectantly and he just nodded in confirmation that he could make something out of it. At least that's what he thought she was asking with that look.
Either way, Beth seemed satisfied as she turned away and strutted out of the kitchen easily opening the door before turning back and speaking to Salim.

“I’ll be in the room across from here knock on the door when the food is ready.” And with that said she quickly vanished behind fast slamming doors.
Salim’s look turned back to the vegetables. He cooked quite a lot back when he lived by himself in his apartment so this wasn’t that much different from then. Still… The stuff he was given kinda sucked for a full meal.
So turning around Salim tried to pull open the magical refrigerator only to find he couldn’t. Great not only are their magical refrigerators they also I.D. you so food thieves can’t come and rob you in the night.
Rolling his eyes Salim began looking through other cabinets trying to find something else he could use, what he was hoping to find was some spices.
His thought process was mainly on the fact of spacial magic. He saw how the size inside the refrigerator fit exactly with the size of the cabinet so there was probably some sort of issue with putting spacial magic in an already spacially expanded place. Someone probably put a tent of rest in a tent of rest and when the whole thing blew up or something they realized it was a pretty bad idea. Anyway, that didn’t really matter at this point… Spices, spices, spices where are you. Ah ha!
Opening the fifth cabinet to the right of the refrigerator Salim found what he was looking for. Screw all that fancy stuff this is the real shit.
Salt Lv. 5
It's salt.
Pepper Lv. 7
It's pepper.
Although the names where a little lacking he had found what he wanted and so work had progressed.
Crossing over to the island to retrieve the vegetables Salim found a wooden block, a knife, and a pot. Filling the pot with water he walked over to the weird gas stove thing he looked at it. A weird tuning fork shape thing stuck out of it and looked as if it was just begging to be grabbed.
Salim touched it and as he did a feeling of mana being used flew through him as a small flame appeared on the stove.
Hm. So it was a magic stove too. Salim didn’t have anything against this. By his estimations, he had more than enough mana to cook the meal and he had more control than what he would normally have with any stove. Not that having control would help if he still fucked up but you know the thought helps.
Grabbing the now overflowing pot of water Salim drained some before setting the pot on the stove. Not heating it yet Salim grabbed the vegetables along with the wooden block and began chopping with the knife.
Immediately Salim noticed the difference his stats made from his old self. With speed and precision that was impossible in the past, Salim sliced all of the vegetables into small clean bits.
With the cutting done Salim began boiling the water and just thought of some things as he waited.
So many things had happened since he had first come here he was finally coming out of shock. Standing there in a kitchen seemed to be a mix of home and new that Salim was sure triggered some sort of reflectiveness in him. A feeling of melancholy slipped over him as he just took it all in.
In no time the water was done boiling and Salim pushed the vegetables in and began the stew making process.
Watching the vegetables boil was kind of comforting in a way to Salim as he added the salt and pepper and let it soak in.
Salim wondered what he was going to do here. It was very likely that others from his world had come here he wasn’t arrogant enough to assume he was the only one but he wasn’t sure he wanted to go back.
This life may be dangerous as just the first to days had experienced had been but so many more interesting and crazy cool things had happened. Maybe he was just odd Salim didn’t know but sitting in the odd lighting of this strange space kitchen with magic devices around him, he felt completely fine with being odd.
Finding two bowls Salim poured the soup into the bowls and drained the rest of the vegetable water down the drain of the weird sink.
Putting the pot up for washing Salim pushed open the door to the kitchen and walked out to the main door. Moving in silence along hard stone floor Salim walked up to the door Beth had specified and stared at it.
It was completely the same as all the others. So without hesitance, Salim raised his hand and knocked

Arround him, the era shifts as immense powers struggle and scheme for the world's future. Author's note: This is the first story I'm writting in a coherent manner (I have written a lot of DnD background stories in the past), so bear with me if I make boring or overdescriptive bits: I'll regularly come back to rewrite whichever parts feel unpolished, especially grammatical errors. I would also appreciate any corrections or suggestions.
