"You are a vampire?" Xiodar asks the young man.
"..." He stares at him. "If you didn't know that then you really weren't send."
"I told you!"
"But..." He takes out a red potion from his pocket. "I can't say you aren't enemy!"
"Oh no you WON'T!" *WHOOOSH* Xiodar swing the darkpole to prevent vampire from drinking the potion. Noble jumps back and drinks from the little vial.
"Heh my name is Jael Bloodfang and I will show you true strength of the vampire!"
"Hmph... Xiodar and I will show you... Screw it I will just kick your a*s."
Jael smiles then his eyes turned completely red and started glowing with a bright light. Now his fangs become visible and fingernails turned into black claws."*HISSSSSSSS*"
'So it is his rage mode?' Xiodar started emitting the black smoke to boost his muscles. 'I can't let him hurt me, who knows what will happen when he taste my blood.'
"*RRAAAWRRR*" Vampire jumps at demon.*WHOOOSH* Xiodar cut in front of him with his weapon but Jael avoid without slowing down."Uhh" Demon lord jumps to the left to avoid rapier. Then he falls down to avoid claw. He manage to hit monster's chin with his knee.
By using mana coating his body he flew back. Then he saw that Jael is floating. 'So he avoided my attack with this' Xiodar crouch and create the dark ball above ground.
"*ARGHH*" When vampire get himself together he rushed again. Demon lord get ready to jump back but then...*SWIIIIISH* Jael throws the rapier at him. Xiodar clapped his hands and catch the familiar black dot in front of his face but vampire get closer. 'Sh*t I dismissed the darkpole.'
Demon lord jumps back while throwing the rapier away. When Bloodfang get in his reach he punched him with a mana boosted fist. Jael was thrown back but didn't take serious damage. 'I got you where I wanted!'. Xiodar quickly detonates the dark ball mine.
*BOOOM*
'That should be the end.' Demon looks at little crater. Jael was still standing but big parts of him where laying around. Still no blood. Then his body started regenerate. Unlike Xiodar's black smoke that heals him his body regrows missing parts. When he's fully healed he's back in his previous form. Then he collapses.

**********
"Ughhh..." Jael wakes up with hurting head. 'That was a really bad nightmare' In his dream he was fighting with a monster. He thought that the Monster was distraction and illusion because he kept using raw mana like it was nothing. If high class demon like vampire would using it... He wouldn't be able to hold together half of this pole for 2 seconds. But the monster was holding it like normal stick and was using other raw mana based spells.
'Good thing it isn't possible.' He gets up from the bed. Even in a bloodlust he couldn't scracht the monster, only Heroes and Demon lords are able to beat vampire in the bloodlust. Even worse for Heroes because the bloodlust strength is based on blood quality.
*Crack* Jael opens doors to living room.
"Yo! Got your beauty sleep?"
Vampire frozen. Monster is sitting in his living room and drinking a tea.
***********
"So... How you went past the guards?" Jael asks and takes sip from his cup.
"I told them 'Stop me and you're next'" Xiodar answers and reaches for a cookie.
"I don't blame them, so... What are you?" Vampire asks.
"Hard to tell, I know very little about the world." Demon answers again.
"So where did you came from?" Bloodfang question.
"From the desert."
"That I know, but before?"
"Uhh... Sky?"
"..."
"Let me ask, do you know about dead Demon lord?"
Jael nods. "Yes, my father was his General. He died in the battle with Hero of Doom 10 years ago."
"Hero of Doom?"
"Hero with power to cancel any magic." Vampire shivers. "Demons had replaced their nerves and blood systems for mana channels, so Hero could kill any demon with little touch."
"*Gulp* That sound dangerous."
"Even the castle of Demon lord vanished after a battle, there even rumours that Lord Velhar won't revive." Jael has a face like he reminds himself a joke.
"Oh these are true."
Vampire blinks. "How you can be so sure?"
"Oh Gand... I mean Kabarin told me" Xiodar answers honestly.
"God of magic?! You meet him?!" Jael throws away his cup.

"Meet? He created me."
"So you are homoculus?" Vampire inspects Xiodar.
"Ummm... I don't think so? He send me as a new Demon lord."
Jael couldn't take his jaw from the floor. "And he send you here?!"
"Yup. So where are we anyway?"
"*Sigh*" Vampire stands. "Come with me."
********************
Xiodar and Jael arrive at the dark room. Floor was looking like a screen and was showing some kind of map. Vampire wave his hands and map zoom in at the place that looked like perfect red circle.
"We are here at the Cursed desert."
"What did you say?"
"Cursed desert?"
'I knew it' Xiodar rise a fist.
"*cough* Anyway, Cursed desert has certain feature... It's spinning."
"What do you mean?"
"It is a giant whirlpool of sand. Looking at the direction you came from you take the worst possible way."
"Wait. How long it takes to cross the desert?" Xiodar asks.
"That depends on direction you are going. It is from 2 weeks to eternity."
"Eternity?"
"Yes, spinning speed is greater than normal traveling speed." Jael shrugs his arms.
"So if i didn't boost my legs and run like crazy I would stuck here?" Demon widens his eyes.
"Exactly, so I don't understand why he send you here." Vampire nods.
"I see. What is this blue dot?" Demon lord points at map.
"It is the castle. It was built so It won't go to the centre but still go around."
"Why?"
"On the West is a human's territory, when the castle is close vampires would go and hunt humans."
Xiodar looks at map. Side on left is mostly green and a right side is mostly grey. Between them is a line of mountains with a desert making a gap. North is getting whiter on both sides. Map also has some marked locations. On human's side is big city, big forest and mountains at south.
"And there are?" He asks the vampire.
"Capital of nomads, Elven forest and Gate of dwarfs." Jael explains.
It looks like that: elves and dwarfs are species of humans. Nomads are closest to normal humans. Their name came from the fact they can live everywhere. Elves live mostly in forests, dwarfs have their own kingdom underground and nomads build cities everywhere. Dwarfs are the strongest, elves are the best in magic and nomads are the tastiest. According to Jael.
"And on the Demon side?"
There are four castles. On the north part is the castle of Kokmal the Mad, on the south part is the castle of Dourin the Witch. Closer to the north side used to stand castle of Velhar the Dead. It is no a joke... at last it wasn't. And the last one is castle of Vpierdoll the Unmovable. Summing up Jael's descriptions: Kokmal is a crazy scientist/shaman, Dourin is a witch (duh), Velhar used to be a lich and Vpierdoll is basically a gorilla.
Demons don't build cities and mostly live in tribes. There is a lot of species, but they divide in low, mid and high class. Heroes and Demon lords are above them, Dragons are equal but never mentioned. Big lizards don't need to eat so they sleep most of the time.
"If they wake up they will destroy everything around to get tired and go to sleep." Vampire says.
"But even I don't get tired?"
"If you have enough mana you don't need to sleep or eat but dragons can turn it off."
"I see. What about..."
*BOOOM* Someone made a new window in the celling allowing sunlight to enter.
"Attack?! I will get them and kill them the most painful dead possible!" Jael yells.
"It would sound much better if you didn't hide under a table..."

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
