《Reign of the Wallenstein》Chapter 5

My mother was upset when I skipped breakfast on her. It was a nightmare. it's something you won't expect from an airhead woman. But trust me on this, First Class Hero is no joke.
Oh yeah, it turns out they don't use the term "Adventurer" for those who delve into the dungeon in this world. Instead of adventurers, they called them Pro Hero.
I guess that the modern world mha for you.
Anyway, since that fateful day, I never skipped the family dinner ever again. Breakfast too, but not lunch. She's a hero, after all. So she can't just spend all day inside the house doing nothing.
But it's not like it brings me a disadvantage either. I just had to manage my schedule a little better.
I begin the day by spending some family time with Ais over breakfast. After that, I went to elementary school like a normal kid, pretending to study, be a good boy, and all that. Though as expected of elementary school, it was too easy! I don't even need to study at all.
It's all thanks to that bitchy matron's selfless donation to our cause.
Good thing I took that book from her room, otherwise I and my fellow orphan won't be able to read and stayed Illiterate for the rest of our life, which was capped at 18 years old.
So I can proudly say that I have mastered the way of the Elementary School.
It was a cinch!
Haha, just wait mom. I'll ace the school exam and score SSS rank on my bingo book! By then, all of the kids in the elemental neighborhood will fear my name!
Ha, what the hell am I talking about... I have no idea.
Looked like these kids' delusion Quirk, Chuunibyou has gotten to me.
But not all my time was spent studying. Otherwise, It would be a wasted reincarnation.
Let's see, I swear I feel something yesterday...
I slowed my breathing and pooled my focus to myself.
Life Force should be something that exists inside every person. Without them, people would wither and die. it's the same with the plant.
I just need to find-
"Good job! That is correct! As for the next problem... Joey Wallenstein, I want you to solve it."
Dammit!
I was just getting started!
Just a little bit more...
"Joey! Don't use your Quirk during the class!" The teacher scolds me.
Are you a mind reader?!
"Your body is glowing!"
She's not.
Huh, She's smirking?!
Which one is she?!
In the end, I didn't get to practice my Quirk that day.

Wait, my body is glowing?
===
The moment the bell rang, the students cheered.
They looked so happy as though they just got a Christmas present. Somehow I got it. I also feel quite good thinking of the extra time I'll have to myself tonight. Finally, I can train my Quirk again!
I quickly packed my books and pen into my backpack. Then I sling it to my shoulder.
"See you tomorrow, Joey!"
A girly voice calls out to me.
Who? Ah, the book girl.
Hmm, what was her name again? Momo?
"Yeah, and Momo, don't forget to bring your textbook tomorrow."
Honestly, she's such a forgetful girl. How can a student forget their textbook? In the end, we had to share a table. Geez, these students don't take their studies seriously.
They had no idea that there are plenty of people who want to learn but don't have the means to.
See, even these kids agree with me.
They patted Momo's shoulder, pity in their eyes.
"Don't mind Momo!"
"Yeah, Joey is kind of hopeless. So don't mind!"
I walked out of the classroom, leaving the kids to their devices. I would never have thought that I would meet a cast from mha this soon. If not for her name, I'm afraid I won't recognize her. She looks so different from her adult self.
Outside the school, I saw a maid waiting for me.
As I thought, no matter how many times I do this, I can't get used to it.
"Good work today young master."
Himiko curtsied and flashed me a professional smile. I kid you not, it sent a shiver down my spine. It's not the feral or crazy smile I often saw in anime, but that is the problem. This is not like Himiko Toga at all. A fake! I told you!
Or some kind of conspiracy!
Just wait, sooner or later I'll expose her.
She lead me to the car and we went directly back to the safe zone, Wallenstein's mansion.
Inside the bedroom, I sat cross-legged on my bed, deep in thought.
What should I do to increase my status? Training, it's obvious. As for the Quirk problem, it can wait... Or not.
Honestly, my body is too small to train extensively. It might do more harm than good. At least that is what Himiko told me after she caught me doing some pushups in the dojo.
Just in case, I browsed this topic in the Giggle, and it turns out she's not lying!
Isn't that wild?
But... That doesn't mean I'll start trusting her. Who knows if it might be her ruse to gain my trust before stabbing me in the back.

Anyway, I should focus on understanding my Quirk today.
Hmm, let's see...
After simulating it in my mind a few times, I focused my mind and a trace of energy seeped out of my heart.
Yes! this is it! This sensation is the real one!
I just need to retrace what I did in school.
So far, all is smooth and easy. But I can't make the said energy move far from my heart, let alone spread out into my skin to act as a force field.
I grit my teeth and pushed the energy, or in this case, life force harder to come out to the surface. The goal is my surface body.
One minute, two minutes, four minutes. Time passed as I pushed myself harder and harder but there was no improvement whatsoever.
Could it be I had no talent?
Nah, don't be pessimistic Joey. Most aspiring Hero is not expected to learn their Quirk before attending the Academy, which is years away from now on.
So I had to wait years before I could use my Quirk?
Can I wait?
Of course not!
Who knows what might happen to me tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. No one can predict the future. Just like I can't predict that I and my fellow orphans had to soil our hands in blood the moment our country was plunged into war.
Who knows if some kind of war might happen again in this world, or if some high-level monsters breach the tower and wreak havoc upon the surface.
I don't know about the canon but in this world, monsters are free to wander between the floors! Hence, those who awakened a Quirk are obligated to attend the U.A High School and go dungeon delving once a month. Or face the consequences. Worse, the Association might label them as a Villain. By then, you could never be able to show your face to the outside world ever again. That is unless you want to escape outside the Great Wall and into the wilderness, a place full of wild monsters with no warm food and no hygiene.
I can't help but shudder at the thought. It kind of reminds me of the past.
Now that I have experienced the juicy meat and sweet milk paradise, I can't go back to the poor lifestyle anymore. Or I'll go crazy.
So what should I do to awaken my Quirk without relying on the academy or dungeon?
Hmm, wait...
I can't rely on them but I can rely on my family!
I palmed my face.
Ais is a First Class Hero so her strength is absolute. If she teaches me the way of the sword, I might be able to surpass her and become the sword emperor.
Ahem!
Now, let's ask her!
"Mom! Teach me how to fight with a sword!"
"Okay." Ais nodded at me right away.
No hesitation!
I love you, mom!
"Madam, I don't think that's a good idea. Young master Joey is too young to learn swordsmanship. His body had no foundation so it might do more harm than good."
Himiko the shadow maid whispered some devil temptation to my mother.
This crazy maid!
Uh damn, I made a mistake.
I shouldn't have asked with her in the room!
And as expected, mom was persuaded by the crazy maid and finally decided to make me wait until I graduated from elementary school!
That is tons of years!
I can't wait that long!
That's how I find myself back in my bedroom.
Damn it, that maid always messing with my plan. Learning swordsmanship might help me in figuring out how to use my Quirk effectively.
But now that was out of the window.
Asking how other people develop their quirk is also useless. I already Giggled it. The majority of the quirk is different from each other and so does their usage and development.
Not to mention my Quirk is S-Rank in terms of rarity. So finding someone with the same Quirk as me is like finding a needle in a haystack. Nearly impossible unless they become a famous pro hero and have their mark recorded in the Pro Hero Ranking. But so far, I haven't spotted top heroes in the ranking with the same Quirk as me.
The lower the rank, the more common a Quirk becomes. The opposite is also true.
In the end, is there no other choice other than increasing my magic?
I have no idea how, but magic stats indeed affect the Quirk development. The higher my magic stats, the stronger my Quirk becomes.
I did wonder why the system named it Magic. They're supposed to be different kinds of power, right? Isn't magic supposed to be something you cast by chanting some chuuni lines to throw some immolated rock at your enemies?
I'm so lost but eh, who cares...
All I need to do is find a way to increase my magic stats. It should be easy for a young master of a rich family, right?

Travelers [DROPPED]
DROPPED. The story focuses less on dungeon building than on the why of dungeons and how they fit into the universal order. While I am working from a grand plot, the writing is going slice of life style because I need to do that to work out how things progress into that grand plot. The original story seed idea / synopsis is below. The Grand Tapestry protects Rhofhir from Primal Chaos by imposing Order via patterns. However, the patterns grow stiff, stagnant, and so the Tapestry is nearing a time of Unraveling. Evidence of past civilizations wiped out during previous Unravelings foreshadow the apocalyptic catastrophe looming over the world. The mages of the Arcane Asylum reach out across dimensions, searching for some way to prevent, or at least stall, the coming Unraveling. Among the many voices they find is a gifted graduate student researching machine-assisted telepathy -- and his gaming group. Lena never expected that the chance to play DnD with telepathy would result in her becoming an actual Dungeon Master, nor that her friends could become the bosses of her dungeon. This is, in many ways, her dream come true, but there's a catch: What happened to Brad, the creator of that telepathy machine?

Ogre Tyrant
Tim wakes up to find he is naked and alone in a fantasy world. However, he is not as alone as he first thought. There are other people running around all over the place fighting monsters for a living. Unfortunately for Tim, he seems to be one of those monsters. Desperate for any degree of safety and normalcy he can find, Tim must tread a fine line between freedom and subservience to survive. All while trying to keep alive a trio of adventurers hellbent on becoming legends. However, unfortunately for Tim, he is not the only one from earth to awaken in this world and the other Awakened aren't nearly so benevolent. Warning: The protagonist begins the story quite cowed and meek but progresses into a more assertive and situationally dominant personality. This is partly due to growth, but also a result of the character overcoming initial shock and longstanding depression. If you think I could have handled a segment better, by all means, point it out and provide your reasoning and suggestion. Everyone's experience of depression is different, and Tim's is a close representation of my own, so it won't necessarily 'vibe' with everyone. Chapters are around 15k words and released approx 1/week over the weekend. Has been reduced to around 7.5k to 9k to better fit my schedule.[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Natural Alchemist
Will is poor. This is a fact he does not like about himself. Even back at his home village he was considered poor, but poor in the big city means something completely different than poor in a small village... It means ten hour days of hard manual labor with barely enough money to survive, and poor living conditions. He's sick of it, and desperate for change. Perhaps that was what made him decide to spend such a large portion of his savings on a mysterious potion from that beggar... That, and it seemed so special when he held it. But ever since that day, he's been having the strangest dreams... And the work is really starting to take a toll on his body... Author's Note: I wasn't sure which mature content warnings I should put on this novel, as I'm pretty much pantsing the story. I'm putting them there mostly as a percaution, but also to not limit myself as to where the story can go. This is my first time writing and publishing anything substantial. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
