《Bounty Cats》Book Two: Chapter 14

“I can’t believe we are back in the sewer!” Rei cried, following Luna through the dark sewer tunnel. She switched her night vision on to see her surroundings.
“Kitty, pull your tail out of your ass,” Luna complained. “When you are hunting, you need to be prepared to look anywhere. If a predator cannot hunt anywhere, it will starve.”
Rei glared at her partner. “But we are living in a city. Nobody can starve here.”
Luna burst out a chuckle. “Unless you’re poor. Now shut up.”
Rei let out a soft snarl.
She ignored her partner's rude comment, but she still followed her lead. Indeed, Luna was right about looking everywhere for the target. Rei wouldn't earn her paycheck if she couldn't sneak anywhere in the city.
"Halt!" Luna held out her hand toward Rei. "I see something….. Coming toward our path."
Rei felt a cold chill rushing up through her spine as her ears prickled upward. Zooming in through her night vision, she spotted a figure running through the tunnel, moving closer and closer. He didn't look like a blob, but he was short with a long fuzzy tail and a short snort with long pointy ears on his small head. He wore a leather coat, small jeans, and both his arms were metal, probably mechanic. And his right eye was glowing red, maybe mechanic too.
Rei couldn't tell what the color of his fur was, but she could tell he was a little fox. A fennec to be clear.
“Run!” The little fox screamed. “Run for your-”
He tripped and landed below Luna's feet in the water. The panther pulled out her gun and aimed it at him. "Who the hell are you?"
The fox sat up and raised his little hands in the air. “Wait! I am a bounty hunter!”

Luna narrowed her eyes. “Show us your identification.”
“Okay!” The fox held out his arm and touched his wrist, projecting his I.D.

Luna lowered her gun. “Tell us why you are here, little shit.”
Philip shuddered as if his body was freezing on the inside. “I….. Was hunting with my pals here. We got ambushed….. By….. By….." He pointed his finger down the tunnel. "The thing!"
"What thing?" Rei asked.
"He meant the blob, dummy." Luna gazed back toward the fennec. "Good, take us to it."
Philip widened his eyes. "Are you kidding me? It will kill us all! I barely- "
Luna tipped her holster. "You hear that? That is the sound of my gun, ready to pop a cap up your little ass."
“You can’t kill me!”
Luna looked around. “I don’t see any witnesses here.”

Rei raised her hand. “I’m a witness!”
Luna glared at her and stared back at the fox. “What I mean is, I can shoot your face and leave your rotting corpse here for the rats to feast on. Yes, that would be murder, but if nobody can find your body here, there is no murder. Understand, bitch?”
The fox nodded his head, letting cold air escape from his wide mouth. “Okay….. Follow me…..”
After he got up, Philip strolled back toward where he ran from.
“You weren’t going to kill him, were you?” Rei asked, following Luna’s back.
“I’m not those punks who kill innocent people,” Luna whispered. “Keep following my lead.”
Rei sighed. “Gwaenchanh-a.”
She wouldn’t accept her partner to kill a fellow bounty hunter unless he turned out to be a criminal. But she could still trust her partner in this dangerous situation.
