"That you home Joanne?" Her mum called as she closed the door and leant her back on it.
"Yes mum," she sighed and dragged herself to her feet. She was going to have to do an extra long run tomorrow to work off all the coke she drank tonight.
As she reached the living room her mum asked "Did you have a nice time?" She was reading her Agatha Christie novel and hadn't looked up.
"I think it may have been life changing." She said softly. At that her mum looked up.
"Where's your guitar?" She asked, Jo looked around stupidly.
"Oh, I must have left it in Susans car!" She said, her mother shaking her head in dismay. "I can nip over and get it tomorrow."
"So, what was so 'life changing'" her mum asked.
"Jenny's mum thinks she might be able to get me a full scholarship to go to university." She said with a goofy smile.
"Is that right? Well, keep your celebrations until the money's in the bank, nothing's a sure thing. Good on you if you do though, your father and I would be proud as punch." She said and went back to reading.
Jo just said "yes mum, night." And got up, kissed her mum's head and went to her bedroom. "She sent Susan a text straight away asking if she could come round and grab her guitar in the morning and Susan sent an enthusiastic yes along with her address.
She didn't sleep though, she was wound tight as clock spring so she picked up her electric guitar, plugged in her headphones and played. She didn't pay much attention to her song choices but somehow, every one turned out to be an upbeat love song. When she finally went to bed she lay thinking about that hug, wondering if she had been right, were all of Anne's friends somehow gay?
