Chapter 1 - Royal Blood Online

"Your Majesty, we can't stop the Darkness Army. Lands of Elven, Dwarves, Orcs and Faires has been conquered by them. They even started to invade Capital Kingdom Isian. "

Emperor Metehan had worn a gloomy face when he heard the report of the Chief Commander. They were overwhelmed by the Darkness Army. The Great Jun Empire was on the verge of annihilation. Metehan looked at his wife, Empress of the Great Jun Empire, Fairy Queen Arora with farewelling eyes. Arora figured out what he was planing. “No, you can’t do this! There must be another way!”

“I wish there was but there isn’t. If we don’t do anything, we will be all annihilated by the Darkness Army. If I will be able to save my people from annihilation, I will gladly sacrifice my life.” Metehan said with a determined voice. Metehan was planning to use a special skill called “Noble Sacrifice of the Royal Blood” which only he can use. This was a special skill that creates a holy barrier that prevents any evil from entering and converts the caster life force to the power source of the barrier.

“But even if we prevent them from entering for now, what is gonna happen when your life force was depleted and holy barrier disappeared? We won’t possible have the power to defy them no matter how much time passes.” Arora asked with a worried voice. Metehan smiled at Arora and handed a parchment to her.

“We can create a dimensional gate to another world and allow adventurers to come to our world with this. They are immortals and possess infinite powers. Even though their growth rate is a little slow, I should be able to hold out until they become strong enough to go against the Darkness Army. I believe in you, Arora.”

Arora started to cry, hugging to Metehan. She was gonna lose her only love. Her heart was aching so much that she could die. But she has to live in order to grant the last will of her only love.

“Don’t cry. I won’t die as long as my will lives. I believe that someday someone with my will is going to appear and success me. When that happens, I trust you to guide him well. Our glorious empire will rise again. And I will keep on living in it.”

Arora tried to subside her tears and smile at Mete. And she returned to the guards. “Prepare the hidden chamber.”

“Did you hear that? Sevgi dumped her boyfriend again.”

“No way! He was so cool! What was the reason?”

“I heard that it was because of a game. You know that new game, Royal Blood Online which will be launched next month, right? She decided to play it and his boyfriend protested her decision so she dumped him.”

“Now way! It was because of something so trivial?”

“Yes. This was the fourth boyfriend she dumped this year.”

“Well, since she is so beautiful, all the boys are after her. She can find a new one anytime she likes. I wish I was so beautiful as well.”

After he heard the chatters of girls in the school garden, a faint smile had appeared on Mete’s face. He was in love with her since the Middle School. However he had never found the courage to confess his feelings. Sevgi was the most beautiful and most popular girl in the school. He wouldn’t even image that she would respond to his feelings. The problem wasn’t Mete’s appearance but his self-confidence. His childhood was a hell. Until he was graduated from the Middle School, he had been bullied by the delinquents. Everyday he was beaten and his money was stolen. He had a very thin and weak body so he was targeted by them. Finally his family couldn’t stand it anymore and sent him to the Karate course. He didn’t want to go at first because he was getting beaten more than the delinquents beats him. However after he’s gotten used to it, he had started to like it. Now his body was well-built and stronger. So delinquents weren’t messing up with him anymore. But his self-confidence was still not high. Although his body has gotten stronger, his mind was still weak.

‘Royal Blood Online, huh? I will look into it when I got home.’ Mete hadn’t played many computer games. Ever since he started to go to Karate course, he didn’t have time for those kind of things. After school he was going to the course and then he was doing his homeworks when he got home. And he was working at a cafe in the summer holidays. His family wasn’t poor. Moreover they would be considered rich for the Turkey standards. However his father was quite poor when he was a kid so he had to work while studying and managed to be a doctor. That’s why he wanted his son to have some life experience and to be strong enough to be able to take care of himself. He had even stopped to give him allowance ever since he started to go to the High School. Mete was working in the summer holidays so that he can have money during the school times. In other words, he didn’t have times for the games.

“Wow. So this was a virtual reality game, huh?!”

The research on the Royal Blood had amazed Mete quite much. While he was busy with Karate course and school, he had become quite ignorant about the current developments in the gaming world.

The first virtual reality game in the world was gonna be launched. And it was Royal Blood Online. The technology in the science fiction movies and stroy books had been invented. It was Global Revolution Corporations that created this technology. It was a new Turkish company founded by a young entrepreneur, Hakan Zeybek.Company had many foreigner scientist and engineers and was the first company that invented this technology in the world. The first application of this technology was a Virtual Massively Multiplayer Online Role Play Game.

It was gonna be launched after the college entrance exams. A special game unit and a private network connection was required to be able to play the game. Due to security issues, standard internet connection wasn’t gonna be used. The game unit was gonna be around 3000 TL(1 $ is about 2,6 TL). And the private network connection for the game had 200 TL monthly service fee. Mete was an asocial guy so he was almost spending no money. That’s why had saved about 6000 TL by working at the summer holidays. So he had enough money for the game unit and monthly service fees.

Mete had good marks and studied for the College Entrance Exam quite well. However he had no goals. He didn’t know what he wants to do in the future. In Turkey, you take a common exam and then chose a college depending on your score you took. That’s called College Entrance Exam. And his family wasn’t indicating anything on him but they were expecting him to go to a good college. “You should decide what to do in your life. We can’t decide for you.” That’s what they have been always saying to him. He was planning to decide it after he took the exam. So he wasn’t worried about it too much.

After his research on the internet, the game had taken his interest. At the beginning his interest for the game was because of Sevgi but now he had gotten interested in it too. He pre-ordered the game unit and went to bed.

‘I guess I can get a good score. The results will be announced in 2 months. I will have to decide a carrier then. ’ That’s what his thought after the College Entrance Exam. He was now graduated from the High School and had to decide a carrier. However this was not important at the moment. All he wanted was to go home and connect Royal Blood Online. It was gonna be online less than an hour.

His family didn’t care about whether he works or not, as long as he doesn’t ask any money from them. So he decided not to work this summer. He had enough money to play it and pay his possible college tuition. Since he was planning to chose a college in ?stanbul, he could stay with his family during his college life. And he could work while studying in the college if he needed money later. So it was all good. He was gonna play Royal Blood Online during his summer holiday. He went home hastily. Royal Blood Online was opened when he got home. He went into the game unit without losing any second and connected the game.

“Welcome to Royal Blood Online. You are not registered. Would you like to register?” A gentle woman voice said.

“Yes.”

“Please select a username. This will also be your character name as well. You can only create one character. Once you created a character you can not delete it. “

“My username is Metehan.” Mete had thought about quite much. And he had decided to use the name of the Emperor of the Great Hun Empire.

"Account Metehan has been successfully created. Royal Blood Online has 55 different races. However the only selectable race right now is Human. So your race automatically selected as Human. Would you like to customize your appearance?"

"No, the way it is."

"Royal Blood Online has a City State system. So Continent of Isian doesn’t have any Kingdoms right now. There are 4 selectable City States as a starting town. Those are in the east Semerkant, in the west Viyan, in the north Cedric and in the south Afra. Which town would you like to select?"

"Hmm, I will chose Semerkant."

"Starting town selected as Semerkant. There are five classes you can select right now.

Warrior: Warriors are strong and honorable people. They have high strength, defence and life force. Because of their low intelligence and wisdom, they aren’t well-suited for magic. However they strike fear into their enemies by their high close combat abilities on the battlefields.

Mage : Mages are intelligent and wise people. Because of their high magical abilities, they make blood baths on the battlefields. Although their life forces and defences are low, because of their abilities to make blood baths on the battlefields, they are considered as important combat forces in the large scale battles.

Ranger : Rangers are agile and cunning people. They cover up their lack of strength with their high agility. They have low defence but they use high speed ranged attacks and hunt their preys without giving them any chance to get close. This ability makes them the irreplaceable and must-have forces of the battlefields.

Assassin: Assassin are sneaky and clever people. They lurk in the darkness and hunt down their prey by surprise. They play a critical role on battlefields by assassinating the enemy commanders.

Cleric : Clerics are gentle and peaceful people. They don’t have much combat abilities. Their defence is low but they have strong buff and healing powers. They cure their allies and cast strong buffs on them on the battlefields. This ability of them can change the flow of the battle.

Please select a class. You can only change your class 3 times in the game and you will get some penalties if you do. "

Metehan already decided. He even took Kendo classes during the past month and learned the basics of how to use a sword. "I select the Warrior class.”

“The Warrior class has been selected. Character Metehan has been successfully created. Royal Blood Online has two play modes as Ideal and Realistic. Those modes determine how realistic your game experience will be.

Ideal Mode: You will feel the pain and realism of the game at minimum. Your combat abilities will mostly depend on your character stats and skills. You might need a while to able to control your body properly and you might not be able to perform your movements as you wish. You will have some advantages and disadvantages in this mode.

Realistic Mode : You will feel the pain and realism of the game at maximum. Your combat abilities will be influenced by your personal abilities. You will be able to control your body naturally and you will experience everything no different than reality. You will have some advantages and disadvantages in this mode. Please select your play mode.”

‘Play mode? I didn’t see any information about this on the internet. I wonder they added this because this is a virtual reality game?’

Mete had made research on the internet about Royal Road Online and other MMORPGs. But he hadn’t seen any information about this. The “feeling pain at maximum” part made him a little hesitant but this was a virtual reality game and he wanted to experience it as possible as real. He had even taken Kendo lessons. He didn’t want his personal abilities to go waste. Personal abilities was a way to make a difference in the game. He wanted to be as possible as strong so he can catch Sevgi’s attention and impress her. ‘It can’t be as bad as getting beaten by the bullies.’ Metehan made his decision.

“I select Realistic Mode.”

“Play mode has been selected as Realistic Mode. Connecting Royal Blood Online. We wish you a wonderful game experience.”

His adventure had started like this. He had no idea what Realistic Mode really is. But he was gonna find out about it eventually.

Royal Blood Online
