《The Demon Child - Awakening》Chapter 23 - Quest

After the fight, I went back home to see the subjects were just playing around again. Many of them looked at me, looking to fight off what I did to Luke, but I had enough crap in this world. I sensed a summoning of an incarnate weapon while hearing it. Looking over, I created gush of wind to knock whoever tried to attack me and went back inside.
There I made my way towards my room, even seeing Jododam in his library again, glancing at me, doing nothing, which I was grateful. It was the middle of the day when I returned, so I took off my clothes and got into bed, reading five chapters of a history book about dragonoids and went to bed.
I woke up in Antral again and went outside, looking at the massive board that many ghouls were surrounding it. As I got closer, they backed away; I told them I am also just looking, and they got closer to me again.
I turned out that this camp had some sort of quest system of types. Demons could pay other's to do favours or even their jobs for more rules; after all, I guess that they have their own families as well.
I was searching for a quest to pass the time before I was pinned against it, stomping on my tail, and I saw at the corner of my eye, saw Astaroth had restricted me. Astaroth then grabbed my neck, turned me around and pinned me against the board again; this time, his arm was squashing my windpipe.
"Listen here Dynestar, Lucyfers about to pick a guild quest, so get ready, you got that!" Astaroth raged at me.
"Yeah, I'll go get ready," I coughed, pushing him back.
"Great, then scram!" Astaroth yelled at me while taking his arm away.
"Don't tell me what to do."
I walked towards my tent and started to pack all the things I had. I got a little sac and just put a small leather canteen. I then ran out of my tent and back to Astaroth.

"I don't have anything personal, so I packed a canteen," I calmly said to Astaroth.
"Good, the others have arrived, and Lucyfer is coming out,"
I looked towards the main tent to see that Lucyfer had come out with a piece of parchment in her hand. She then stopped in front Astaroth, Xirax, Abatson and I and started to speak.
"Ok team, we have a mission," Lucyfer sighed.
"What is it?" Abatson replied.
"We have to take out a nobleman who has been doing bad deeds... Gener, a rank one greater demon, seems easy enough,"
"When do we leave?" Abatson quickly replied.
"One day, and Dynestar," She turned to me. "Two things. One! Don't slow the team down, and Two! Here you go,"
Lucyfer then chucked a small rose-red booklet at me, I caught it and took a look at it. It was made out of red leather and had a nice touch. I turned it around to see golden details saying 'Your Welcome, from Jododam'. I just smirked and flicked through the small booklet. After I stopped on the second page, I was shocked by what I saw.
"This… this is," I stuttered.
"Krayme asked me to give it to you, he said it was from Jododam, saying that it will help him during the quest, and don't bring extra clothes, bring essentials, like a canteen or some food" Lucyfer replied.
"I don't think I need food, but I need to go and ask Krayme something, I'll be back."
I entered the tent where Lucyfer had just exited. I saw Krayme; he was scribbling on some paper. He looked up and saw me; a smile came across his face.
"Perfect, since you're going on a mission, you will have to wear some more fitting attire," Krayme laughed.
"So you're changing my equipment for the mission?" I replied.
"Correct, now to save time changing."

Krayme snapped his fingers, and I was engulfed in flames. After a short while, the fire subsided, and I was covered in some new clothing. Some gauntlets that went up to my shoulders had appeared, as well as some greaves and a piece of an iron breastplate on my chest, all were quite heavy.
"Offense for defence," I smirked, taking off my breastplate saying that.
"Correct, now I want you to memorize that book while you wait," Krayme replied.
"But before I go, I want to know more about our target," The breastplate hit the floor making a loud bang.
"Gener is a noble, he does slave trades and other black-market properties, he's been causing us trouble,"
"What kind of trouble?"
"He killed who you are replacing, Kappa. Lucyfer tried to keep her rage under lock and key around you, but all of your comrades have a grudge against him,"
I was shocked by what I heard, Gener killed Kappa. I was only his replacement, but still, I felt a grudge myself. Burying the anger which had ignited inside me, I took a deep breath and breathed out a cold sigh and kept talking.
"Where does Gener live or is present?!" I questioned Krayme.
"Slow down. He lives in a small castle, about two days up north by carriage, for your team it should take one day to get there if you jump in the trees."
"Hmmm, how secure is the area?"
"It's not very secure, mostly guarded by ghouls and low ranking demons, he's also having a banquet with other nobles just like him. The rewards are for each noble you kill, Gener is twice that amount. Also, our little buyer put Geners name up just for little Lucyfer to see,"
"Who's the person that put him up for a quest?"
"Jododam, even Gener's troubles are causing him grief, so he sent me this to give to Lucyfer. Other rewards include that you move up a demon rank even if you do nothing, your performance will be looked upon like that based on how many nobles you kill or identify,"
"Also, you will be able to visit where Jododam lives and go sightseeing for the day; also the bounties will be split across you five," Krayme continued.
I was shocked to find out that Jododam put up the quest for us, although I guessed that he would do it sooner or later to take a look at my abilities since he wanted to see how his subjects are getting on.
"Anything else you wish to know Dynestar?" Krayme asked me.
I thought for a moment.
"No, but thank you for telling me about it," I replied.
Suddenly, Lucyfer came storming in, with an angry look.
"Dynestar! Change of plans! We're leaving now!" I then heard Lucyfer yelling out to me.
"Understood, thank you for the information Krayme," I turned around and bowed.
"It's alright Dynestar, now, time to go," Krayme replied.
"I will see you later."
I ran out of the tent to see that my group were all looking at me. I talked to them about the small amount of information I gathered. After I was done, Lucyfer seemed extremely pleased.
"Very well Dynestar, now move out!" Lucyfer yelled to the group.
We all simply nodded our heads and followed her into the north woods.
'Jododam, what do you have in plan for me this time,' I thought while going into the woods.
"One more thing," Lucyfer yelled, "We attack at nightfall."

Candor: The Forgotten House
*** Please read note below *** As a 16-year-old mage from a powerful family, Jayce Candor had known from a young age what his future would hold. As the fourth son in his family the possibility of him becoming the heir to the household was very small. But, with his talent as a mage, his potential accomplishments in the military could lead to titles of nobility and political power. However, on what would otherwise be an unremarkable night, everything he had ever known, the only people he ever cared for, and all of the plans for his future were destroyed. House Candor, one of the six great houses that helped build the Eldoran Empire had been erased from history. By imperial decree, all those bearing the name Candor were hunted down and executed as traitors of the Empire. With no home, no family, and only death waiting for him, Jayce decided to escape north to the uncharted Northern Territories to begin a new life. Forced into situations he was never prepared for and trying to cope with his past, Jayce tries to find safety in a place spoken about only in legends. There for the first time, he will make true friends and find people he will come to see as family. He will encounter strong enemies, build powerful alliances, and become a person his ancestors would be proud of. But surrounded by creatures he thought only existed in tales and pressed by the Empire’s constant expansion, Jayce’s safety may be only an illusion. To survive a world fraught with danger Jayce will need to grow stronger with each new experience and rebuild his once forgotten house. ********************************************************************** Note: The story starts slow. Although there is more action as the story progresses, there is a fair amount of introspection and character introduction in the first 30 chapters. Jayce is the main character, however, other characters play a large role and the story is seen through multiple POV's. This is a draft, it is not a finished work. This is not a story that focuses on an OP MC who beats up on weaklings. At times there can be a fair amount of internal monologue. Some of that may be edited out when I rewrite the story. I decided to keep it in the draft because I think it is better to have too much material rather than too little when I edit. Constructive criticism is appreciated as it helps in the editing and rewriting process. Check out my other story Shattered Mind here

Dominion Expansion (a 4X LitRPG)
Clay is one of the world's top players of 4X games, a genre where the goal is to eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. He's also one of the only players in the world to so stubbornly stick to the one city strategy, a favorite tactic of his that involves only ever using a single city or planet depending on the game's setting. All that matters to him is winning with his favorite strategy, but earning the respect of his fellow players for taking a sub-optimal strategy to its highest level has always been a nice bonus. And now it is because of his skill and entertaining determination that he has been chosen to represent a higher realm in a strategy game where the fate of Earth and dozens of other worlds are at stake. To the victor goes the spoils, and the spoils include entire worlds and billions of lives. That's how he ends up representing the ascended realm of Hell in a grand "game" between an entire pantheon of godly beings and other higher powers. But while it may just be a game to those overseeing it, it is a genuine war for survival to those participating in it where billions of real lives will go to the victor of whoever wins, and many will die before the game is over. Quick Author's Notes: System inspired by Civilization, Endless Legend, Stellaris, and Crusader Kings 2. Combat mechanics inspired by the Total War series. Slow-paced with many long-term plans. Protagonist has a personality heavily inspired by Ron Swanson. Know who that is and love him? You should like Clay. Know who Ron Swanson is and hate him? You'll probably hate Clay. Planning on writing every single day (turn). Days with important things happening will have the system/game mechanics be the priority of the chapter. Days where there isn't really anything important happening will be more slice-of-life and focused on character interactions. Designed a dice-based randomized map generator to create the world as the story goes on, so I don't even know myself exactly what's going to happen as a lot is dependent on world generation. Tech tree with hundreds of technologies already designed. There is a "harem," but it's not the main focus, the girls won't be cardboard cutouts, and I'm not going to completely forget about any previous women in the relationship whenever a new one comes along. One last thing. The "game" starts off with primitive technology level. The current plan is for the "endgame" tech level to be equivilent to WW2-era technology. After that and war just gets boring until you end up in space. Cover is temporary and made from royalty-free stock images while waiting for the real cover's commission to finish.

Starlight Antiquities
There is a place in the galaxy that deals in antiquities of all kinds, human and non-human alike. Its inventory of artifacts is colossal as is its inventory of mercs who they hire to acquire any artifact a client may wish that is yet to come into their possession. The ill-reputable business is constantly rubbing against the changing tolerance of the Union's government, and there are many security officers who would love nothing better than to vaporize the whole place with its owners inside. Yet, there are many tasks that nobody can do better, especially in the vastness of deep space where Union law is worth less than the energy needed to display it. One of its jobs involves finding an artifact that may not only hold the future of the human race but may also disturb the balance of the whole galaxy. *** While waiting for the next season of Mandalorian and the Witcher, and rewatching Firefly for the gazillionth of time, I decided to write this space-based series. The series has some litRPG elements in it, but it does not read like one. So, you won't run into any blue screens here. Yet, I wanted to use litRPG to give another dimension to this whole story and make it as unique as possible. This is a work-in-progress. Hope to keep on improving and fixing my mistakes as I go along.

The Head That Wears The Crown
It's a tale as old as time. Boy goes to funeral. Boy gets sucked into a different world. Boy has to lead a settlement. Boy has to lead a settlement? Boy has to lead a settlement. This is a story about that settlement, and some other stuff. Maybe. Disclaimer: Not sure if it qualifies enough for a gore tag. There is a description of someone's death somewhere in this, but I don't think it is descriptive enough to justify a gore tag. Disclaimer part deux: I initially started writing this as background for another story but got so into it I just ended fleshing it out a bit. Disclaimer part tres: People love reading disclaimers don't they? It's why I've included so many. They're just for you. Disclaimer part four: I know, this is getting egregious. You're starting to find it less funny. Just wait till the twentieth disclaimer, it will start being funny again. Disclaimer part five: I'm kidding, this is the last one. I don't promise I'll read every comment or message, but I certainly welcome your feedback. Disclaimer part six: I lied, it wasn't the last one. I wrote this story without breaking it down into chapters. It just goes, that means that the chapter ends when it ends, not when there is a convenient break in the story. That means that it's very annoying for you as a reader since chapters can end mid sentence. Hah! Sucker! Disclaimer part seven: Get ready for slow updates. Who knows when this will continue. Toss it on read later and come back in fifty years. Disclaimer part eight: Cover Photo by Arthur Ogleznev on Unsplash
