《Weak 'Heroes'》Chapter 3: Learning

The Mages class begun. They walked into a classroom which resembled our classroom from our world, but of course their were differences. Such as the wands to the side and a few peculiar weapons.
"Everyone sit down, we'll begin right away". The woman took off her hat and sat down at her desk.
"Before we start do you have any questions?". She scanned the room.
...
"Okay then, we'll begin with elementary magic". She rolled her eyes as she said this. Usually, Heroes are expected to have already learned these forms of magic, so she thought it was a waste of time.
"You were all in that room for a few hours, so I'm assuming you've worked out how to use your status windows and learned how to assign skills?".
The class as a whole answered with a resounding 'Yes'.
She went around the room asking what skills they picked. There weren't that many unique magics, and the majority of people picked both of their skills. Besides their element magic, there were quite varied skills. Some had a second element whilst some had a weapon efficiency skill.
"So, what skills did you pick?". I was the last person she spoke to so she seemed annoyed already.
"Water Magic".
As I said this, the womans eyes turned green.
She nodded her head. "Finally, someone who picked their aptitude". She looked at the rest of class disgruntingly.
"All of you go run outside in the field. Come back when you gained +1 Agility".
I stood up about to go outside.
"Water dude, not you". She winked as I turned around.
"Since you haven't picked a second skill. I'll let you test out some of these weapons. Having a second element isn't an option. The people who picked a second element will most likely struggle to progress since they'll be stuck with mediocore magic, instead of one powerful one".
"I already know what I want to pick, I just haven't yet".
"And that is?"
"Needle Efficiency".
...
She paused and came to a realisation. "Oh, do you want to be a sweist instead of a combatant mage?".
"Nope. Combatant. Anyways I'll choose it now".
"W-wait". She stuttered running towards me.
"Too late".
"I won't shout at you unless you give me a good reason". She crossed her arms, waiting for my response.
"It seemed cool I guess? I already have a plan in mind and it's related to magic. If I can make the needles float, then I'll be pretty useful right?". James already had a plan in mind.
Luxie squinted her eyes and started laughing. "Alright. My names Luxie, what's yours?".
"James".
"Okay James. This better work".
She turned and shouted for everyone to come inside.
As everyone sat down she stated "Everyone has mana inside of them whether you're a Mage or not. Everyone here is an Apprentice so I don't expect your magic to be strong. A problem with Magic is that you need imagination. There are no set spells you can copy, which is why actually good Magicians are considered rare. Alot of Magicians are stuck at around the Level 3 mainly due to not having creativity and their spells being lackluster".
"For now I'll leave you with one more piece of information. You will all have to pick a God(dess) before you leave the castle for good. There are thousands of celestial beings, however you can only pick one. There are 10 Main Gods worshipped throughout this world. Of course, there will be evil Gods. I hope you don't attract their eyes. With that, we're done. Tomorrow, you all better learn how to use your magic or you will be having private lessons with me". As she closed her sentence down she smirked and the doors suddenly opened.

It was her doing, it was her way of telling us to get the hell out.
"Okay so Echo, and a free slot. That's fine. Usually you'd want to get a passive for a weapon since you'll most likely be Level 1 for a while. You get another slot when you level up. Do you have any ideas of what you want your style to be? I'm pretty much a mage so I have Staff Efficiency. But it isn't compulsory".
Liam looked confused so he didn't say anything for a minute.
"Well, what do you recommend? My friends are Mages, Archers and an Assassin. If we were to fight a monster, we'd be wiped out since none of us have high endurance stats". What Liam said is correct. None of their classes have high endurance.
"Unfortunately, the Orator Class isn't made well for being a Tank". The man sized boy called Elo paused.
"Well, theres another way".
He carried on speaking. "Usually the role of an Orator is to command a battlefield, however that isn't what I do, and frankly you don't look like a commander".
Liam looked hurt, but he knew he was correct. Liam's quite soft hearted.
"In my case, I'm pretty unique since the words I say through Echo not only enhance my voice, it also projects magic so if I were to say 'Stop' with Echo, the enemy would stop".
"However, I'm capable of giving buffs via my voice through magic, although it's very insignifcant buffs which don't do much since I learned it when I was Level 4. But what would happen if you learned it at Level 1 and had time to nurture Light Magic, you'd be get pretty good at right?"
Liam eyes sparkled. "Does that mean I don't have to directly hurt anyone?"
Elo was deep in thought. "No matter how I look at it, you still will have to. It would be too inefficient, especially since Priests, Paladins, Healers, Druids do a much better job".
"Why can't I just be a Tank and use Light Magic?". Liam was confused.
"Paladins already do that. Orator is a class which is hard to use since you need so many skill slots. I seriously cannot think of a good style which will actually make you useful and different".
It was silence for two minutes until Liam started speaking.
"I have an aptitude for speaking different languages if that helps. I learnt 6 languages fluently in my past world". It felt weird saying past world since yesterday he was at home enjoying his life.
Elo put his hand on his chin.
"Elven Language. To use Spirit Magic you need to know the Elven Language". Elos face looked like a light bulb switched in his mind.
Elo paused and turned around and scavenged through books.
"If you are able to converse with Ellie in a weeks time via Elven Language, I'll let you learn Spirit Magic. Well, as it is you can't learn Spirit Magic since for it to be an actual option, you need to know the Elven Language. Humans who are friends with Elfs get an option to learn the Elven Language through a skill slot, but they never pick it since it is essentially a wasted slot, and learning the language without the skill is apparently too hard since it's too different and hard, only human Scholars or Merchants learn the Elven Language, and Spirit Magic isn't even an option since Merchants/Scholars isn't a class you can be born with, meaning you can't level up". After his long ramble he took a deep breath.

"Why can't they level up?". Liam was confused.
"On your status window do you see the black star on [Echo]? That means it's a skill related to your class, meaning when you level up the skill, your experience to your overall Level slightly goes up. Because of this you can get to around Level 3 without actually Monsters, but that can take up to around 10 years and you obviously don't have that amount of time".
"Okay that's enough for today, come back to my office in a weeks time, Ellie will be here. It better be early in the morning".
As Liam was walking out, Elo said something quite strange.
"Maybe you can be the one to change the stereotype". Elo nodded to himself.
"Bow Efficiency and an extra slot". Ellie almost instantly got into teaching mode.
"Get Hitpoint. Whenever you have a bow in your hand you can see vitals on everything and anything. Obviously, when it's a low level it's not as intricate, but that can be solved with practice and levelling up the ability". Ellie seemed pleased for some reason. She was smiling the whole time despite her outward appearance.
"Little boy, why did you pick two abilities? What are you dense? You're so lucky you didn't pick wrong. Backstab and Dagger Efficiency. Honestly, Assassins are a rare case where it might've been better to get Evade instead of an Efficiency type ability, but it's fine".
"Show me your statuses. You can show me by touching me when you open it".
Ellie grabbed both of their hands without hesitation.
"Hurry up".

"Uhh. Aren't you both meant to be heroes?". Ellie was stunned.
"What's that supposed to mean?". Jackson seems to be riled up since everyone keeps looking down on them.
"You have less stats than a 10 year old Villager".
"Also why do you only have +2 because of your occupation, it's supposed to be +5. Archers it's +3 Agility, +2 Strength, and for Assassins it's +5 Agility. If you're exceptionally talented it can sometimes be +6, but that's unlikely".
"Well, how do we get our stats up then?". Evie asked looking defeated.
"There are two ways. Depending on the stat you can get it up by doing the act. An example being Agility. Agility can increase by pushing your limits via running. Strength is the same, by pushing your limits through weights which increases the strength. Intelligence is quite different. You can only get it up through reading books on various topic. Magic Power and Dexterity falls in line with Strength and Agility. The more times you run out of mana the more likely hood of your stat increasing, and the more times you perform intricate tasks, Dexterity goes up". Ellie sighed.
"The other way is to level up your class specific ability, that's why it's important to get something related to your class. I can't tell just based on the skill, so you need to get it up and it'll say what stat raises".
"Okay, we'll spar, pick your weapon over there". Ellie pointed into the corner of the room".
Evie looked over into the direction, and the bows were so medieval looking. The only bow that looked familiar was the long bow, but it's way too big for her. She looked at a bow which resembles a Recurve Bow, but it was made of wood. She then picked up the Arrow Quiver with Arrows inside. They were wooden with a metal head.
Jackson picked up two daggers without hesitating. They were quite long but were way shorter than a sword, they couldn't even be compared.
Jackson held the daggers like a 2 year old holding a pencil.
Ellie rolled her eyes. "Here, hold them like this". She showed him to hold it like them being upside down, as apparently it makes it easier to stab things.
"Okay, start. You make the first move".
Evie readed her bow. Because of her past experience, she knows what she is doing. But the bow feels too different. It's hard to set up quickly. Because of hitpoint she could see a target on Ellies forehead.
pew
The fire speed was way too slow. Ellie dodged it with ease and ran towards Jackson.
Jackson smirked whilst Evie was reading another Arrow. Jackson matched Ellie and ran at her. He had an idea that Evie would provide back up fire whilst he engaged in combat. He didn't realise that she took out a bow and not her daggers. Whilst she was running she was aiming her bow directly at Evie.
"Evie MOVE!". Jackson yelled across the room, Evie hesitated for one second.
In the leg. Evie was shot directly through the leg, you could see the arrow head on the other side.
Evie screamed in pain. Jackson froze. He didn't know what to do.
He just ran at Ellie in a frenzy. He couldn't even get close since she had throwing knives. She missed her first one which was unexpected, but her second one grazed his arm. It hurt but he still ran. At that, Ellie smirked. She drew out her machette like daggers and readied them.
Evies scream still ran out, Jackson tried his best to ignore it but he couldn't.
Someone who he cared for was rolling around in pain, screaming.
Without realising it, Ellie somehow teleported infront of him, and swiped him across the face with her dagger. It was shallow, but it looked intentional since she didn't want to permanently hurt them. Because of this, this gave Jackson a chance to hit back, but whilst he did her other dagger stabbed him in the thigh.
Jackson roared, and with that. He passed out. Evie by this time had passed out.
Ellie picked up both of them and shoved them on her shoulders.
"3/10". Ellie said to herself.
