《The Men Who Chased A Dragon》The Prologue
Advertisement
The moment I was born, I was born running.
The men, they chase and chase. When they stop and rest, I cannot, I keep running. The light of the sun is a curse, making me easier for the men to find. The branches and trees scratch me as I leap and run, but I can’t stop. my eyes are heavy, impossible to keep open, but I keep running. The world around me is getting darker every day, but I keep running. And the scenery is a blur, the only constant is the men. Sometimes the men change, sometimes the men try to call out to me, sometimes they throw spears, knives, and shoot arrows. Sometimes their are many men, sometimes they live in big caves outside, sometimes their caves are next to each other. Sometimes,… I go to sleep.
I wake in one of the many tall grass fields I sleep in, always changing, but the only place I can sleep. How many moons has it been since I last found a tall grass field? Too many. I wake up with the same questions I do every sun rise, why. Why do the men chase. Why do they attack. What did I do? And despite always asking these questions, I can’t ask the men, and I can’t get the answer.
With that out of the way, I need to eat. My stomach is gripping my bones tightly, and contracting, growling, and pleading. My stomach pains me for food, clawing at the edges of my sanity. I must eat. Food. It’s the only thing more important then running. Sometimes I go into the forest for food, sometimes some of the calling men will leave me a trail of it, fruits, leaves, and nuts. But never meat.
Meat. The best food. The best to eat. The best for running. The best. I need it. Now is the time. Meat. I’ll go to the outside caves and get meat. I can run if I need to. I need meat more than anything. Meat. I slowly tremble toward the direction of the outside caves, they are far, very far. I remember running very far from the outside caves because of the men. They gawked and leered looking like they all wanted to make meat out of ME. They took out their knifes, and they brandished their swords, So I ran, as I do from all the men. But this sun rise made me feel different, strong even. I will brandished my teeth as they brandished their knifes. I will bite and tear through MEAT. And if that meat needs to be the men, so be it.

the trembling walk saves strength to run, and it makes the walk to the outside caves long. But the scenery blurs as usual, and so the walk is over like that, and without any men to be seen.
I walk into the big cave opening(this cave surrounds the other caves.) into the little cave sanctuary zone. As soon as I do all the men’s heads turn, and they begin gawking and leering, but no swords, knifes, or arrows came out. But meat is more important so I continue walking. I walk, looking for meat to be placed in front of me but no one gives me meat. No one chases me, no one touches me. I decide to go to the big long and tall cave in the middle of the cave sanctuary, I hope there is meat there.
The tall cave is far, much farther than the cave looks, but the cave sanctuary has many turns and twists, and is impossible to navigate. After what felt like many moons, but turned out to be only half a sunrise, and I got to the entrance of the cave, but it was sealed shut. The cave looks impossible to get into. I lightly tap the cave entrance with my snout and I am blinded by a flashing light.
As soon as I exit my daze I frantically look around for men, they have been acting strange this sunrise and that is not good. But there are no men. The men are gone but I can hear the men’s sounds. The sounds men make are strange, they are loud and disagree with each other, they can’t seem to get along, yet something they are so aligned on is chasing me. Why? Well, I asked one too many questions this sunrise so I must go to the men. and even though and I am going to the men, I do have an escape plan, because this cave is very spacious.

I walk to the men, who are gathered along a table, like a string, but there are two strings? One string is made of trees and makes me calm, but the other is made of fire and pain, the men I’m used to. Why? Why are there multiple men? More multiples then I’m used to, and as soon as they see me the fire men leer and the tree men gawk, but the fire men start waving their hands, and the tree men yell with pointing fingers, and the fire men plead, with fists together.
And then, one tree men, with long hair, and scars across their skin, they picked me up and whispered into my ear, I cannot understand, but the message is clear. “It’s ok now.” and I look down through the tree mans armpit, and see a sword, sheathed and un- brandished and I close my eyes, for the first time, knowing I’ll wake up safely.
Note at the end:( if all goes well, a chapter every 2 days maybe? Hopefully? Anyways I want to develop this story pretty far but it’s probably gonna be slow, and for clarification, the Mc doesn’t walk on two legs :).)
