《That Small Library by Dover Street》1. Coffee

She frowns at the smell, flicking her gaze away from the book that she was reading to stare at her most recent bane of existence.
"I thought that this is a library." She calls out, watching him turn around while taking a sip of coffee. "You know, no food and drinks and all that?"
"Not really." He flippantly replies, turning his attention back towards the pocketbook in his hand, "So long as you clean up after yourself, I don't really mind."
Really now.
Her gaze flickers to the small stack of paper cups that dotted the counter, and the remains of wrappers haphazardly stuffed into the used cups. When she glances back towards him again, her gaze only held disappointment.
'Sure...'
"Hey, I'll clean up." He replied in an affronted tone, apparently noticing her stare. Not that it helped him much.
"You work here." She points out, placing down her book on the table and crossing her arms over her chest. "I don't think it sends a good example for anyone who comes here to just see the local librarian snacking while on the job."
"Well lucky for anyone who comes here, I'm not most librarians." He grumbles, plucking the paper cups about his counter while muttering some curses under his breath. She hears the cups being tossed into a trash can, before he glares at her. "There. Happy now, mom?"
"Now if you could keep quiet, things would be so much better..."
"Excuse me?"
She doesn't reply, instead letting out a little chuckle while turning back towards her book. But she could hear a huff coming from him, along with a loud, scraping sound that grated on her ears as he tried to annoy her as much as possible.
Sadly, she was better than that. It was a good attempt, though given how it mostly stopped just a few seconds later, she could safely say that he didn't like the sound as well.
And so the rest of the hours went, with companionable silence filling the air.
