《Bug in this Game》Ch 21 - Nothing is free

His emotions raged when he saw his eyes had somehow changed color. Previously his eyes had been blue like the sea but right now his eyes pupils were completely grey with a thin dark circle surrounding them. At some angles when he turned certain ways he could see and orange reflection from his eyes. They looked just like a grey wolf Alpha's eyes. These eyes gave off a coldhearted and evil feel to anyone looking at them. Anybody would get scared if someone with eyes like Izoke's approached them. He hadn’t even a word to say about how it could have happened. Suddenly he remembered the risk which was mentioned while consuming the core. ‘What the hell, it means my eyes color is the risk that system was mentioning?’ he thought while looking at his eyes in the reflection on the water.
“What…what…This can’t be true?” he shouted because he saw a notification pop up while seeing his reflection on the water.
*Wolf eye curse has been added as a defect on your character, You will be blind for two hours each day during daylight hours. You can log out while the curse activated. In order to delete the curse, you can either obtain another that overrides it or you can reach level 250.*
“Are you joking…Are you joking with me right now! Eyes curse, two hours… Logout. What the f**k.” Izoke shouted in frustration becoming sad because he is going to be blind for two hours a day. The fact about log out made him even angrier.
‘Why did I even accept to consume this damn core? I should have known that in this f**king world nothing is free! Now, I have to suffer from it.’ Izoke thought, putting his hand on his forehead because he was regretting it a lot. 'The prompt says it activates during daylight hours but it could happen at any time. So what do I do if it happens while I'm in a fight?' Izoke asked himself.

After a while, Izoke heard footsteps coming from behind him, he looked over and it was non-other than Sumiko walking toward him. He changed his expression as if nothing had happened, he didn’t want to scare her. He gave a cool smile looking toward her but there was a slight pain in his smile. An unintentional coldness that matched his eyes color that appeared cold as snow. Sumiko picked up on Izoke's failed attempt to hide his pain. Sumiko also replied by giving a cute smile that was either meant to comfort or show pity. Which one it was Izoke was uncertain.
“Are you okay? And your eyes…”
“Yeah, it’s nothing just leave it. Let’s eat some breakfast.” He replied to her and went inside a tent. He began preparing some more meat from his inventory of a deer he killed. Cutting it up on a wooden table in that large tent. At least the players left something useful. He brought the portioned meat out from the tent and went to the campfire to cook it. Using contact flame he quickly lit the campfire. Sumiko was also sitting nearby. “more meat?” She asked.
“Yes, we still have plenty.”
“Where are those people who gave us shelter?”
“They already went on their journey after the battle. They were spooked and decided to leave,” Izoke replied telling a half-truth because he can’t say that they logged out.
“Ohhh”
Izoke speared cubes of the meat onto a green branch he was using as a skewer. Not knowing what a kebab was didn't stop Izoke from making them. Izoke and Sumiko sat near the fire and Sumiko peeked at Izoke eyes, her expression was of confusion because now Izoke looked like a completely different person.
A delicious aroma was coming from the meat making their stomachs growl in anticipation. Izoke took the kabab's away from the fire and handed one of the two to Sumiko. They two kababs were equally packed with delicious meat. Usually, breakfast means light food but right now they are in the forest, so they have to eat anything to survive as long as it contains fuel.

They finished their breakfast within ten minutes. Now, it is time to start their journey to Kalan mountain. Izoke stored some meat that was left in the tent in his inventory and left that place with Sumiko. The mountain can be clearly seen from the forest, it was quite far about 80Km from here. It was a sunny day but the shade of the trees was helping on their journey by protecting them and forest air was the natural fan for them. The path was narrow but Izoke and Sumiko were walking by holding hands and helping each other. The forest was filled with trees with creepy vines….
After walking for a whole 6 hours they arrived at the bank of the river. On another side of the river there was snow all over and the side where Izoke was, filled with greenery. It was quite a rare fantasy scene to watch one side was white and another is green. Kalan mountain was clearly seen from the river, it was a snow mountain. Now the distance was only a few kilometers from the river.
“Look, Izoke there is the Kalan mountain,” Sumiko said to him by pointing the mountain with her finger.
“Yeah…Let me wash my face. I am covered with sweat and you can also rest for a while, then we will cross the river.” Izoke replied and went near the river to wash, Sumiko also went to a big rock and sat there to rest for a while.
Izoke cups his hands in the river and splashes some water onto his face. He sees his face reflected on the water. It has changed a lot, his now grey eyes gave him beast like presence and his face structure was quite matching with his new eyes. (Author: Means he look Sexy J). (Editor: You keep your Wolf fetish to yourself bruh).
Suddenly a red text prompt appeared in his vision flashing to get his attention.

Virtuous Sons
The saying goes that when a man is born the Fates weave his destiny and swaddle him in it. Then one day the man dies, and the swaddle becomes a shroud. Heaven moves on. It is audacity to question the Fates. Olympus is Olympus. The land of men is the land of men. To transgress that, to cross the line of divinity and scale Olympus Mons? To defy the Fates and cast off their threads? That is hubris. It’s a mark that every philosopher bears plainly on their soul. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Leaves of Terranthir
DISCONTINUED - I won't be writing more of this fiction. Check out the latest post for a worlbuilding summary / final thoughts. Leaves of Terranthir is a gamelit blend of ARPG, action, fantasy, and slice of life. It's inspired in part by some of my favourite games, borrowing in themes, sense of exploration, and aesthetics from the Soulsborne and soulslike genre, mixed heavily with arpg itemization from Diablo/PoE style games. While many may remember their Soulslike experiences as nothing more than suffering, I personally loved the sense of progression, to prevail over challenges and monsters that seemed impossible to defeat at first. If any of that seems interesting to you, do check out the first chapter and let me know what you think. Cheers, and thanks for reading. Cover by Baconstrap.
