《Crystal High》Chapter 42: Conversation with Claudius

Via and I were laid up against one of the pillars in the huge warehouse. Our heads lay against one another as the numbness was still present in our bodies. I watched as the people apart of the terrorist group bustled around us, doing various tasks. Scarlett, however, sat in front of us just staring. It’s kind of creeping me out. The low light level helped with the creepy mood too. I asked Via, “How many people do you think are in this terrorist group? Every time I think that’s it more people come out of a tunnel or door somewhere. It’s like they are ants.”
“Maybe they have a cloning machine?” She retorted.
A giggle could be heard coming from the direction of Scarlett. I moved my eyes at her, and her white teeth could be seen forming a smile in the darkness. “You two are funny.” She stated flatly. Via let out a sneer as she responded saying, “Thanks for the compliment.”
Scarlett ignored the retort and told us, “Our organization is living. We are always growing, always finding new members to join our cause. “
Curious about it, I asked her, “And what is your cause exactly?”
As Scarlett opened her mouth to respond to my question, a person covered her mouth before she let anything out. I looked at the figure closely, and I realized that it was Wayno from yesterday. His long fingers wrapped around her entire face as he leaned next to her ear and hissed into it, “Don’t say another word. What are theydoing here?! You had very specific instructions to not go after him. I knew we shouldn’t have brought you along on the Crystal High mission. You are so impulsive. Claudius is not going to like what you did here.”

A voice rang out through the warehouse, and the entire building went quiet at the sound of it. It seemed eerily familiar as it said, “What am I not going to like here? I go away on a scouting trip for a couple of hours and something has already happened? I can’t leave any of you alone for a min…”
It was Claudius. His words trailed off when he saw Via and I sitting there helpless against the pillar. He calmly but menacingly let out, “Scarlett! What did I say about bringing the sagaru here? We will have a conversation about this later, and you will learn to never do something like this again.”
His slender figure walked towards us in the dim light, and it sent a chill down my spine. He bowed to us, and he told us, “I’m terribly sorry for this inconvience. I had no intention of kidnapping either of you.”
“But Scarlett told me that you intended to use me as like a lab rat though, and yesterday you guys said that you are trying to help people like me. What does all of this mean?”
Claudius sighed, and he bent down to my level. His rotten teeth showed, and his mangled scarred face peered into my soul. He told me, “We do need your help to achieve our goals, but we don’t want to force you to do anything. That isn’t what we like to do. I find that people who willingly join us are far more loyal than those who are forced. Our goal is for equality for all which I’m sure you have already heard from the loud-mouthed ginger there. We intend to accomplish this goal by augmenting people’s powers and creating an army of super powered individuals with multiple powers. With a sagaru like you, we would have a clean slate to work with. Usually, we have to work around certain genetics since certain powers won’t work with each other, and nine times out of ten the person won’t be able to use the new power to it’s fullest potential. With you being a sagaru, we believe that we can get the most out of multiple abilities since you don’t have any to block the effects of them. You would be a valuable addition to our organization. You would be appreciated here unlike the way you are at your school now. Even if you manage at the school, the government won’t allow it in the end. They like order and the system. They will abolish anything that goes against it.”

I looked at him, and he seemed sincere even though his physical appearance was jarring. I already made up my mind though. Just by overthrowing the government, it won’t change anything in the end. I also want to prove that everybody has chance to do anything in the system now. I have to show people it is still possible to be successful if you work hard enough. I told Claudius, “I’m sorry, but my answer is still no. You can ask Scarlett for my reasoning behind this.”
Claudius stood up, and turned around towards Scarlett and Wayno. “Well, I will stand by my word. I’m not going to force you to do anything. Wayno get Terry and Bruno down here. You know what to do from there.”
Wayno escaped into the darkness, and Claudius grabbed Scarlett by the arm and shoved her into one of the rooms in the warehouse. Wayno eventually came back with the hulking Bruno and a small kid. The kid walked up to us, and he told Via and I, “Don’t worry this won’t hurt that much. Just make your head fuzzy is all.”
Via and I looked at each other with worried looks, but after that I was unconscious.
