《The Monsters We Become ( dropped??)》Chapter 6 : Something unknown

I awake earlier than yesterday by telling my body clock how long to sleep as I sleep, though a common technique from my old world, I still wake up quite groggily.
I tidy up the mess I made last night by pushing it under the bedding. I then nudge awake Lily and the others.
When Lily she can see my loin cloth. “Hehehehehheeeee, me?” hopping from foot to foot she asks.
I pass her one off the floor, then take off mine and redo it to show her. She does it first time.
“Good Lily.” I tell her while smiling, she beams back at me. Umm she’s quite smart.
The other three come over and I pass them theirs , after a few false starts I go to take off mine again to show them.
“NO. I show.” Lily states. I just nod at her smiling. After a few more attempts they get the hang of it. Lily Is quite smart I think.
During this time I’ve started a work routine I used to do, I need to get used to this body and increase its limitations from an early age, that way I will be able to do more in the long run.
Looking up from one of the stretches, I see the others trying to copy me.Lily has her tongue poking out of her teeth in concentration. Seeing me watching her she smiles at me again.
“ What do, show.” The others nod in agreement.
Trying no to use so many words as not to confuse them. “ I work. Move body… to get…..big faster” at that point I make a walking motion with my fingers and at faster I move them faster. Lily seems to understand the other nod but I’m not sure. “ And not to tire to fast.”

Coral tries to sneak into the room but upon seeing us stops, looking to the bed and then to me, she glares at me*…* I think she was planning to kick me again the bloody bitch.
She then realizes that all of us are wearing loin cloths.
Growling. “ Where you get.” Pointing wildly at the cloths.
“ Brother give.” She proclaims while smirking. I don’t think she likes Coral after seeing me in pain because of her.
Growling again. “ How? Where? Tell now freak.” She demands.
“ I made them from the bedding, last night Coral.” I tell her while revealing the scraps I hide under the bed. I then give her a smile I knew scared people from my life before.
I think it will work even better here as I have a mouthful of sharp teeth.
HAA. I see her visibly startle and take a step back.
*giggle* I see Lily raise her hand in front of her face.
“ WHO Coral.” Coral half shouts in a bid to gain the upper hand again.
Pointing at her “ You.”
She looks confused. “ No. I Tonka.” She declares, puffing out her chest proudly.
Huh so that’s her name.
She shakes her self as she realizes why she here. Glaring at me she leaves the room. “ Follow.”
The others start heading out of the room.
* ……..*
I dodge to the other side of the door as I leave it away from the direction grub room, a foot barely misses me.
“ ARRRGGHH.” Car.. no Tonka rages. “ How, how you do that, me no kick you, you no learn.”
“ Instincts.” I tell her. “ Have I not learned without you kicking me.”

“ …Yes. And you talk like elder, you no learn that, yet do.” She frowns to her self thinking that over.
“ You freak, not gob like….. don’t like.” Tonka proclaims as she heads toward the grub room. “…and no kick I like kick, kick teach gobs…how gobs learn.” She looks over her shoulder. “ …but freak not right, not learn like gob, no kick to learn, not right, not right.” She mutters as we walk. Lily does not look happy, she’s glaring daggers into Tonka’s back.
When we’re in the room Tonka tells us “ Three.” As she’s leaving the room “ Stay I back soon.”
The others look at me expectantly.
*sigh*
I reaching in to the crevasses and pull out two and wave them at the others “ How many.”
The all chime in “ Two.”
“ Good.” I reach into another one a pull out the third one. “ And three.”
In unison they nod, then they retrieve their food.
While munching on my grubs I get another one and put it into my pouch, for after my work out.
I take a better look around the room. I’ve been noticing a lot of web around the place and the walls give off a feeling of being underground, with the torches around the place, there is also luminescent fungus in some rooms like this one. There’s also an under current to the whole place which I haven’t felt before.. how come I’ve never noticed that before.
It kind of permeates the air, actually it feels like its everywhere, I put my hand on the wall, closing my eyes to concentrate my senses, to feel around me and into the wall.
WHAT. The wall contains even more energy. I get the feeling of being watched, I pull away and open my eyes. No , no ones watching me the others are eating their grubs still. I still get the feeling but not as strong, but nothing is setting off my instinctual sense, so what ever it is means no harm. While the feeling is diminishing it still lingers. It’s like and air current around the place. I don’t understand how I never noticed this before.

What the hell was that. It was like the interface system.
“ Brother, what wrong.” Lily asks as she can see me looking around franticly.
Stopping. “ Nothing Lily nothing.” I tell her.
“ Who Lil...Lily.” she asks smiling.
Ahh shit I said her name out loud. “ It’s what I call you in my head.”
*giggle* “ Brother name me... hehehehe. Lily me like.” She nods her head to herself. She then runs over and hugs me. “ what you name.” She inquires.
“ I..I was named Gray.” She leans back looking up at me.
“ Me like Gray, good name, like you skin, yes?” I nod at her answer. She lets go and wonders over to the other three. “ Me call Lily now, brother name Gray.” The other nod.
Tonka stalks back into the room. “ Teach time, follow.”

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

Uke in hand, Wesley made his way to the local branch of the Bard College to pick up a few levels and hit the road to travel the new world. Fortunately for him, whatever Dark Lord he was supposed to duel didn't seem to get the memo and the world seems to be at peace. So it's probably nothing, right? This is the story of Wesley's adventuring party as they do their best to get him to fulfull his destiny. A power-hungry [Rogue], a slightly evil [Cleric], a [Mage] that just wants to go home, and a [Lord] who just wants to study the blade.
