《Taken : New Beginnings》Side Chapter 1 - Earth
Advertisement
On a fateful day in summer, 2016, a strange event occurred worldwide. On that day, normal people the world over stared in shock at the strange, blue windows that appeared in front of their eyes, describing the strange events that were transpiring around them. On that day, all the people earthlings knew who were between 12-18 years of age had mysteriously disappeared, with nothing but the blue windows to explain.
At around mid-morning, mere moments before the windows appeared, a sudden flash of light, even indoors, shocked the people of Earth, waking them, or causing them to pay shocked attention to the windows. In addition, those who looked outside on that day, would claim to have seen strange crystal formations hanging in the sky, from which the penetrating light shot from. The crystal formations hung in the sky for a full 24-hour period, before emitting another final flash, and fading into the sky.
Scientists the world round were puzzling on how this was even possible, or mourning the sudden disappearance of their children. Religious groups took the event to prove the existence of their gods or goddesses, and conspiracy theorists claimed that it was all just a government ran plot to usurp the peace.
The strange formations were observed to be emitting forms of... something which was measurable with modern equipment, but yet completely different to anything ever seen before - perhaps the cause of the upheaval, with many people claiming to have being able to feel it themselves at the time.
Overall, the disappearance of teenagers the world over caused the greatest impact, with large amounts of personal assets going unclaimable due to combinations of law and protesters, parents grieving, fearing that their loss was final, and businesses and schools collapsing around the disappearance. With high schools almost empty, and no teenagers of age to fill jobs many shops needed to be done, employment demand soared to new heights, for those who could adapt to this change, and some jobs and industries temporarily collapsed, waiting for children to grow to the required age to fill placements in schools, for example. Due to this, people were fired from their jobs at a similar rate to unemployment, causing both stability and instability in communities.

That fateful day forever changed the people of Earth, and would be remembered with disbelief, horror, and sadness when looking back, not to mention the day a new enemy was created in the hearts of humanity as a whole...

System Change
Years ago, Earth was indoctrinated into the "System." Earth was not the only place with the System, however. With the System came the other races, Invaders. The Invaders had one goal, to obtain ownership of this new habitable planet. This created a bloodbath, and for years the war raged. This didn't really have much to do with Derek. Derek was kind of a loner. Yeah, he enjoyed the occasional chat or drink with others, but he never stayed in one place too long or really got to know anybody new. Derek did happen to be rather strong. After the years of fighting monster and Invaders alone, he had become quite adept at surviving. One thing that helped keep him alive was his refusal to get involved with others. He rarely cooperated with teams. One day, Derek broke his rules and decided to lend some help, as the mission didn't seem too hard. He should have stuck to being alone. Hey everyone, this is my fiction, "System Change." It's the first time I've really tried to write a serial. All feedback is really appreciated. I plan to release chapters every Tuesday and Thursday. With occasional extra chapters being released. I will try to maintain a word count between 1500-2500 words per chapter. Thank you! I just made a Discord if anyone wants to join.

Demons Don't Lie
Algier, average human and recent convict, has committed the gravest sin of all: demon slaying. His fate? To participate in the Culling, a battle-royale style tournament that’s televised live to the world, where all the worst criminals go to die. As with all tournaments, a prize is on the line. If Algier survives, he can have any wish granted by the Marquises, the new rulers of Earth following the demons’ invasion. However, there’s little hope for survival in a tournament designed to have demons do the work of the executioner, especially for a human. Demons are stronger, faster, wiser, and more talented than the average human, and, despite his crime, Algier is no demon hunter. Mentally defeated before the tournament even begins, Algier is torn between becoming another demon’s points and fighting on in his dead mother’s legacy. But should he choose to fight, there is one advantage that Algier has that can tip the odds in his favour: Demons don’t lie, but humans can. How to read this story Demons Don't Lie is written from the perspective of an unreliable (lying) narrator. There are many inconsistencies within the story which are placed there intentionally. It's up to the reader to decide what is the truth and what is the lie. Promotion Full quality cover image

Willful Body
A colossal mountain towers above the clouds. Howls and roars reverbate throughout the mountain. On the mountain peak, two men stand silently face each other. One wears a cloak and wields a revolver with mystical runes glowing on its barrel. The other is bare chested and holds a great sword as large as his giant figure. The man with the gun points it at the other man. "Cayden, as one of your friends. Please make this easy for me and turn yourself in." The large man's eyes waver for a second before they quickly recompose themselves. "Come on then. Try to take me," The large man rushes towards the man in the cloak swinging his great sword down as he approaches. The man in the cloak sighs, aims his gun, and fires.
