《Life of the dark god》Chapter 25 Between life and death

Stab.
That is what kindness in a serious situation leads to, I thought. The reward I got from trying to save them was that they would try to kill me? Wait, I clearly heard that Matt stabbed me but why couldn’t I feel any pain? Was I dead instantly and already in heaven, not that there was one? No I don’t think that my body would be that weak, I mean I was stabbed in my chest before and managed to survive somehow.
When I turned around, I got to know the answer the hard way. A lot of blood was spreading alongside the floor and on my clothes, as Kylie, who tried to save me with her body, coughed up a lot of blood. The heavy sword pierced through her body. I needed to pull out the sword and treat the wound as fast as possible or she would die. My mouth was open and only incomplete words could leave it.
“You… wh…”(Me)
I didn’t want my first companion to die right before me, but I couldn’t move an inch.
No, I didn’t want Kylie to die.
The stab from the big heavy sword, dealt a lot of damage to her body. 1/4th of her upper body was penetrated by the weapon. I stood there with my eyes wide open. Kylie needed to cough up blood again before I came back to my senses and tried to save her. I reacted quickly, moved behind her and pulled the sword out of her. I picked her up and carried her in my arms. I needed to flee with her because I wouldn’t be able to treat her in an environment where so many people would try to kill us.
My path to the nearest tunnel got obstructed by James and other humans. I couldn’t turn around and run in the other way because Matt and Rose were there. The tunnel we came from was also guarded heavily now.
“Now you can’t flee anywhere. Be a good boy, put the girl down and fight me one more time, so I can forget that disgrace of a loss.”(James)
“James focus on killing them so they can’t hinder us any further!”(Human leader)
I didn’t listen to anything they said, I had a much bigger problem. I only focused on Kylie who was at death’s door. I could hear her heartbeat getting slower and slower. I wasn’t able to think clearly anymore as I knew she would die soon.

I put every thinking and reasoning aside and just moved forward.
“Hey, didn’t you hear me? You won’t be able to get out of here alive anyway, so just fight me in a 1 vs 1.”(James)
I didn’t slow down my speed. I even increased it more and was running to the nearest tunnel which led to the exit. Even though, a lot of enemies were standing in front of me, I didn’t waver. I couldn’t lose any second or else Kylie could die.
“If you don’t want to listen and fight me than just die.”(James)
When he said that, he swung down his sword. Some of the humans were smiling and thought that I would fall. His sword sliced my back and I received a huge wound. Blood was flowing out of it nonstop. I felt the pain but I couldn’t care less as my friend was dying in my hands.
I continued to run to the exit.
“Don’t just stand there and watch, kill them.”(Human leader)
Every time I took a step, Kylie and I lost some blood. To prevent us from further advancing, all of the humans attacked us now. Some of them with swords and the others threw magic at us. I focused all I had in running and defending Kylie from attacks. I ignored the state of my body completely.
With only my will to save Kylie alone, I kept moving. We almost reached the tunnel. On my way there, I received a lot of wounds. My whole body was covered with blood. But I didn’t care at all. I only focused on bringing Kylie out of there. When we barely reached the exit, I stopped because of a sudden shout.
“You won’t be able to save her even when you escape, so just give it up. I enchanted the sword with the spell [Hell Flare] which will slowly burn her from the inside! The spell is strong enough to kill even you in a matter of time.”(Rose)
I stopped in front of the tunnel for the second. With a voice filled with bloodlust, anger and sadness, I asked her only 1 last question.
“Why?!”(Me)
Everyone was silent to hear her reasoning.
“Secret.”(Rose)
She said and I clearly saw her smiling. I was filled with so much rage, that I wanted to kill everyone present, but I needed to hurry and save Kylie. I went into the tunnel and ran. For the first few minutes, I got bombarded by some more magic attacks but after a while, they stopped following us.

When I made sure that no one was coming after us, I put Kylie down and did my best to treat her injury. When I covered the wound with some clothing, the bleeding stopped. She had her eyes wide open and breathed even slower now. I was closing my eyes and only hoping.
“Hey Hikaru are you there?”(Kylie)
She said weak. She was so weak that she could barely see anymore.
“Yes. Stop talking, you need to rest. Everything will be fine.”(Me)
I was sad, I barely managed to say that one sentence.
“It is already too late for me. I would have died someday anyway. Whether this time is now or later doesn’t matter to me. What is important now isn’t me, it is you. If you don’t know what you should do from now on, remember me by opening the bag I gave you in the capital, it may give you a path to walk in the future.”(Kylie)
She said. We both knew she didn’t have much time left. It was silent until she couldn’t keep quiet anymore.
“That was actually all I was supposed to say, but I can’t hold back now. Thank you for all you did for me. I had so much fun travelling with you that I just want to continue with it. Now that I will die I won’t keep silent about how I feel so listen. It always annoyed me that you were so cold to others, at least I succeeded to change you a bit. When you changed and started to trust others, open up for others, I kind of started feeling something towards you. You know, it is called love, and you have to treasure it if you can in the future. I won’t be there for you anymore.”(Kylie)
She said smiling. Even if she could only barely see me I smiled back at her. But that smile came from my heart. She coughed up some blood again, before continuing.
“I actually don’t want to die. I am even afraid to die, but it can’t be prevented now. Before I go, I owe you a big sorry for earlier, do I not?”(Kylie)
She said jokingly but I noticed, that she talked slower and needed a lot of time to finish her sentences, but I listened to every single word she said and would remember everything she said.
“Live your own life and go your own ways. My last wish is only, that …you don’t forget ab…out…m…e.”(Kylie)
With barely finishing her last sentence, she died in front of my eyes. She lied there with no movements. She stopped breathing and her heart stopped beating. On her face, I could see a wide smile and a lot of tears which flowed down.
I was looking at the dead body of the person who changed me, who I was emotionally attached to. My only friend for the past years.
I looked at her dead body and wanted to close her eyes so she could rest in peace. When my hand reached her face, I felt heat coming from within her. I pulled away my hand and looked at her. From her inside, fire was bursting out. At first only a little but the flame got hotter and bigger.
Suddenly it exploded, leaving behind a cross of fire in the air and nothing of Kylie.
I stood in front of the fire cross. Not moving, only looking.
My best friend, or perhaps even my love, died in front of my eyes. I wasn’t able to save her. I wasn’t able to save a dear person to me again. But what made it worse was, that she didn’t get her deserved rest, no after her death a spell destroyed her whole body. She died much too young.
Why was the world so unfair? There was no one who answered me.
