《The Divine Mortal》Chapter 17: Sadness

The woman pondered deeply for a moment, and then she shook her head while a cold glow flashed in her eyes as she said to Roy, “Come, follow me.”
Who is this girl? 'he' wondered, glancing at her.
Not only was the woman so young, she was even a beautiful female.
The woman wore a red, skintight dress and it outlined her alluring curves. Especially under the dress, there were two straight, snow-white legs, and it could be said that they were perfect.
...
Late at night.
Roy's eyes were a bit red from sadness and his figure was kneeling on the ground. His overbearing atmosphere from before was no more.
In front of him lay a freshly dug but untidy grave. The bloody streaks on Old Wang's body had been washed clean and he was lain on a grass mat, peacefully lying inside the grave.
"Young man, Roy, although we were strangers that met by chance, that too is fate. I will henceforth leave to you a gift from my ancestor which has been passed down for hundreds of years. It is no more than a piece of scrap metal, but my father has always told me to continue to pass it down. I have never had a wife or a child and thus I will gift to you this treasure."
"When I arrive at the Yellow Springs.."
"This piece of scrap metal.. you will at least own yet another memory..."
Roy glanced at his hand, his eyes fixated on a necklace covered in fresh blood.
He remembered that this necklace was worn by the old man, a strange something held by a red thread around his neck the first time they met. This object was a two-inch-long metal rod. At the two edges, it was gold in color and felt like it was made of gold. In the middle, it was black and seemed to be made of black metal.

Roy caressed the now blood-covered object with utmost care.
After which, Roy touched the red string necklace that held the metal, looped the necklace around his neck, and letting it rest on his chest. After kowtowing thrice, he filled the grave up and marked it with a wooden tombstone: "Grave of the Supreme Sword Sect Retainer, Wang"
Roy had only known of Old Wang's mortal title when they chatted while lying on the azure rock.
"This Roy will guard your grave for seven days and seven nights."
It was said that after Marja Moon had heard of this situation, she even scolded many people present at that time, including Doko Joke and also Roy. Then, she let Roy bury Old Wang and ensured that he would take those days off.
At night, Roy leaned against a tree trunk, staring at the starry sky.
This was actually the first night in which he stayed at Supreme Sword Sect.
Everything was quiet and still.
"..."
"To think that the first nice person that I met ended up dying.." he sighed softly, "all because of me.."
These feeling of loss brought sharp and tingling pain. The pain was especially unbearable He gritted his teeth and endured.
Roy laid down on the ground as he stared the into the night sky, watching the beautiful moon and pondered the meaning of life.
"What is going on with my body exactly?" Roy remembered that he had constantly blacked out on a few occasions, without retaining any memory.
With the sky as his blanket and the ground as his bed, he fell asleep.
In his dreams, he dreamed of a gigantic pillar that stretched into the skies.
That gigantic pillar soared into the clouds, its tip directly stabbing into the heavens while its bottom was impaled into the bottomless earth. It looked both majestic and tyrannical. It was wreathed in immortal mist while the entire pillar shined with golden light. It was truly a shocking sight!

On it were several large words.
"!"
Each word, when read, weighed upon Roy's head like a mountain.
It was truly mind-blowing. Too mind-blowing!
"What is this heavenly pillar? Just what is it?" Roy could not tell if he was in a dream or reality.
Bang!
Immediately after, the five words on the pillar changed, transforming into countless smaller letters. When examined, it couldn't be read. However, Roy tried multiple times but still couldn't read the contents.
Below these words could be seen a chant with over 10,000 words.
"I am the Divine Domain's Great Lord."
"The Divine Sealing Sun Locking Moon Anubis! Fated one, accept this legacy and defy the heavens and destroy the hells!"
A boundless, tyrannical, and penetrating voice reverberated within Roy's mind~
Kak!
Roy was so frightened he was shocked awake. It turned out it was only a dream... The sky was already bright and the scorching sun had already risen near its zenith.
Roy was still feeling dazed by that stunning dream.
That giant, sky-reaching pillar, the unreadable inscription, and those words that were spoken. They were too domineering. Too shocking. Roy's mind was still reeling in shock.
"Where is the necklace?"
Roy uttered as he stared at his chest with much astonishment. He then realized that although the red string was still around his neck, the small piece of metal that it was strung to was gone.
"It might have dropped somewhere, I'll go search." he got up and began the search.
Roy wandered aimlessly around the servant’s residence, following the roads paved with azure stone.
As he walked, Roy encountered many servants of the Poro Peak, many of which Roy had never seen before.
Regardless of whether it was a new person or an old person, their expressions were pretty much always ones of disregard when they saw him. Of course, all of it was attributed to him being a mere mortal, every servant had sensed that this young man's body was devoid of spiritual qi.
He searched for quite a while but couldn’t find anything. That little piece of metal had completely disappeared. Afterwards, as he collapsed on the ground in tiredness.
Roy let out a bitter smile.
"I'm sorry Uncle Wang, it seems that I've lost it" he muttered softly to himself.
Roy was exhausted after that search.
"Uncle Wang, I'll head back first. I promise to search it again after I'm done organizing things." he said to Old Wang's grave.
The place they were at was not too far from his wooden house. It was just a small hill away.

The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody
[participant in the 2018 NaNoWriMo Royal Road challenge] The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody is a LitRPG system story where each person transitions into the system, or SCHEMA as this system is known, innocent and unaware of his former life. Following the tutorial, memories return, but by this point, each person has a better chance of accepting their new world. It also gives them an opportunity to start from scratch, fresh without all the baggage of their former lives dictating their decisions in the early stages of the process. I don’t expect this will necessarily turn into an action-packed heroic tale, my intent is to create a character who wants to have just an ordinary, but reasonably comfortable life. I don’t know myself how well he will succeed, there may be twists and Tom may discover some heroism hidden deep inside. I guess we’ll find out together. This is my first writing attempt. I’ve wanted to write all my life, but I’ve never been able to develop the proper discipline to put in the work. I hope I complete the challenge and work my way past this hump. I am writing this as part of the NaNoWriMo Royal Road Challenge. While I will try to self-edit as I go, the challenge requires close to 2,000 words a day, so parts of the story may be rough, and things like plot lines may not make as much sense as any of us would like. If all goes well, and I complete the challenge, I plan on going back through everything and trying to polish it up. In the meanwhile, thank you for reading and I hope I don’t disappoint.
