Chapter 12: Chevalier Unit
Rudolf Azregon
Dragon Knight Academy.
The classroom has been awfully quiet as our professor writes down formulas of Magical Physics on the board. Everyone is quietly writing on their notebook, copying the wall of numbers on the board. I’m bored, so I refused to do what the majority does. I leaned back on my seat and gazed in the window. Then I shifted it to my seatmate, Amphere, who was in his deep daydream. He’s just staring at his pen creepily.
It’s been two days when the registration for the Dragon Knight’s Tournament became messy due to a masked man who named himself Black Phantom. During that chaos, Amphere and his dragonoid chased the culprit but they failed. Their loss troubled Amphere for these past two days. He’s often lost in thought.
“Hey, whazzup?” I patted his shoulder. He jolted in shock and dropped the pen on the ground.
“W-What?” He gave off this angry stare at me.
“You have been out of the real world lately. Is something troubling you?”
He picked his pen up and then pressed the soft end of it in his forehead like he’s calculating something on his mind. Then he spoke “Not that of a big deal, but…Have you ever heard of the Crimson Dragonfly?”
“I have no friggin idea.” I shook my head. “Why?”
“It’s nothing.” He held his silence for the rest of the hour. He’s lying. This Crimson Dragonfly thing is a big deal for him. It won’t occupy his thought if it wasn’t.
When our classes ended, we rendezvous with our fellow dragonoids. The Dragon Knight Academy is holding separate classes for knights and dragonoids, but we’re basically learning the same subjects. Even our teachers are the same!
In my personal opinion, having our dragonoids beside us will make the learning part of the classroom fun. But because dragonoids are treated like animals in our society, there is no option but to go with the flow.
No big deal. The classes have ended. Kyrie and I can have all the free time we want!

“What’re you planning? You two seem awfully happy, totally!” Airelina asked me and Kyrie.
“Where going on a date~” I proudly held my hips with a smile on my face. Kyrie’s face began to blush as she shyly pinch my shoulder. She kept muttering “Don’t say that, it’s embarrassing!” on me.
“D-D-Date!? T-Totally!?” Airelina’s face reddened too. She looked at the pokerfaced Amphere then she sulked and slurred. “Well, that’s how a hundred compatibility rate for you… I’m actually jealous, totally…”
“We have to treat your wounds first.” Amphere scolded coldly. It makes sense, because Airelina has been acting strangely after they fought the Black Phantom. Sometimes, Airelina’s body parts would stop working. Just like yesterday’s event, she collapses in every five friggin minutes. She can’t even use her wings properly, and she can’t hide her tail anymore.
“D-Don’t you mean you’re going to send me to Croft again!?Like, totally!?” Airelina held a frightened face. “I don’t want to! Totally! She’s going to experiment in my body again!”
“Who is this Croft?” I whispered to Amphere.
“Croft is a friend of Duchess Corasell. She’s not a doctor, but her father’s uncle’s son’s friend is an expert at dragonoid medicines.”
“You know what they call that!?” Airelina shouted at Amphere’s left ear. “A total stranger! Totally! I won’t let that woman touch my body ever again!”
“Stop whining and let’s go already!” Amphere grabbed his dragonoid’s tail while Airelina impaled her fingers on the soft ground to resist. She really looked like a scaredy cat. Amphere is a lot more powerful at this point so he successfully dragged Airelina out of the scene. She left a set of long scratch marks on the earth.
Those two never fail to amuse me. Their relationship is a lot more developed than friends, but it is slightly lesser than lovers. I know they treat each other with love and care just how I treat my dear Kyrie. I know that Airelina love love loves Amphere very much; the only thing is Amphere is oblivious enough to ignore all those signs.

There is no written rule that a romantic relationship between humans and dragonoids are forbidden, but humans will easily judge and despise you. That’s how society works.
We are walking hand by hand with Kyrie as we reached the gate. The scene is always like this whenever our class ends. Everyday we would grab a lot of attention from teachers, knights, and dragonoids. Some nobles would think poorly and disgusted at me for loving a dragonoid but I don’t care what they say. All I care is to be with Kyrie.
This time, as we reached the gate, a tall man with a long black hair grabbed my attention. He has this chilling gaze at me but I know he meant no harm. He is wearing a blue military tux with the sigil of a shield and wings on his back. It is indeed a uniform of a glorified Knight General. He is…
“General Kyle Leviticus.”
“Good day, Sir Rudolf Azregon.” He made a smile. What would a heroic knight like him want to do with me? Before I could ask that, he reached his vest and showed me a sealed letter. “You have been invited by the Chevalier Unit.”
Our date was moved to the other day as we followed the General to the headquarters of the Chevalier Unit inside the Academy. The Chevalier Unit is an elite group of people formed by the hero Kyle Leviticus. Everyone, including me, dreamt of being a part of his team. Working with him will prove a lot of honor in a dragon knight.
As we entered the headquarters, I saw his team members. One is a brown-haired man who is keeping his gaze at us while relaxing on his desk. Beside him is a silver-haired dragonoid who has several bandages on her body that she looked lika a mummy! That dragonoid’s condition is awful!
There was a beautiful woman with blonde hair. I very much know this woman because I’ve seen her before. She is the famous student council president, and is the model Reina Stephanie Fleuret. She is with her female dragonoid Eva; a girl wearing a magical girl outfit.
As Kyrie and I nervously sat in the front seat, a astoundingly beautiful dragonoid woman entered the room. It is the blonde beauty Elumina, Kyle Leviticus’ dragonoid. She stood beside Kyle, who was preparing a presentation in front.
This is the Chevalier Unit. There are only six members as of now, but their abilities are top-notch!
“I have seen your abilities as a Dragon Knight, Sir Azregon. And now I have a ridiculous offer for you.” The General smiled at me. “I have decided to recruit you in my team for one easy condition.”
“…” Kyrie and I behaved as we gulped. This is an ultimate opportunity indeed!
The monitor flashed two faces. One is the face of Sir Estoff Wraith, and the other is the face of Duchess Marieflorine Corasell. Elumina handed us folders full of papers. The folders are labled “Confidential File: Arcadia” Then the general spoke again.
“These two people are suspected of being involved in the terrorist group Arcadia. You already know them because they are close friends with your best friend; Sir Amphere Harrison. But don’t be deceived; they might be plotting something which we do not know about. I know that this is ridiculous but your best friend’s life is in danger if ever it was proven that they are involved with the terrorist group. So I want you to investigate them and report to me in a daily basis.”
This is a win-win situation. All I have to do and investigate. I also have to see if their allegations were true. My job here might save my best friend one day if General Leviticus’ hypothesis is accurate. And this is such a ludicrous offer that I can’t refuse.
“So…”
“I accept.”

Mage Among Superheroes
Turlough is a mage. He also happens to be an orc, generally lauded as being less intelligent than humans. He was unfortunately born with the Curse of the Barbarian, meaning that he can’t level up except through combat- which greatly hinders his ability to show he can be a proper mage. In a world with necromancers, dragons, invading armies, and all sorts of other monsters he would still be able to advance quickly, but unfortuantely… that world is not his world. An unprecedented peace reigns across the land, and in the last several decades there’s been little use for people capable of fighting- and thus little reason for people to fight him. So when he sees a portal in his master’s study he takes it, hoping to find a horde of demons or something equally foolish to combat at low level. But instead he ends up in a strange city full of skyscrapers and people running around in colorful outfits. Superheroes- and of course supervillains as well. What dangers and opportunities could await him in such a strange and unfamiliar world? Only time will tell. Inspired by many things in the superhero genre, and Super Minion specifically- though while the setting will share some standard elements, it is an original setting that will hopefully be as engaging as many of the other universes. Schedule: One chapter each Monday/Thursday, approx. 2000 words.

Two And A Half Deadmen
Silver-Spruce is a very strange and very haunted town. Ghosts inhabit its buildings and walk its streets. Some of them friendly and sane. Some of them not so much. Alder helps ghosts. Helps them fulfill their last requests so they can move on to whatever comes next. Sometimes the ghosts aren't so friendly and have to be moved on by force. Alder does that as well. And he's gotten rather good at it too. After a particularly rough exorcism, he finds himself following a strange ghost to a local tourist attraction. And while Alder never means to find himself caught up in chaos, monsters, magic, and mayhem always seem to have a way of finding him. You want more specifics for what you're reading? Here you go: This is Urban-fantasy but a little bit of a different spin. Often the protagonists in such stories tend to be the bigger fish in their world, or at least far from small fry. Be they legendary boogie men or badass wizards (which is in no way a bad thing, I love a lot of those stories.) But I thought it would be fun to have a protagonist who's far closer to the bottom end of the scale. He has some magic, and it's potent in its own way. But he isn't the big dog or a fighting machine. Outside of his bubble of influence, our protagonist is essentially a normal human as far as powers are concerned. And while you should be warned that this story will get dark in some places it's (hopefully) balanced out by humor and the lighter stuff. I'm not sure how to end this synopsis section so I'll just say bye. Bye!

They Who Hunt the Forest
As a rule of nature, breaking a wave before it peaks halts and disperses built-up energy. Unfortunately, Fate doesn't play by the rules of nature. The cost of a Fourth war: an equal number of lives, a thousand thousand generations of lost futures, and one infinitely unspeakably tortured soul of a child never given chance to be one. Or, the one where some power-hungry immorals decided to put the words "bijuu," infinite," "natural energy," and "psuedo" together in one sentence, not necessarily in that order. Little Devil
Samael has lived her entire life in what most people would call Hell... because it is! Fire, brimstone, demons, orgies of sins, pitchforks, and tortured souls—all that good stuff. But Samael is clueless about any of that. Her time was spent in the deepest reaches of Tartarus, living as a wandering hermit with her devil father and the occasional visit of a naggy angel aunt. Meanwhile, Sophia lives a peaceful life as a young priestess on a sacred island, mostly ignored by the world at large. However, as her day is taking a turn for the absolute worst, an unexpected ally will stumble into her path and completely turn her peaceful existence over its head.
