Chapter 21: Blackmail
Airelina Frembell
It was early in the morning already, but Amphy is not in the verge of waking up. Reina already dropped by in the morning and fetched Emy a few moments ago. So the two of us are alone again, in this room, in the same bed.
I lifted his head and lay it down on my lap. I have heard that guys like Amphy likes this much, maybe because it’s comfortable. What’s more is that my legs are totally shiny, totally appropriate for Amphy’s fetishes. I don’t want to seduce him, but I have to win his trust back. He has been doubting me ever since we fought the Black Phantom…or Alder Windstrafe originally.
Slowly, Amphy’s eyes opened. The first thing he saw in this beautiful morning is my adorable smile.
“Good morning, Amphy~”
“U-Uwaaaa!” He hollered, then made a hard karate chop on my forehead. I made a strange cute noise because of his painful attack. But that didn’t lift his mood. Instead, I made him more upset. “What the heck are you doing, desu!?”
I held my red lumped forehead and projected the cutest pitiful face possible. “I-I was trying to win your trust, totally!”
“Well that didn’t win any of my trust, desu.” He glared at me and crossed his arms. Wait, there’s something wrong.
“Desu?” I tilted my head.
Suddenly, Amphy stood up away from the bed. He was still wearing his pajamas, but he’s now fully charged more than I do. What’s with the change of personality, totally!?
“Well, I just realized that my ‘Metal Rocks’ T-shirt won’t add some personality on me so I decided to change my speech pattern and start the morning hyperactively, just like what you do!”
I…I don’t have any word for his foolishness. I held out a soft chuckle. So he was still bothered by his boringness and lack of personality. He’s always trying so hard to change himself, in a ridiculous manner. Maybe that’s why I love him. Totally.

“Stop blushing like that, we’re going to be late in class desu!” He scrunched.
Oh yes. This is our regular school day. The next round of the tournament will be held a week later the elimination round, so those things are out of our minds for a brief moment. Classes are also important. These are necessary to attain a promotion. Right now, Amphy is a Dragon Knight 2nd Class. One more year until he will get promoted to 1st class and finally graduate. Then, if one of the five Pentagram Knights retire, Estoff will recommend him to the royal family to fill up the position.
Of course, winning the tournament will skip all those processes. Once he gets the title of the Princess’ Guard, he can finally have the bill signed by the princess. Though everything is just a matter of chance, this is the right peaceful way.
If we fail, then maybe a war will outbreak. And we don’t want that to happen. That is why Arcadia has been inactive for years.
The day went on smoothly and peacefully. I waited for Amphy in the front gate of the academy. We always do this every afternoon together with Kyrie and Rudolf, but it seems like the other two are busy on some sort of things. It works on my favor because I wanted to treat Amphy to a café. I’ll try to talk about all the things that have been bugging Amphy’s head. I’ll try to win his trust again without exposing my secret.
“How’s your class?” I asked at Amphy when we finally met.
“My classmates mistake me for a weabo.” He said it with a smile but in a tired expression. “I’ll drop desu from now on…”He sighed heavily.
I forced a smile. Well, his classmates are totally right.
“Well then, shall we go?”
“Waiiiiiiit!!!” There was someone shouting from a distance. It was Rudolf and Kyrie, running towards us. “Amphere! You have to look at this!”

What a really good timing.
The ending result is that we ended up in the café as planned, but including those two. Well a double date is totally okay for me, but I can’t talk about Amphere’s thoughts if Rudolf and Kyrie is on the way.
There are four teacups for all four of us in the table. Kyrie is busy sipping her tea, as well as Amphere. Rudolf’s expression is quite distasteful, specially the way he stares at me. He looks at me with contempt. I can sense that there’s something off this guy.
Wait… Rudolf is with the Chevalier Unit, which is led by that devil Kyle Leviticus. He is with Alder and Reina. Kyle Leviticus knows that I am a key member of Arcadia. That demon might have said it to Alder, which is why he knows a lot of things. I don’t know what happened to Alder and Emy, but his gaze. I know he’s about to blow something up.
“Um, Amphere…I asked your attention because I have found something.” Rudolf finally talked.
“About what?” Amphere said.
“About the information you’re looking for…The Crimson Dragonfly.” Rudolf reached the pocket of his jacket and revealed a photo.
My face froze. There’s no way… They have found me! I’m done! If Amphere knows everything about it…all my dreams…all dragonoid’s dreams…are completely gone. I have to stop it. I have to stop Rudolf from spewing nonsense to Amphy! Do I have to kill him!? No, Kyrie is totally on guard. She might be drinking her tea, but I can sense her gaze to me. A killing intent. One finger I move, and a battle will broke out.
“This is…” Amphere looked closer at the photo. “The Crimson Dragonfly?”
It is a gigantic dragon with steel plates all over its body, similar to a Futuretech Dragon. The only weird difference is the four red crimson wings that looked like a blazing fire on its back. There is no way that it is a Futuretech Dragon given that its size is compared to tall buildings. It might be seventy meters high.
“It’s a Monolith Dragon.” Rudolf grinned. “I’m going to tell you a lot from the Crimson Dragonfly for one condition.”
Amphy looked at me, and then looked seriously at Rudolf. Rudolf’s lips slowly moved, at least from my perspective.
“Join the Chevalier Unit.”
“I’m sorry I don’t want to.” Amphere immediately answered. Rudolf looked like a rejected man on a confession. “I don’t like General Kyle a bit.”
“Well then…” Kyrie and Rudolf stood up. I readied my mental state for combat. I have predicted that a battle will be an inevitable result in this negotiation, but Rudolf spoke again. “I’ve known you for a lifetime, Amphere. You will stick to your decision to the very end… But let me tell you this…Be careful on whom you trust. Because in my perspective, you’re on the wrong side.”
“Haha.” Amphy made a fake laugh. “I’m sorry, but I was just about to tell make an oath to Airi that I won’t be touching that Crimson Dragonfly subject anymore, since it’s ruining our relationship. It’s been affecting the two of us in a big deal, and I realized that I wanted some peace. I hope you understand…”
Then the two left. Amphere sipped his green tea peacefully, and I… I exhaled a lot of carbon dioxide. I can’t believe that nothing happened between the two.
But I know that the next time I meet Rudolf and Kyrie…
It will be in the battlefield.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
