hello, my name is Kohaku Tamaki I live in the peaceful yet never quite peaceful Kushigakure. what I mean by peaceful yet. not never quite peaceful is that it is nearly always hot meaning that when there is rain people become desperate to the point of stealing other people's water supplies while the owners are gathering water for the upcoming drought

I live in the southern region of this village with my parent, grandpa, two brothers and sister I'm currently the youngest but my mom is pregnant and is going to give birth to a baby boy who I heard will be named Shiro meaning ' fourth son '

that's probably the best name so far in our family in case you don't know, my name, Kohaku means ' maple ' as in maple syrup which I couldn't agree more with I love maple syrup more than I love vegetables because let's be honest nobody likes vegetables

" Kohaku, hey Kohaku, " I looked and saw Sadao kurosuchi my best friend and only friend not that I'm not nice or anything but he is literally the only kid in the southern region, besides me of course, of Kushigakure because from the age of fourteen you are sent to the central region to farm for the village and are allowed to come back at the age of 45

" don't worry even if we get caught they'll never catch us, " I said not dropping the smile

" what if he's there? " my best friend asked while looking around as if looking for someone

As we got to the place we saw here the evil woman the one that we had been planning to prank half of our lives. We had been coming here to set up the Prank every day that's why we nearly got caught yesterday All we had left to do was set up the finishing touches and it was ready

We looked at each other then nodded with determination clear in our eyes. We ran around the house to the dog house. as we saw the dog house we started to slow down and were on our tippy toes as the dog looked up we fell onto our stomachs and crawled then stood up again after and finished after a few tries

when we got to the other side we opened our bags and took out braai coal we had taken before coming here then opened a metal trap door put the coal inside and ran away the other side the dog house was while laughing

" We did one more day before we can get our revenge! " Sadao said first

" I know I can't wait until tomorrow " I quickly replied

when we got to our best friend mountain we had already calmed down

we layed on our backs and just stared up at the sky

I lost my smile pretty quickly while thinking about my past and more so my future

" you okay guy? " he asked still looking at the sky

" Yeah, just thinking about my life and future " I replied getting up onto my but too look at him not letting him say anything I asked

" hey, Sadao do you think we will ever be free of this cycle? " he's smile dropped a bit before regaining pretty quickly

" what cycle? " he pretended to not know still looking up

" The cycle of..... work " I could see that he was feeling down after that question but still kept his smile and there was a reason for that

" I.......... don't know, " he said his smile disappearing and not coming back He was turning fourteen in a couple of months and I don't think he's looking forward to it
