《Lord of the Red Castle》Chapter 7 – Planting the seed!

“Let's start our first lesson with the differences between Mages and Cultivators, and how to become a mage.”
Doran was listening intently, giving Maverick his full attention.
“Even though mages and cultivators use mana to become stronger, the way they are used is quite different. Mages can use their will to manipulate the surrounding mana as they wish. They do this with the mana seed they plant in the brain.”
Doran didn't quite understand what was said.
"Metaphorically, isn't it?" he said, smiling.
“No, it really acts like a seed. As this mana seed grows, its blue roots envelop and surround the brain. This seed allows Mages to control the surrounding mana. Also, increase intellectual capacity ”
Doran tried to digest this absurd explanation.
“How is this … the seed sown?”
Maverick was amused. He continued to speak.
“As people who are qualified to become mages try and force themself to move mana, it appears spontaneously. These roots work just like a muscle. The more you tire them, the more they get bigger and stronger. This is where layers come into play. These roots enter a period of stagnation at certain levels. And when you can pass, this period ends and it enters a period of rapid growth.”
Doran tried to make sense of what had happened. As strange as it may seem, he thought he had the root of the matter. Then he thought of cultivators.
“And cultivators, do they plant seeds too?”
“For them, the situation is a little different. A Mage only needs to be mana proficient to evolve, while Cultivators need to follow specific methods. These methods are called 'development techniques'. These 'development techniques' determine how far he can go on the cultivator's path.”
“Your father probably reserved the Lewis family method for you. Talk to him about it after class.”

Let's come to the main topic of today's lesson, although there are a few methods to plant the mana seed in the brain, I will tell you the most common.
“Close your eyes and try to feel the mana around you.”
Doran did as he was told. The atmosphere went quiet. The chirping of birds outside filled the quiet room.
“Can you feel it.” ' Maverick asked.
“Strangely yes,” said Doran. He could truly feel the mana surrounding him. It was like being underwater. But it was also like not feeling the weight of the water.
“Ahh, as expected of legendary talent.”
“Now try to move this mana with your will.”
Doran tried to do as he was told. But it was like lifting a heavy stone from the ground.
“You have to do this exercise for now. You will feel it when the mana seed spawns. You can't miss one of the strangest and most comforting things you'll ever experience in life."
“Okay, keep practicing it.” Maverick was moving to leave when Doran spoke.
“Wait are you leaving?”
“There is no point in teaching anything without planting the seed of mana. I left a few books by the table for theoretical information, you can read them or do the exercise I said. When the mana seed is formed, the real lessons will begin.”
"How long does it take"
“It varies from person to person, some need to deal with it in 3-4 days, some for months.”
After saying that, Maverick turned and left, leaving Doran alone in his chair.
He wanted to read the Books but decided to do the exercise, the faster he planted the seed, the faster he could start learning magic.
—---------
Doran had come to the main hall of the castle for dinner after the lesson with Maverick. The exercise Maverick showed was mentally tiring. He looked a little tired because of that.

“I know you really want to be a mage, but don't get too tired, okay:?” said Elizabeth, seeing her son tired.
After her son's illness, she never stopped worrying about him.
Just as Doran was about to answer, Eren came running to them.
“Brother, are you going to be a mage?”
Doran smiled when he saw his cute brother. Normally, Eren's meals were served by the maids since he was too young to sit at the table. But he had cried to attend the dinners, and he had finally snatched a chair at the table.
"Yes, but you have to wait a few days to see the magic"
"I want to be a mage like you when I grow up," he said with willpower not expected of his age. Eren had just turned 5 years old.
"Of course, I'll show you all the shortcuts when you grow up" Doran said and smiled
The conversation between Eren and Doran made Ashe, who was watching from the side, laugh and be happy. In noble families, the main wife's son was usually cold and condescending to his other siblings. But Doran was treating Eren like a real brother.
These conversations were enough to put a smile on everyone's face. Not long after, Lord Albert came from the study and everyone sat down to eat.
Meals were served. Everyone started to eat.
“How was the lesson with Maverick?” said Lord Albert.
“It was good, but it doesn't look like there will be much progress until the seed is planted. oh by the way Father”
“Maverick told me about the lewis family's cultivator technique. Is it possible for me to study that technique?
“I didn't mention that I thought you'd focus on being a mage first though”
Seeing Doran's pleading eyes, he continued.
"Okay I'll teach you tomorrow"
The meal went on without incident. Everyone was smiling when Eren sat on the chair and tried to eat from the table with his short arms.
After dinner, Doran retired to his room. He had a bath in the hot tub, sat on his bed, and began to do the exercise Maverick had taught him.
He devoted himself to moving the surrounding mana. He sat in the same place for a few hours, repeating the same thing over and over, not realizing how time passed. Finally, he realized that something had appeared in his mind. His whole body was relaxed. His brain, tired from the exercise, came to life in an instant. This feeling was hard to describe. It was like walking into a chilled room on a very hot summer day. His whole body trembled. And he opened his eyes.
His eyes would widen in surprise when Maverick learned that Doran had planted the mana seed on day one.
Realizing that it was late at night, Doran lay on his bed and tried to sleep. But he couldn't sleep because of the excitement. He finally fell asleep with a smile on his face. He had taken the first step towards becoming a mage.

Thomas the Brawler
Thomas doesn't remember what his last name was, before it became Bluebrim, a name belonging to another universe. He's also pretty sure he wasn't this stupid before he arrived, but what can you do, when a day that was supposed to begin with an interview to set your life back on track instead begins in a universe that makes no sense, with rules you can't begin to understand? Maybe he should have paid more attention to the avatar creation screen ... Content warnings: All of them. Seriously. Expect lots of blue screens to begin with. Don't expect a power-leveling fantasy, in which the lone hero beats up all the bad guys, and gets a harem of women. There's just a guy who treats character creation like an annoying series of pop-up advertisements, and the story is basically the ramifications of that. The main character has to learn to take the world he's found himself in seriously, and he'll learn the way most of us do, by doing it wrong first. This is, insofar as it is successful, a dark comedy fantasy. Also a bit of horror, particularly but not exclusively body horror. I'm pretty sure I've earned those Content Warning tags, so, uh, yeah. This is practice. Hopefully things improve as I go, and figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I make no guarantees things will ever get better. I've already made mistakes, I'll make more, and I'm happy to notice them each time I make them. You don't improve unless you fail. (On the plus side, it probably won't get much worse.) Feel free to point out anything you think I'm doing wrong; I don't promise to change anything, particularly if it's a matter of taste, but I am looking to improve, and figuring out what I need to improve goes faster if I don't have to try to figure it out myself. I've updated the earlier chapters for formatting, in the hope that it would make everything easier to read on mobile devices. Hopefully things work slightly better now, but please let me know if there are any issues anywhere.
