《World Fragment Online》Chapter 10: Onslaught

Even though the Fenrir was weakened, it apparently still had enough strength to break down the remainder of the wall between it and the city. The Fenrir let out a roar which shook the area and the queen, she began to fall out of the sky, her form turning into white light particles as she disappeared. From that, I knew that it was now up to us players to take down the beast which had now entered the city and began attacking the NPC guard beast-men and elves.
As for me, I observed the Fenrir's attacks on the NPCs which, even if weakened, was still particularly strong but, it was lacking a lot in speed and precision. There were even some players who joined the fray and began attacking the Fenrir too. I tossed a few pepper bombs into it's eyes from a distance which at best caused it's eyes to twitch sometimes but never fully blink. My bombs were useless and I subconsciously expected it to be given that this was a monster type of world boss.
The boss's HP fell to 75% from which then it leapt high into the sky and came crashing, slamming down onto the street making a crater and emitting a high density dark wave of mana which pushed back all the attackers. Looking towards one poor group of scattered players and NPCs, the wolf opened it's mouth and out came a focused breath of darkness which transformed the group into dark silhoutes. The transformed group then chased after other players and NPCs to attack them. Thankfully at my distance, I was safe from the brunt of the boss's counter attack and lost only 20 HP as opposed to the other players who were in critical condition and were now trying to run away.
Some players joined the fray to replace the ones running away, seeing that the breath attack the wolf used caused it to stagger a little and that it wasn't attacking as frequently as before. I remained at a safe distance firing off mana bolts from the weapon bracer until it's HP began nearing to 50% at which point I made sure to secure myself to observe the wolf again. Sure enough, at 50% HP, the wolf leaped into the air only to smash down and send out a dark mana wave pushing back all who didn't notice the pattern. Eventually, Karl, Nicky and the rest of their group made it to the battle ground and I called them over and explained the situation.

"I knew we should've had traps ready!" said Jack whom I thought of as trap guy, "If we had some traps like bombs ready we would've downed it faster than this rate."
It took about three quarters of an hour to get the wolf beyond the 50% mark. Even if we currently have the help of NPCs, this isn't as bad as I thought it would be initially and so our group made a plan to assault the Fracture Fenrir with me along with Rhand as the vanguard, Nicky and Jack as mid-guard and Karl acting as the rear with his circular magic formations, as he explained loudly or rather, shouted, when I called them transforming letter circles.
We then attacked the boss together with the other players dodging the ripping claws and savage bites which came our way at which sometimes I or Rhand would get caught up in losing quite a bit of HP when we do and the amount increases as our KI went down from doing battle activity. When the Fenrir was going to hit 25% HP, we were prepared as we quickly made some distance, along with other players who had caught up with the boss's pattern, before we were caught in range to be severely damaged by the counter attack.
The beast let out a world shaking howl as its claws and eyes began to glow red and emit particle dust and its attacks began to sped up. It's status became berserk and it also had the added benefit of becoming super armored, although it's defense was more or less the same. It's claws left luminous red traces in space and even that was enough to cause damage as a player carelessly jumped right into it and died. Seeing this state, players began backing off after more and more of their allies fell until it was down to the three remaining members of our group Nicky, Karl and I or two if you count the fact that Karl was now out of MP as his magic circles disappeared and he was forced to sit on the sidelines and wait for his MP to recover.
With 3% of its HP remaining, the beast seemed to be unsteady and its mouth hung open as it took deep breaths. The transformed players and NPCs had long since corroded at this point as they were put down due to the additional danger they brought to the battle. Nicky took it upon herself to charge straight at the beast whilst I circled to a position out of it's sight. With the sword arm function of the weapon bracer, Nicky moved towards the Fenrir as she counter struck its attacking claws and head when it tried to bite at her. Meanwhile, at it's back, I struck at its hind leg joints which scored me a few critical hit notifications.

Eventually, the thing hit 1% and immediately leapt back, out of the city, and landed in front of the transport arch. Lowering its stance and opening its mouth at the same time, it aimed towards the city and began charging a ball of mana which was white yet had a black core. The charging created gusts of wind the made its tail We could both see that it was a last ditch effort meant to bring us down with it as it's HP was falling as well. Running away would have been the best option as even if the wolf fired off that thing, it most likely wouldn't be able to get through the multiple city structures surrounding the fountain but, it would most likely kill all the players currently not dead which included Karl who had now regained some MP to assist us.
With Karl making several gestures, he lagged behind us as we ran towards the wolf at our top speed as it wasn't on either of our conscious minds to abandon the others who helped us get this far.
At the wolf, we tried making jabs at it's head with our energy blade but it didn't flinch, no rather, it was being protected by magic circles which shielded it. The energy ball was now the half the size of the wolf's head and the earth was now beginning to shake with growing intensity. Karl arrived moments after with a sleeve of magic circles on his right arm and a fae on top of his head. He had used call to get a boost in magic efficiency as was evidenced by the aura he now had on him.
"What's that?" Nicky asked pointing to his arm.
"A magic rail gun." replied Karl, a big grin on his face and continued,"How come you two aren't attacking it?"
"It's got some kind of shield." I said.
"Does it fade right after?"
"Yeah only created on the point of impact and then fades away."
"That kind of shield huh?"
The Fenrir's face was now covered entirely by the energy ball and the dark core inside it was now expanding. It's HP had now hit the lowest point it possibly could as it's HP bar looked completely empty if you ignored the tiny sliver that remained.
"I'll create the opening, you two see if you can put it down right after." said Karl as he aimed a fist at the wolf resulting in the circles running along his arm to compress on top of each other right in front of his fist followed by a sonic boom and a loud shattering sound. Nicky and I followed up by jumping and stabbing the center of its head, a feat which was accomplished due to the wolf's lowered form as for which.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
