《Hero Status: Revoked》Arc 1 - 10 - Four Brothers

"Yes, I know this story too." Elena said. "You will probably like it very much."
'Four heroes? There were five of us...' Kyle remembered perfectly his time with the other heroes, and he knew the Legion of Holy Swords knew their were 5 of them, and the king knew, and the elven elders knew. Everyone knew about the five heroes.
"Four heroes?" Kyle asked Kathy as he got up and walked towards her and Elena on the couch.
"Kyle." Claire was upset that he was leaving and slowly followed him. Dave did not care and stayed where he was.
"That's right, four of the most brave and courageous people who defeated the demon king in the final battle to ensure humanities safety."
'It was probably Asura that was kicked out. Bastard killed me before we could kill the demon king together. Yeah, he was always an antisocial bastard.' Kyle was confident of the way this played out.
"One day after years of fighting for the humans during the demonic invasion, the four heroes chose to risk everything and fight the demon king head on to end the war quickly."
'Yeah, that part's right.' Kyle thought as he evaluated the story. Besides the number of heroes being wrong, everything else to this point was correct.
"So after several days of travel the four heroes made it to the demon king's palace."
'The time it took to get there is a little off, but that's okay. It's not really important if it took us a few days or a few weeks.' The difference in travel time would not effect the legend.
"There was the first hero, Kirito, who used his mighty sword to mow down the hordes of demon soldiers that guarded the palace"
'Right, Kirito used swords to fight with, everything is good.'
"Then there was the second hero, Feng, who had fist stronger than a horse's hind legs, who supported Kirito."
'Once again, correct.'
"And the 3rd hero, Akira, who cast powerful earth magic to make enormous rocks fall from the sky."
'We mostly used lighting magic and gravity magic, but he could use [Meteor] too.' This part was a little wrong, but for the most part it was correct.
"And then the greatest hero of them all, the fourth and final hero-"
'It's MEEEEEE!!' Kyle interrupted Kathy with his thoughts.
"Asura, who could control wild monsters to do his bidding."
'...' Kyle was stunned. 'So... four heroes huh....' Kyle was confused. 'FOUR HEROES HUH?' Kyle was angry. It was not Asura who betrayed him that was removed from the list of heroes, it was him.
"Was there anyone else?" Kyle asked, trying to hide his anger.
"Have you heard this story before?" Kathy asked him.
"I haven't told him." Elena said.
"Well, there was in fact a 5th person, the traitor." Kathy said this as if it was supposed to be scary, but it was infuriating.
'The traitor? ME A FUCKING TRAITOR! Not only has my status as a hero been revoked, but i'm a fucking traitor now? Asura betrayed ME!' Kyle wanted to yell, but he had a new life already and it would be strange for him to get so emotional about a story he was supposed to be hearing for the first time.

"Oh yeah, the traitor was a bad man." Kathy told Kyle, who was subconsciously making an upset face.
"When the 4 heroes reached the inner section of the demon king's palace, the traitor betrayed his friends and attacked them." Kathy continued to say.
'Fuck you Asura.' Kyle could not help but only think one thing.
"While the heroes Kirito, Feng, and Akira fought with the demon king, Asura was holding off the legions of demon soldiers."
'The little bitch just stood in the back.' Kyle remembered when it happened. Kirito and Feng in front, him and Akira providing magic support, and Asura in the rear.
"So when the traitor attacked he was almost able to kill Kirito. Luckily Asura saved the day and took him out before he could, and they later went on to kill the demon king and save the human race." Kathy cheerfully finished the story. It was something she was told when she was young, and thought it was thought of as mostly legend, the Akira family still held high positions as mages and the Kirito family were strong swordsmen.
'I'm going to find your descendants and murder them...' Kyle only had one option in his mind.
'This is the reason I was reborn.' Kyle would spend the rest of his second life to take revenge on the other heroes who were like brothers to him.
"Shit." Kyle accidentally let a word slip.
"Kyle! Where did you learn that word?" Elena was upset when Kyle cursed, so she grabbed his hand when he said it and pulled him closer to her.
"I heard it when we went into the 3rd district mom." Kyle quickly made something up. It was fortunate that Elena had let him wander around the town by himself or he might have had to blame someone else for teaching him it.
"You shouldn't say that word anymore Kyle." Elena let go of Kyle then he went back to playing with Claire and Dave.
'I''ll find your descendants Kirito, and i'll cut their fucking heads off.' Kyle knew that Kirito was a master of all bladed weapons and a scholar of the highest degree. If there was one method Kirito did not want to die in, and did not even kill his enemies with, it was decapitation. Kirito strongly believed in having an honorable death, and his skill afforded him the ability to choose how to kill his opponents. Kirito would never allow a friend of his to be betrayed unless he was offered something in return and accepted it.
'I'll find your descendants Feng, and i'll punch their face till they cave in.' Feng was always training. He would constantly go on about something called 'Cultivation' and the strength of the human body. For Feng, it was not as bad to decapitate someone as it was to make their face unrecognizable. According to Feng, a soul could only rest in peace if it's face could be seen by others, and their legends remembered. Feng would never have allowed Kyle's past life contributions to be forgotten.
'I'll find your descendants Akira. and i'll make sure they never cast a spell again.' Akira was very proud of his ability to cast powerful spells for long periods of time. Though Akira might not have betrayed Kyle to the extent that his descendants should be killed, they did not help preserve his contributes to the group of heroes, and humanity.

"And Asura, i'll...' Kyle could not think of what to do with Asura. Asura was the worst of the 4 other heroes that betrayed him, and thus his family needed to die the worst way possible, but that was not an easy thing. Asura was definitely antisocial, and he might not even have any descendants.
'I'll find them and then i'll think of something.' Kyle continued to play with Claire and Dave for the rest of the day until Elena took the two brothers home.
When Elena took Kyle and Dave back home, asked Elena if he could go to the 3rd district by himself, and because it was certainly a safe place for a 3 year old to be wandering around alone, she allowed him to.
Kyle went down the street to the 3rd district and went around the crescent to the north side. Kyle had never been to the edge of the town, but he was certain if he walked far enough he would reach the outside. The town was organized with the 1st district in the west, the 2nd district in the center, the 3rd district in the center of the 2nd district connecting to the 4th district, and the 4th district and the lord's manor in the east.
Kyle reached the outside of the town and used [Fly] to reach the top of the wall.
'KIRITO!' Kyle let the rage flow through him as he used the spell [Lightning] to produce a bolt of lighting from the sky. The lightning was huge and could have cracked windows if made nearby. Kyle was, however, casting the lightning far in the distance. He did not even realize when 20% of his mana disappeared. He was not concerned at all with what he hit with the spell.
'FENG!' Kyle used the earth spell [Meteor] which caused a huge rock to fall from the sky where the lightning came from.
There was an impact enough to cause earthquakes, and his mana was reduced another 20%.
"AKIRA!' Kyle used a technique for manipulating the legendary spell [Gravity] that both he and Akira knew. The gravity spell was cast in the same location as where the lightning and meteor hit, and then the ground floated upwards. Kyle was reversing the gravity and made thousands of down of dirt and rocks and trees all float 100 feet into the air before dropping them. Kyle was oblivious to the 30% of his total mana he lost, leaving him at just 30% left.
'ASURA!' Kyle cast the fire spell [Erupt] and a wall of flame appeared in the same spot as the lighting hit. The wall of flame was 50 feet wide and over 500 feet high. Kyle's mana had mysteriously been increasing dramatically from the time he was reborn, but even that did not make it high enough to sustain these spells. Kyle fell down on the top of the wall, and he was unconscious.
Kyle was in the black space again, but now there was another thing in front of him. It was a being with a white body mediating on an imaginary floor, but no had defining features other than the outline. Though the body could be seen and it was white, it gave off no light nor could any source of light be seen that illuminated it. The only thing other than the shape of the body that Kyle could see was its mouth when it spoke.
"I could smell the animosity from all the way in Nirvana, and imagine my surprise when I saw you."
The body spoke and Kyle could hear it, but Kyle could not feel a body of his own, and he did not think he had ears. The body spoke elegantly like a man who had experienced many things and lived a long time, but it was a young voice. Not as young as Kyle, but about 25.
"I know you can't speak back, and truthfully it took me quite a while to learn that skill. Even what you see before you took hundreds of years to make."
Kyle did not know what to think. On the limited occasions he had been in the black space, the infinite darkness, he was alone. This time though, there was a person, and it was speaking to him as if it knew what he was going through.
"I don't feel like involving myself with the affairs of mortals, so if you want to kill the descendants of the other 3 heroes, go head, but know one thing,"
The body got up from it's meditating position and walked towards Kyle. Though Kyle could not see a body or feel one, the strange white body could apparently see one of his. The white body stopped and looked into Kyle's eyes just a few inches from his face, if Kyle had a face and the body had eyes.
"Your soul is only in Oblivion, you will never be able to touch me."
The body said in a menacing tone and walked away from Kyle and went back to meditating. Kyle could not speak or move, or else he would have ran far away from whatever evil presence was in front of him. Around the white body as it got closer was an aura of evil spirits and deathly intentions.
"Now go back to Limbo."
The white body waved it's hand and Kyle could feel something he had not felt before. It was a stretching feeling as if he was being pulled like the skin from a cat's neck. Kyle tried to scream, but was unable, for he had not mouth.

In Pursuit of Bark's Finest
On the frontiers of transhumanity’s expansion into the galaxy thousands of light years from the light of Sol, things can get rather chaotic. There are countless millions of nascent interstellar nations securing their interests, pirate ships prospering off plunder and deniable mercenary work, dissidents setting up their own civilizations, and other groups all trying to push an agenda. When these groups crash into each other, the results can become extremely messy and convoluted. Recently, a frontier nation calling itself the Red Star Union has found itself at the focal point of one such complication. A freighter under their protection has been sabotaged, hijacked in interstellar space, and robbed of its cargo. This would be bad enough even if all it were carrying was luxury goods, but the freighter Nebula Plow was carrying more than just normal trade goods. Indeed, her cargo of Non-Orientable Wormholes for use in starship power plants was both very expensive and very, very dangerous. Now the Red Star Union has to worry about a pirate crew running around with several extra devices capable of converting matter into antimatter with negligible energy cost. With those, the pirates could be capable of inflicting untold damage if allowed to leverage their ill-gotten gains into a stronger position, a possibility the Union finds completely intolerable. Unfortunately, all that the Red Star Union has to go on for evidence is two names; that of the captain, and that of the ship. The Captain is going by the possible pseudonym of Fuller, while the ship is named Bark’s Finest. And thus the orders came down to the Union’s Bureau of Starforce Intelligence: find more information on these pirates, conclusively identify them, and figure out where exactly they’ve gone to ground so that the fleet can crush them before they get established. Of the many agents that the bureau assigned to this mission, one would happen to play an important role: Field Agent Madeline Zargosty. This is her story. This story is entirely pre-written, and will have one chapter released per week. If you want to read it all ahead of schedule and get access to some premium-exclusive bonus content, the entire book is available for purchase; links to the appropriate storefront pages will be posted at the end of each chapter.
