“Shit!” Anwen cursed under her breath.

How had she not seen this coming? Not five minutes after assuring her majesty’s navy of their merchant background, they get fired upon by the bloody fucking Spanish. How had no one seen that damned Spanish man’o’war? It didn’t matter now. What mattered now, was making sure the crew had made it off the ship. Though, she was certain most had made it off when she’d given the order after the first volley of cannon fire.

“Mother?” Asena’s voice could barely be heard over the crackle of fire.

“No!” Anwen shouted back. “Asena go! Get out of here!”

“Not without you! Where are you?”

Anwen was about to reply when she saw the one place the fire had yet to reach. The most dangerous place on the entire ship. The powder magazine.

“Leave me!” she screamed as the flames inched closer to the closed door.

“I’m not leaving you!”

“Captain!”

Leave it to Aytigin to always be there when she needed him most.

“Aytigin, get my daughter off this ship now!” she yelled beating back the flames trying to give them and her more time.

“Captain?”

“The fire’s almost reached the magazine! I’ll buy you as much time as I can, just get my daughter off this ship and get her home!”

“Aye Captain!”

“MAMA!”

Asena’s screams would linger in her ears, giving her the strength to beat back the flames until she thought they were safe. Exhausted, Anwen didn’t feel herself burning when she collasped against the magazine door. Nor did she feel strong arms wrap around her and drag her topside. The only thing she did feel, was the shock wave from the explosion of the powder magazine and the cold waters of the North Atlantic.
