《Another World Trucker》Chapter 1

“Hello? Can you all hear me?! Testing 1, 2, 3,… ah, there we go!”
I wake up to a loud voice blasting in my ears that is also seeming to come straight from my head. It’s one of the weirdest sensations I’ve ever felt.
“Sorry, it seems like I have the volume too loud, just a moment!”
As the voice fades away, I open my eyes and I find myself standing in what looks to be a parking lot. I look around and see a strip mall nearby. Am I back on Earth again? Was that field all just a dream?
“There we go, got the visuals working now as well.”
As I’m wondering what’s going on, two people appear in front of me on a projector-like screen that’s floating in mid-air. I turn my head left and right and the screen just stays in the middle of my vision.
“Welcome everyone, you’ve all been selected for our fun team-based deathmatch competition. Congrats! All of you have been chosen based on two main criteria. One, you all were originally from Earth, just like us! And two, all of you were transported to another world, either by some cosmic entity, summoning ritual, truck-kun, or what have you.”
So it seems like that field wasn’t a dream after all. I died, was reincarnated in that world, then got immediately kidnapped for this deathmatch or whatever it is.
My two kidnappers are on the screen, both holding microphones behind what looks like a normal announcer’s desk. The one that has been talking enthusiastically thus far is a probably a female in her early 20s with long straight white hair. She’s wearing a white ball gown adorned with intricate lace and beautiful gold accents that immediately draw your eyes to her. She wouldn’t look out of place in an old fashioned royal ballroom as the main character of a young adult romance story.

“Now I know, I know, you all likely have many questions about what’s going and what this is about-- and we’ll get to them in due time-- but first we need to introduce ourselves! You may call me White. Now a few things about myself. I love all things girly, especially fashion. If any of you out there on my team want to talk about fashion, make sure you hit me up. I’m also very weird and quirky, just like everyone I picked for my team! Lol, I know, I’m a basic white bitch, alright? Alright. The most important thing you need to know about me, though, is what I love most in the world. That’s watching people climb up high on hope and almost reach the top, just to fall back down to the depths of despair. Seeing people suffer like that really gets me going, so you should all do your best to suffer for me!”
White giggles at this, and it looks like she gets lost in her own thoughts for a moment. I can’t even imagine what she must be picturing right now.
“Black here is up next, so I’ll have him introduce himself.”
The man sitting down next to her looks to about the same age as White. He’s got his elbows on the desk with his head propped up on one of his hands. He does not look like he wants to be here. He has short black hair that is almost down to a buzz cut. He’s wearing just a simple black t-shirt with nothing on it. He’s the complete opposite of the woman standing next to him.
“.... Hey”
“Oh come on, Black. You can do better than that”
...........
“Whatever, I’ll introduce you myself. This is Black, my younger twin brother. He’s very shy in front of large crowds, as you can tell, and he can be a bit of a downer. But, when you get him talking about one of the few things he enjoys, he can be quite the talker. Most importantly though, he’s quite a sore loser and will always in every way be inferior to his big-”

“What did you say about me? You bitch! I’ll always be better than you and you know it.”
“He’s also prone to fits of violence if insulted or when something doesn’t go his way.”
At this point, Black jumps out of his chair and tackles White to the ground. The camera shifts focus up and over the desk to get them both back into view. It’s now showing Black sitting on top of White with his hands covering her mouth. White is struggling to get Black off her.
“Don’t listen to this dumbass. The only thing you need to know right now is that you’re not in much danger currently. We’re starting you off on a tutorial world so you can form parties within your team. Everything will be explained, just say ‘system tutorial start’ and that’ll get you going.”
White finally disappears and reappears right next to him.
“You little idiot, if you didn’t want me to say those things you should have just introduced yourself.”
After White says this, I see lightning start crackling around her, almost like she is the Zeus himself. The screen suddenly snaps out of existence, and in its place appears a single sentence.

Shades of the Moon
I'm rewriting this story! I have taken down Arc 2 and Arc 3 already to avoid spoiling my new novel. The only reason I'm keeping the first 10 chapters is nostalgia; the writing is awkward and the story is not plotted out properly, but it's here if anyone wants to compare it to the new one. If you'd like to read a more professionally written version of this story, I highly suggest checking out my Synergy. Synopsis version too-many-to-count: “I see,” Kiona said. “But . . . you’re changing once again, aren’t you?” The entity considered her question, lifting a clawed hand towards the night sky. They observed the back of their hand idly, watching the glowing orange veins pulse alongside their pitch-black exoskeleton. The wind picked up right then, and Kiona shivered—just as much from the cold as from the savage grin on the creature's face. “That’s right,” the entity said, clenching their hand slowly into a fist. They let out a quiet laugh, staring defiantly at the Moon as it rose from behind the clouds. “We are shades, yet not exactly. Not like the others. Here, in this world, we've become something more. We are the Shades of the Moon.” There was a heartbeat of silence, during which Kiona joined the entity in their skygazing. The light-green Moon loomed over the city, shining like the entity's eyes. It promised otherworldly knowledge and terrible secrets. It promised progress. It promised change. In that moment, Kiona couldn't have imagined anything more beautiful. “Shades of the Moon, huh?” she said, smiling a bit. It had a nice ring to it.

A Long Refrain
September, in the Continuate: For most students living in the Third Division, the month's arrival usually means the start of a new school year. But not so for one particular freshman, whose first month at college seems to never end—literally. Set during the 20th year of the nation's Rectification Era, A Long Refrain follows Melody Quick’s attempts to escape from the month-long time loop she's found herself trapped in. Her journey, which starts in the capital city of Somnhaven, will take her across the vast expanse of land once known as Circadia, whose forgotten histories, ancient secrets and eccentric inhabitants could hold the key to discovering the true nature of the loop and the role she herself plays within it. However, the more she learns, the more cruel truths she must face: Will she really be able to handle the awful reality behind the loop, and all that it entails? And will those very same answers she's found be enough to not only break her free from the loop, but to also protect the people she holds dear? (A-and from what, exactly ...?)
