《World Jumper》Chapter 14

Jet felt like beating his head against a wall, anything to take his mind off what he was doing. Relo had suggested a play, which meant an opera, he found out. He had gone to an opera on a field trip in middle school. The girl that sat next to him at the time kept waking him up, said he was snoring too loud. He looked at Ileana and realized she was asleep.
Jet leaned over and whispered in her ear. "Ileana, why are you sleeping."
Ileana jerked when he whispered in her ear. "I'm not sleeping, just resting my eyes."
'Really, why did she agree to watch a play if she didn't like them.' He thought, sighing. "Why did you agree to watch a play if you don't like them?"
"Well, because you asked. I'll admit this is more a Rachael thing." Ileana said, turning towards Rachael, who was watching the play intently.
Jet also turned to Rachael, who tagged along when he asked Ileana if she would like to see a play. 'Really, Relo, you tricked me into this. If I say it was your idea now, it will hurt Ileana's feelings.' He noticed some of the people looking up at them. So he decided to keep quiet for a few minutes.
"We could skip out during the next intermission." Jet whispered at Ileana, but Rachael had heard him too and was now glaring at him. He also noted a few people in the audience below them were looking their way. 'You get no privacy if you are hanging out with princesses.' He thought to himself.
After a few minutes, Ileana whispered back. "We can't. It would be interpreted as the play was not worth watching. It would destroy all of their careers."
So Jet sat there, and every time one of them nodded off, the other would wake them. This went on for hours. How Ileana kept a straight face through it all intrigued Jet. Then when people started clapping, Jet was so relieved it was over. In his opinion, these actors needed to goback to acting school, if that was a thing here.
"Please tell me we can go." He got up, popping his joints from sitting so long. Jet was sore from not moving for so long.
"Of course not, we have to congratulate them on their superb performance." Rachael got up, making sure to stand straight-backed and looking down at people.
Jet never got along with Rachael. He didn't like how she looked down on people. If you looked up the definition rich and pampered, there would be a picture of Rachael. He tried to get to know her and stopped after she politely asked him to stay out of her way. So Jet did just that, but he was always polite to her anyways.
"Rachael is right. We can't leave. We need to go shake hands and tell them it was a great performance." Ileana gave a small smile of encouragement.
Jet could tell the smile was fake. "Because if the royal family and their special guest just left without saying anything. It would be construed as the play was completely and totally boring." Ileana was coughing in her hand to stifle a laugh. At the same time, Rachael was beat red and glaring at him. As if he had just done something truly awful. "I mean, really, the end of the play made no sense at all. So like what happened to the poor family that was going to be executed. They didn't even show back up. It makes no sense." Jet admittedly nodded off a few times, but he couldn't have missed that much.

"You uneducated dolt, this is just act one of this play." Rachael turned to leave and harrumphed at Jet.
"First act, how many are there?" Jet paled at the thought. "The play was over six hours long." He turned to look back at Ileana.
"I think this play has five parts, maybe six." She was tapping her finger on her chin.
'Five or six acts. That's thirty to thirty-six hours. Who in their right mind would sit through that.' He was now rubbing his forehead. "Well, my lady, shall we go mingle then escape to do something more fun." He put up his arm so she could take it.
"We shall." Ileana took his arm, and they were off to mingle.
After talking to some of the actors, Jet decided they were boot lickers. They made sure to tell him how great he looked when the next play would be. He, however, somehow endured through it all. Ileana grabbed his arm again and headed towards Rachael. She looked to be talking with the director.
"We actually are almost done with the final act, my lady. We will be showing it after this winter." Jet heard when he got close. The man was quite tall, standing over six feet, and a deep gruff voice.
"Well, director can't wait to see how it ends." Rachael had a grin on her face.
"Let me write down the date of the release just for you. I know you will keep a secret until it's announced." The director grabbed a parchment out of a drawer then an ink flask. Then he started looking through the other drawers.
"Princess Rachael, me, and princess Ileana are going to head out. Did you want me to escort you back to the castle first?" Jet asked as casually as he could. He had the feeling a lot of people were jealous of him hanging out with them.
Rachael turned to Jet and frowned. "That will be fine. Just let the director finish before we go."
Jet could see in her eyes that she wanted to stay longer. "Of course, my lady. I do not wish to rush you." He could tell the way he talked to her got on her nerves.
"Sorry for the delay, my lady. I have sent someone to get a quill. I couldn't find one at this desk." The director gave Rachael a deep bow.
Jet didn't want to wait. He took out his pen from his pocket and handed it to the director. "Here, just use my special quill. Simple to use just use the pointed end on the parchment. Also, please don't dip it in the vial of ink."
The director had a puzzled look on his face. He kept looking at the pen then back at Jet. Then he turned to the parchment and started to write. The man's eyes bulged when it wrote without being dipped in ink. After he was done, he gave Rachael the parchment. Then he walked up to Jet and handed the pen back.

"Young master, how does this device work?" The director's eyes were lit up with curiosity.
"It's called a pen. As for how it works, the ink is inside of it. I'm sure you will get well acquainted with them." The scientists for the king figured out how to duplicate his pen. The king already had his own.
"I see, so that is the pen that I've heard about. After using one, I will most definitely get some." The director was rubbing his hands together.
Jet handed the pen back to the director. "Consider this a gift for the great performance and giving Rachael your surprise release date."
"I will treasure your gift, young master." The director gave Jet a bow.
Before Jet headed back to the castle, he showed the director how to refill the ink on the pen. Once back at the castle, Rachael went off to her room, and Jet decided to take Ileana for a walk in the gardens.
"I'm sorry, if I had known you didn't like plays, I would have done something else." Jet apologized to Ileana.
"It wasn't all that bad. It was nice to be with you today." Ileana had a small smile on her face.
Jet looked at Ileana. It was nice to see even a small smile on her face. She looked good in her yellow dress with blue frills on it. It went nicely with her long gold hair. Ileana's eyes met his, and she leaned towards him. Jet knew she was going to kiss him. But, before their lips, met he grabbed her shoulders and stopped her. Ileana was so close he could feel her breath. Looking into her eyes, he could see a future with her, but it could never happen. His heart belonged to another.
Ileana finally pulled back and put her hand over her mouth. "I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me." She apologized, going red in the face.
Jet, out of the corner of his eye, noticed a guard watching. He was giving a face that yelled, what is wrong with you. Jet decided to ignore him. "I don't want to hurt you."
"Or you don't want to be hurt by me."
"No, to be honest, I do like you, Ileana."
"Then why."
"I kissed Relo already."
Before he could explain, Ileana went wide eyed. Then shouted. "You and Relo kissed."
Jet, who was about to explain, noticed the guard watching them looked about ready to kill him. "Let me explain." Then he quickly told Ileana what had happened.
"Oh, so you really didn't want to hurt me?" Ileana had finally calmed down after the explanation.
"Yes, if we had kissed, my magic would reject you. And since I lost my memories, I don't know who I am bonded to." Jet said to throw off the guard. Since the guards, all thought his memory was tampered with and wiped.
Ileana understood what he was saying. She just didn't want to accept it. It was why she had played so many pranks on him. To spend as much time with him as possible. Then the last prank went wrong, and she had hurt him. It was still eating her up on the inside. How could she ever forgive herself for what she did? Jet's hand was severely injured. What if he couldn't ever use it properly again. That's when she realized his right hand was still on her shoulder.
"I see you noticed I can use my hand. Well, sort of use it anyways." Jet took off his glove to show her his hand. It was still malformed, but it was noticeably better. For one, it didn't bleed every time he touched something.
Ileana gently grabbed his hand and ran her fingers over it. It still had patches of scabs where his hand had been cut the deepest. However, there was already pink skin growing in areas and very noticeable scars.
"You need not worry about me. I will be just fine." Jet leaned over and gave Ileana a reassuring hug. Then pulled back after a while. Her eyes were glistening with tears.
"Jet, if you ever need anything, all you need is ask." Ileana meant it. She would help him in any way she could.
Jet had an idea running through his head, sending his mind in overdrive, planning his next move. Relo and Jet had hit quite the snag in their plan to make it look like he watched the fights from the stands when he was a competitor. Relo had suggested that Jet just told the king he was feeling too down to watch the fights. That went out the window when the king said he could learn from watching other's fights. He reached up to rub his head in frustration. Then he realized his hands were moving slow. No, not just his hands. Everything was moving slow.
'Hang on my magic is coursing through my brain right now. Have I accidentally found a way to speed up my thoughts?' As the thoughts went through his head, he realized he could feel a migraine coming on and stopped it.
"Jet, hello, Jet you in there." Ileana had a worried expression on her face.
Jet just grinned and looked right at her. He leaned in close to her putting his mouth up to her ear to whisper. "I need your help with something."

I am quite busy and write this during breaks at work. This is one of those goon-squad stories with a million characters, so "dizzying" might be a good way to describe the energy. Much of what builds up to the first arc happens in the first ten chapters, which are quite long. For that reason, if you have difficulty getting through the story, I understand, though things don't really start happening until Chapter 8-10.
