《World Jumper》Chapter 39

Jet wasn't sure what to think and just stood leaning on the light pole. Jeff had left him to his thoughts. As for Alex he just let her go wander around. So now he just looked at the ring in the small box. "What should I do?"
"Well, for starters wait another six months. Can't get married until we're eighteen." Amanda said looking over his shoulder.
"We could run away to another state." Jet leaned over and kissed her on the cheek.
Amanda smiled and rubbed one of her hands on Jet's cheek. "All you need do is ask."
Jet wanted to run away with Amanda. Why couldn't he just walk away with her? He's seen her bruises from her mother. All he wants is to be with her. 'Then what is stopping me.' He thought as he hugged Amanda tightly. Jet's eyes opened wide as what looked like an ice spear headed straight towards them. Without hesitation, he pushed Amanda out of the way and got hit in the shoulder.
Heat poured out of Jet's body melting the ice. "That would have hit Amanda, you bastard." He looked at a figure standing in a dark shadow.
"She was in the way." A soft feminine voice rang out in the dark.
Jet clenched his fists and growled. "If you have a problem with me that's fine. But leave her out of this."
"Like you have the right to talk. You killed my best friend, and now you and her will die you son of a bitch." She reached up a hand ice spears forming.
Jet hadn't killed anyone on Earth, so he had no clue who she was talking about. 'Alex take Amanda and protect her.' He had already given her five percent of his magic.
'Don't worry I'll get her out and come back and help.' Alex jumped off the roof of the Pizza Hut and grabbed Amanda up in her mouth.
'Alex, you protect her at all costs. There could be another person. She mentioned I killed a friend, so there could be more people.' Jet also could fight to his full power knowing she was out of danger.
Something was wrong, she hadn't thrown her ice spear. While he tried to figure out why a couple more ice spears slammed into his back. Jet winced but was glad he had heated the air around him. The ice spears mostly melted, but it still hurt.
"Tricky little bitch aren't you." Jet turned on his magic sense to find the other person. There was no other person, her magic energy however was everywhere. 'Why hadn't I tried that?' He thought to himself. Why wouldn't it work, all he did was send his magic out of his body to use. Well, the ideas went through his head distracting him, a couple of roots burst out of the ground wrapping around his legs. Then it struck him who she was talking about. His eyes landed on a tree that was glowing with life. He had missed it with all the magic in the air.
"So you're a friend of that tree." The tree that had murdered an entire town, Jet figured that would be too obvious to say.
"That tree is all you got to say. Well, that tree had a name, buddy." She glared at Jet forming ice spears all around him.

"I'm guessing you named the tree?" Now Jet was in the process of distracting her. He knew it was a bad time to try something new. But, he figured if it worked the effort would pay off. If it didn't then he is wasting a lot of magic.
"Why you little shit. Making fun of my friends." She growled out.
"What is your name, Sissy." Jet was never good with jokes or back talk, and was coming up with bullshit on the spot. All he needed was for her to keep talking.
"Die." That's all she said, then sent the ice spears at him.
Jet's plan totally backfired on him. The roots around his legs tightened and thorns formed digging into his skin. He was getting tired of trees now and planned to cut them down in his yard when he got back. Jet had been slowly working his magic into the air. The hard part was keeping from losing control of the magic. So he used the magic to create an inferno around him to melt the ice and some to create a fireball, for the tree. The inferno that twisted around Jet blew outwards and dissolved the ice spears. The fireball struck the tree and it caught fire. He watched as the women flew backward from the force of the inferno, and he cringed inwardly when all the building's windows shattered and caught fire. Before the flames got out of control Jet put them out. 'Well, that was a waste of magic.'
The women got back up wincing in pain. She tried to touch her cheek but winced in pain when she did. Her face had some nasty burns covering half her face. "My beautiful face, what have you done?"
Jet hadn't seen her face, so his thoughts were. 'I don't care you crazed lunatic.' He had more pressing matters, like the fact his wrist bracelet flashing red. Hearing the sirens he figured the cops would be here soon. Looking over to the tree it was flailing its limbs around. This tree wasn't even an eighth of the size of Buddy. So in the end he figured it was too young to do what Buddy had done.
The woman had gotten back up on her feet hands outstretched to her sides. "So you like to play with fire, too bad for you I play with water." All the water mains under the city burst and water started to rain down on them. Then she noticed all the water around Jet was evaporating.
Jet gave her a wicked smile, then lowered the heat around himself. He had learned two things in this fight. First, he could keep the air around him cool so he didn't burn himself. Second and most important. She couldn't manipulate other elements, giving him an edge. Now he created several water spears, then pulled the heat out of the water making them into ice spears. Then to his utter shock, the spears started to turn towards him. 'Crap I should've trained more with the other elements.' He was starting to regret that more and more.
"Die you mother fucker." She screamed and all the ice spears shot towards Jet.
The world slowed down as Jet used his overdrive. But he didn't stop there, he slowed the world to a crawl. The ice spears barely moved as he forced his body to move faster than it should. However, he could not dodge all the spears and sent fireballs at the ones he couldn't. Then a root tripped him so he couldn't keep dodging. 'Damn tree is getting annoying. Davis is going to kill me, or Forge might first.' Jet started to create a fireball with three percent of his magic. It wasn't easy to concentrate while he fell compacting that much magic. He also really hoped people had already run away.

From the woman's point of view, Jet did the impossible. She was not sure how he moved so fast. Then a fireball came out of nowhere and flew at her friend. When the fireball hit, the explosion threw her through the air slamming her against a wall.
Jet's head hurt from looking at the world so slow. Of course, his body ached all over, the explosion knocked a few ice spears away. However, he had a spear in his right arm, right leg, and torso. He was almost sure nothing vital was hit. Jet quickly melted the ice and cauterizing his wounds. While he got back up his bones creaked and his muscles spasmed. 'Alex please tell me you're far away.' While he asked he looked at the stupid tree that had been blown apart.
'I'm halfway back to your house then I'll come to help you.' Alex reported.
'May not have to, think I knocked her out.' Jet walked towards the woman that attacked him. Then stopped and looked at all the fires and put them out. Before he got to the woman the police showed and told him to put his hands up. With no hesitation, he put his hands up or tried his right arm only went halfway.
"Mr. Gardner care to explain what's going on here?" One of the officers asked.
Jet looked around at all the damage. "Not really." He started to smile, but with his magic sense still on he just made out the ice spears forming. The problem was they weren't pointed at him. They were forming above all the officers. Reaching out with earth magic he tried to grab them all and move them. But because of all the woman's magic in the air, he wouldn't get to the ground around them quick enough. The world slowed again to a crawl. The ice spears were fully formed now.
The officers noticed Jet's face and looked up, but they didn't have enough time to move. Then a strong wind knocked them all back just in time.
Jet's body was racked with pain. His body hadn't had enough time to fully recover from the fight with Lord Crimson. Then that tree buddy had thrashed his body. 'Why do I keep getting into these situations?' He let the world speed up a little, his head ached, but he couldn't let his guard down. That woman was already up and doing something. The magic in the air was his biggest issue at the moment. Although he decided to practice this trick later. Then he dropped his overdrive and stood in shock. 'Alex I think it's time for you to come back.' Jet said as he looked at a giant ice dragon forming out of her magic.
'I'm almost to your.' Alex stopped when the image flashed through her vision. 'I'll drop her here and have her walk the rest of the way.' After a few long seconds she appeared next to Jet. "What's the plan boss?"
"You distract the dragon, I'll take the woman."
"Wow glad to see I drew the short straw."
Jet poured twenty percent of his magic into Alex. She grew to her original size, which was still smaller than the ice dragon. "Try not to destroy the town."
Alex looked around then down at Jet. "Seriously, I think you should try a little harder."
Jet turned and started to walk towards the woman with a crazy look in her eyes. While walking he looked at the officers. "I suggest you get everyone out of here. It's going to get ugly soon." Heat started pouring out around him. That little test he did earlier cost him greatly, he only had about five percent of his magic left.
Amanda
"Put me down Alex." Amanda didn't much like being in Alex's mouth.
"Ho stol." Alex wasn't enjoying it much either. She could feel the desperation in Jet's fight. She leaned her head around and sat Amanda down on her back. "Now hold on we need to hurry."
"Alex we can help." Amanda wanted to go back, but she didn't want to fall off Alex.
"I'm sorry Amanda you can't help."
"I can't lose him again," Amanda yelled, tears falling down her face.
Alex inwardly sighed. "Amanda I've seen a lot of Jet's memories. I can't let you die."
"What do you mean his memories? He can share the with you?"
"He can share, but I looked through his memories before he started to stop me. I looked where I should have not. After his parents died you saved him and you don't even realize it." Alex said in a pained voice.
"Alex tell me what you're talking about?" Amanda just had to know what she meant.
"Jet would kill me if I told you. He has buried that memory deep for good reason."
"Tell me," Amanda asked in a soft voice.
Alex let out a small sigh regretting saying anything. "You remember the day he came back after buying Grey Disaster?"
"Of course, he invited me to his house. I figured he felt bad that I didn't get the game. That I couldn't even afford, I was only walking by. He just irritated me so I acted like I was there to buy the game." Amanda remembered the day fondly.
"That's what happened, but not what Jet intended. When he was in line to buy, well bribe the cashier to buy the game. While he stood there he watched another family. All I will say, he had given up on life after that. Jet saw you outside and was going to give you that game." Alex came to a complete stop and let Amanda off. "You are everything to Jet. Now run home and stay safe." Alex vanished, leaving Amanda a couple of blocks from Jet's house.

Humanity endures. The phrase is not only an informal slogan of the reformed United Nations, but a rallying cry the world over. Even in the face of extermination, we struggled, we fought, and we endured. But just how close did we actually come? In our darkest hour, how many steps separated our species from oblivion? Drawn from thousands of interviews, as well as uncorrupted contemporary recordings and source documentation dating back to the early 2000s; Points of Light is a definative look at the last half century of upheaval, prosperity and carnage.
