《The Confused Explorer》Chapter 5: The Guardian

Although Mike had seen this before he still couldn't get used to the surprises this Explorers Log always gave him. When Mike awoke from his stupor after a short second of thinking, he pushed the 'CLAIM' button eager to see what would happen.
With a resplendent glowing burst, the box exploded into a multitude glowing words that flowed around Mike like a river before stopping in front of him to form sentences he could read.
'What type of Guardian would you like to have?'
[Swordsman]
[Mage]
[Archer]
[???]
A heavy radiance surrounded these words that appeared in front of Mike, as if to show their importance to the world.
After this had happened so many times, Mike was getting used to this level of showiness by the Log and was almost unfazed by it, almost. Gaining his bearing Mike assessed his options here, as to which one would be the best pick for him. His beating heart wouldn't calm down whenever he looked at his options.
"If I had to choose it'd be Mage, but the unknown one is the one that draws me towards it."
"After all from all the novels I've read point at that one being the best option."
Mike picked it quite fast, not really giving himself time to question his logic.
As Mike stared at his choice he kind of regretted doing that after all this wasn't a novel, but real life.
With his choice the surrounding words turned back into the flowing rivers and coalesced into the question marks. As the chosen option was getting large and brighter its form slowly changed into that of a ball.
As it was on the vestiges of being done a small popping sound happened, and the ball of large divine light popped like a bubble, and what appeared afterwards was...a 'little' golden bird.

Staring at the slightly under 6 foot tall bird Mike couldn't help but marvel at it. It was really cute seeming as it slowly walked towards him. Once it was directly in front of the frozen Mike it started rubbing its head on him quite affectionately making large cooing sounds. It nearly pushed Mike over were it not for his new found strength he'd be on the floor by now.
Looking at the golden bird, Mike pulled out The Explorers Log to scan it. Once it was in front of Mike a new window had appeared beside the original one.
There was the normal window, the now big bold letters on the top that said 'Explorers Log' with his information below it and now being level 5 instead of 2, with a line under that was all normal the left hand sided tabs with 'Ores' still highlighted along with the middle box still scanning that weird crystal.
Beside this window on a completely new window had the word 'Guardian' in golden cursive on the top of the window with a line and under that was his new Guardians information.
Guardians:
Name: None
Species: Roc
Level: 0
Looking back over to his main window Mike clicked 'Fauna' and then the Middle screen had the big magnifying glass take up a lot of it. The progress bar shifted into the lower right hand corner in order to allow Mike to scan the golden bird.
Clicking the magnifying glass, Mike looked at his new guardian. Thinking of it The Explorers Log pushed for the new found scanning process as it quickly started the progress.
As the bar was increasing quite rapidly, Mike didn't really have time to do anything else as the bar was almost done after barely even starting it.
After finally being done after only a few seconds of waiting, the prompt of a new log appeared on the middle screen saying 'Roc' with the fiery words 'New' next to it.

Clicking on it in anticipation Mike got a picture in the top left corner of the same bird staring at him outs
--Roc: A Roc is a mountainous bird of vast power, these birds are fiercely territorial and thus will protect their area with their lives, these birds are also very loyal and will fight to the death for what they believe in. The intelligence of a Roc outstrips humans by quite a bit, however their intelligence is gradual so they grow into it. A Roc at birth is relatively small as compared to how big it will be at adulthood, however they grow very quickly and are able to reach adulthood only after 500 years of their almost 1 million year old lives. A Roc has its feathers immediately after birth so they are able to fly as soon as they are born. A Rocs feathers are as hard as diamond at birth and grow stronger the longer they are alive. Rocs generally cap at about the size of a mountain upon adulthood, however there have been exceptions. The talons of a Roc can slice through most materials and only grow sharper the more they are used. This species is virtually extinct as the birth rate for a Roc is generally one every few thousand years.
Environment: Sky
Effects: N/A
Danger Level: MAXIMUM
Rarity: Legendary
Once done reading through the information of this Guardians species, Mike now understood why it seemed so affectionate towards him as it was rubbing its head against his open palm like a cat.
Mike thanked his lucky stars for giving him such a life line and allowing him to live after today with a powerful creature by his side to protect him from danger as he explored what was in store for him.
Wondering how much command he had over his Guardian Mike decided to test out its skills and see how powerful it was since it was obviously still a hatchling.
But before he could get to that Mike realized he hadn't even named this beautiful golden bird yet.
"What should I name you?" In an excited voice out loud Mike looked at this cute creature with eyes of a child, as the bird started jumping around in joy in knowing it was about to be named.
" How about...Goldey?" Think up one Mike looked at him and with a look of disgust the bird shook its head at such a simple and crude name.
"Hmm I don't have any name in particular for you"
"I know! I remember for a class in college I had to do a study of Hungary's culture and they had a symbol of a bird of prey they called Turul, how about that?" Seemingly satisfied with the name the golden bird nodded in agreement to the name, and from hence forth is called Turul.
