《Chosen - A CYOARPG》Prologue: You Are My Only Hope

“Help me Chosen. You are my only hope.”
The voice calls out to you from the blackness. It’s cold. Quiet. There’s no breath in the air, not even your own. Perhaps you’ve died, and you’ve-
“I am trapped within these bonds…I was once a Chosen, like you, but now I am here, an animal within its cage.”
Your thoughts are broken by the voice. It’s angry, but you can hear the hint of defeat within it’s voice.
“I prayed for you… I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to. I didn’t mean for it to happen like this…”
What was it talking about? It brought you here, but it seems so… confused. As you try and move, you realise you don’t really have a body.
“Forgive me. I have brought you here, a machination of my own selfishness.” You can hear it swallow. “My name is… Uh… I had a name. Many years ago. I remember, I remember having a name, no, it doesn’t matter. Call me Chosen. No, that’s too confusing…”
You can tell they are struggling, though your silence and understanding seems to calm them somewhat.
“You can call me Obi. Obi seems fine. Right?”
After a long awkward pause, they continue.
“Right. I think…I think I should send you on your way.”
You can feel your consciousness push back into the space, and then you stop moving… Then you are pulled back towards Obi.
“Sorry, I should probably tell you a little bit about what’s going on here. I called you here… I am going to send you into a world where magic is real, very real, and monster’s exist, and… Well, you’ll learn more about it once you’re inside. I can give you certain skills and powers, and in terms of your background… Well… I’ll do my best.”

Obi let’s out a long sigh. Their breathing becomes heavier, and with each passing moment you feel yourself float away. “I’ll let you sleep, and while you dream, I will give you your options.”
Then you are gone.
Obi, or I suppose I, am now going to narrate your journey, so that you are never alone. Or perhaps, you will be alone, but… Don’t worry about it.
You have three options for where you can spawn.
You can grow up within a small village, where you will learn to get by with whatever you can find, forage or make. Your community will be small, and your opportunities as such. The land nearby may be dangerous, but you will learn how to deal with it with your family and your community. You may have a shaman or priest about that could teach you some magic, but don’t hold your breath.
You can choose to grow up in a town, where there are a completely different set of issues. You may find yourself finding dangers from within your community, and out. Options open up to you, but there are also far more people vying for coveted positions and roles. Plus you have to deal with politics. Eugh, politics. There is probably a town mage here, or perhaps even two. They will be far more competent, but also busier.
Finally, you can choose to grow up in a city. Cities take whatever you can find in a town, and then scales it up by a large amount. Politics become far more prevalent, the disparity between classes is emphasised, and stepping out of your home could land you into trouble for a number of reasons. Here you will find a handful of magicians of varying levels, and of course, rank.
It’s up to you where you’d like to spawn, but I can’t give you more specifics until you pick, since it will be slightly randomised. Sorry.
So please, pick your answer.
Village.
Town.
City.
