《Lune Levant》Chapter 18

“I knew you were comin’. The village tykes—the ones that don’t know any better— they play around up here, and they tell me things,” the shark explained as he invited them in. “So I usually know ahead of time when I’m gonna get a visitor. I was just about ready to give up waitin’ for you lot; it’s nearin’ 11 o’ clock. Didja get lost on the way up here or somethin’…?”
“No, we only left the village about an hour ago. We are unable to travel during the day for…reasons,” said Pitch. Azor flicked his tail and huffed.
“Can’t go out in the day…? You’re gonna have a heck of a time gettin’ to the moon, then…the best way is to get out there before it rises. That’s the fastest way, anyhow…it’d just be a day trip. You could try to catch it when it sets, but I couldn’t tell ya how long that’d take; not right away…”
“How come you can only go when it rises or sets…?” asked Dreadlilocks.
“Well, ‘cause those are the only times the moon touches down on the sea,” answered the shark. “Unless you plan to fly up there…’course, if you could do that, you wouldn’t need little ol’ me, wouldja?” He flashed a brief, toothy grin.
~~
The shark introduced himself as Uriel.
Technically, he looked about accurate to the description they had been given— fish head, big eyes, lots of sharp teeth— but somehow he was altogether less intimidating than those features had implied. With his plain monochrome coloring and the blue coat draped casually about his nonexistent shoulders, he seemed almost mundane, despite being a talking sea creature with legs.
And despite the lateness of the hour, he didn’t seem to mind sitting up with the group to talk with them about their adventure…among (several) other things.

“…They call it insomnia, y’know,” he explained, leaning back in a rocking chair. “Every once in a while, I get in a mood where I can’t sleep a wink, not even if I try. Sometimes it goes on for days…”
“You’re lucky compared to me. I haven’t gone to s-sleep for six whole years,” said Lucy.
“Six years?? Why, that sounds horrible; you must be exhausted! I’m surprised you aren’t dead…they say you can die from that, y’know…”
Lucy grinned, apparently satisfied with this response. “…Well, I’m okay. It’s only because of a magic curse, so I guess it doesn’t count the same as a n-normal person not being able to sleep.”
“Oh, curses…I know all about that…”
“You do? Do you have a curse, too?? I mean, I guess you p-probably do, since you look like…well, I d-don’t mean to be rude, but—”
“No, you’re right; I didn’t always look like this…” he gestured vaguely with his fins, which were all he had left in place of hands. “…I’m guessin’ I’m not the only one, either, eh?” He glanced at Azor, who simply glared back at him.
“Oh, for all we know, he was b-born that way; he never says anything about himself,” said Lucy. “No one does; you’re the f-first person I’ve met on this trip who’s been a-any fun at all to talk to. N-no offense, Dreadli.”
“That’s okay; I know what you mean,” Dreadli replied. “I’ve been wanting to hear an interesting backstory, too. If Mr. Uriel doesn’t mind telling it.”
“Well, to be honest, I’m not sure,” he said. “I’ve never really told it to anyone…before I was too upset and embarrassed, and in any case I haven’t had many chances…people that’d actually listen, y’know? ‘Course, they do say you feel better when you talk about things…”
He resettled himself in the chair and tapped his fins together. “Well…it all started many years ago. When I was young and in love…”

The Lies They Told Me: Short stories from my life
Like many of my peers, I've discovered that life is not quite what I expected it to be. As I age, I've begun to find that many of the sayings and truths that my parents, authority figures, and friends have passed on to me were outright lies. Every person I know has been subject to the same interactions, which got me thinking, why not write a compilation of stores about my life experiences to date. I hope that this book will help all of us come to terms with the realities that we face today or deal with some of our deepest feelings about the past. Maybe these people lied to us and maybe they honestly believed the myriad of things they told us, but either way I think we can have a good laugh looking back and remembering the first times that we realized these things weren't true. I also hope that you can look back at the lies, or life lessons, that you've learned and can be inspried to own your stories and share them with others in a genuine way. Wiithout further ado, I hope that you enjoy the many short stories of my life that made me who I am today. These stories range from funny to down right surrel, so good luck on your journey!

Carefree Demon
"Let me ask you who is a demon?" In folk and lore, a demon is portrayed as a bloodthirsty, horrifying creature and an unholy being. This is not a story about a bloodthirsty demon who slaughters everything in front of him but of a naive child who was doomed, hated from his very birth, and was forced to take the path of a demon. Feared by the masses and hated by those who call themselves 'righteous', a demon lives in constant pain and endless ambition. The demonic path's inheritance is severed and the righteous path reign supreme. A young man lives in a village carefree and untethered by this cruel world until one day he wakes and faces the world head to head. Will, Leif rise up and control his own fate or will he go down in history as someone’s pawn. Witness Leif's journey as he grows from a curious child to a strong yet broken man as he transverses the treacherous and scheming world where it is to scheme or to be schemed against. ***This is the property of [email protected] The story is slow in the beginning but it will pick up gradually Read it until chapter 23 and the initial confusion will be cleared out. This may not be everyone's cup of tea but I urge everyone to try it out before you judge. Thanks a lot and happy reading!

Getting Hard (Journey of a Tank)
Herald Stone always built tank characters in every MMORPG he played. To be immortal—that was his first Goal, a simple childhood dream. However, the turbulent realities of life put an end to his gaming days. Years passed, and Herald Stone, now having attained success and stability, was presented with the opportunity to redeem himself...to fulfill his first Goal. Trivial? Childish? Others might think so. But Herald Stone always fulfilled his Goals—every single one. No matter what. Immortality beckoned in Mother Core Online, and this time Herald Stone would answer. Choosing a long-forgotten race, hidden away in an unknown region, the journey of an immortal tank begins. This is the tale of Herald Stone...getting hard. Schedule: Mon-Wed-Fri ~1.8k-2.3k words per chapter. Also published on Scribblehub. My other ongoing story: REND | Royal Road Expect a focus on building a true tank in MMORPGs. Heavy game elements and numbers are present. But actual math will take a backseat to strategies involving skill builds and synergies that steadily become more complex while remaining understandable. The main character is atypical in LitRPGs or web novels as a whole. He might take some getting used to. Character arcs will develop over a long period. What you see now will be different as the main character changes. The start of Getting Hard is slow-paced (more so than others of the genre) and includes world-building and character development before focusing on the LitRPG.
