《The Pet Dragon》Birdbrain

I was still a little weirded out by the whole glass dome thing. I had absolutely no explanation for any of it.
Well... I might have a theory. Or hypothesis, or whatever.
The glass broke when I mentally shouted my intent, which, by the way, I'm pretty sure I never did before I died. What if I had made that dome? I was rather fearful when I went to sleep, and then I had a protective shell?
I mean, what speaks against that? I'm in a world where dragons exist, so why not some kind of magic?
The thing was that I had no idea how to replicate what I might have done. I had tried the whole "looking inside yourself" thing, but that didn't do anything. I didn't feel any energy flowing through me or anything like that.
Dang it! A method to protect myself was way too important to ignore, but I was simply lacking any kind of starting point.
I might have to wait and see...
~Ugh.~
Frustrated, I opened the entrance to my shelter and came face to face with a giant beak.
As I froze up, the head the beak was attached to jerked to the side and I finally saw my reflection. Too bad that it was in the eye of a giant predatory bird.
My mind revved up as my perception accelerated, and I was able to have two trains of thought simultaneously. I took note of the bird's two strong legs that went up and out of my limited view. It also obviously had a long neck and, of course, the aforementioned giant beak.
That's a terror bird. How peculiar to meat a primeval predator that had long since been extinct on earth.
My other train of thought addressed my mode of escape. It quickly found a solution.

Through the wall. As soon as I thought that I acted upon it and sprang sideways through the flimsy wall of shed bark and ran as fast as I could.
I tried to weave around trees and through shrubberies in an attempt at evasive maneuvers. The bird had not screeched when I ran and even now was making horrifyingly little noise as it chased me through the forest.
It has a lot longer legs than I do. It had gained on me in seconds and only hadn't actually caught me yet because of my random movement.
Then we entered a clearing, and there was nothing for me to keep between me and my pursuer. Purely on instinct, a feeling in my spine, I threw myself to the side. It felt like a cannonball had hit me, and I tumbled head over tail. The bird had struck, but because of my last-minute safe had only given me a glancing blow to my flank. One that tossed me quite a ways away.
I picked myself up, started running again, narrowly evading another blow, and left the clearing.
I didn't know what to do! Yes, keep running, obviously, but even if I could dodge any more attacks, I had a lot less stamina than the raptor. I couldn't really hide because I either didn't have enough of a lead, or my hunter could just wait me out.
My side hurts. I was pretty sure something was broken.
No way to run. No way to hide.
Well. If flight isn't an opti—
I had wings! I could actually fly! Well, at least I could try.
Turns out I was out of time, though.
I received another hit into the same side as before and bounced off the trunk of a tree. Pain shot through me, and I could only see flashes of white dotted with purple-brownish dots. Everything hurt, and I couldn't move.

Then it hurt more as I felt something heavy settle on my torso. My sight cleared and I looked up into the terror bird's eye. It observed me for a moment.
As the edge of my vision started to turn black, I watched as it primed its head for the finishing blow.
Then everything went dark, and the last thing I heard was a deep screech.
Oh, now you wanna talk.

The Sea of Destiny
[Let me be straight with you. This is trash, like old dime store novel trash. Don't expect grandiose writing, anything profound, or much beyond being free of spelling errors. Like my profile says, it’s hopefully like a salty snack, decent and satisfying for people looking for this kind of thing (at least that's my hope). It is simple, weird, and most likely growing in ridiculousness as it rapidly escalates.] Michael just wants to get away after a rough breakup. He figures some time alone cruising on a sick jet ski will help clear his head. After a small series of mishaps he winds up as humanities last hope adrift at sea after nuclear devastation destroys the mainland. Will he be able to solve the mystery of the bowl of the ancients before nuclear winter freezes over his dwindling food supply? Who are these mysterious women he keeps meeting, and will he even care about the talents they bring to the table, or will he be too focused on how they keep ruining his carefully laid plans for survival at sea? Read this cheesy short story to see for yourself, and discover the true mystery behind the hand of fate.

The General Core {The Sphere}
The life cycle in the Sphere is on the brink of collapse because one of its elements, the Dungeons, have been exploited too much by the mortals. The group who created the Sphere already tried and failed with several modifications, because the original computer-like dungeon cores are too inflexible to handle changing approaches. So they try another type of solution – taking souls from other worlds to try to find a solution before the Sphere Cycle breaks down completely. The General was one of the best soldiers of his world, rising from the ranks of a private through Officer School to the highest command with honors. But when his world faced a zombie apocalypse, even that was not enough and he had to make the ultimate sacrifice. Now he is asked for a repeat performance of planning and controlling a dungeon and its spawns in a world that he knows nothing about… But what is the Sphere really? What is that [Xenotic conversion] he has to go through to even enter the Sphere? Something is really strange and he will have to find out what is going on to get to his promised rewards – whatever they will be. Being a soul in a dungeon core means that the General has better chances of finding hints to the truth about the sphere – a knowledge that would help him survive. And no, the sphere is NOT a virtual reality – the key to its secrets is the place where it was physically constructed (Author’s hint). This is a dungeon core story - but there are quite a number of things that I will do differently than common to those stories. 1) I will describe the floors when they are explored, NOT when they are build. Yes, that will mean it will take longer to get to those parts - but I think describing floors both when they are build and when they are explored destroys quite a lot of chances for suspense when adventurers enter the dungeon. After all, if you as the reader already know where the traps are, then you can't really be surprised when the surfacers encounter them. 2) How the world works (and how not) is an integral part of the story, so it will be explained I'm a world-builder first and the Sphere is NOT a regular world (as hinted in the synopsis above). Things will work differently than in your 08/15 default dungeon core stories - as the General and Gunny have already learned in the second arc (and more of that is already scheduled for the next weeks (July/Aug 2019) when the Sky Arrows continue to explore and evaluate that strange dungeon) If you don't like these premises, then I'm sure you'll find a lot of other Dungeon Core stories more to your liking. But if you are interested in more than "Dungeon builds another room and corridor in medieval earth" and are not afraid of a longer and slower story, then go on. I have two more stories in the Sphere, although they both have lower priority than this one: Shaleen the Wanderer (Adventurer, NSFW) (currently on hold after some chapters) Info's on the Sphere (System Docu and Short Stories) (irregular updates when needed) Current Status reports have been moved to a new discord server: https://discord.gg/EaHkXCfm9y

Moonblood
Five moons rise over Evanir, each in her own cycle, and each moon is also a god, one of five sisters. Many gods create spirit attendants and companions, brought forth fully-formed. Long ago, the moons worked together to create a lineage that are, instead, humans transformed by the mingling of blood. They intended them to be long-lived and to draw their strength directly from the light of the moon who chose each individual. The five sisters had different goals in mind – one wanted it to be a blessing for scholars and artists, to give them more time and fewer physical distractions; another wanted them to have an animal form, different for each, to keep them more in tune with nature so they could serve as guardians of the wilderness. There are drawbacks to their children having human lives and personalities before being chosen: not all share the goals of their divine mothers, and some choose to put their gifts to darker uses. Those carrying the blood of one woman, fleeing the corruption in search of a quiet life, take a different path. -=-=-=-=- Moonblood isn't so much a novel as a series of adventures of varying length. They involve a core group of people, which does grow over time. They take place in a fairly low-magic world, but despite that, our core cast are directly connected to the moons and have various abilities, including limited shapeshifting to a single individual animal form. As with all my work, unless gender, orientation, or other aspects of sexuality are explicitly stated, I suggest not making assumptions. Probably most significant, I think, is a major trans character who appears about 80K words in - no spoilers, just a note for those who care about that one way or the other.

Along for the Ride
Every child born on the continent of West Cartia is taught about the Great Goblin War but what the annals of history fail to mention is that the entirety of the conflict could be traced back to a group of four friends who stumbled into the currents of fate in search of a fantasy novel. This is the story of how a band of bookworms realized that when destiny pulled hard enough, struggling was futile; it was best to relax and go along for the ride. "A breezy, good time with all the trappings of high fantasy fun." - someone eventually (hopefully)
