《Luna》Her Remnant, case 2

Kevi never has a chance to enter the HQ gate, only watched it several times before. When she wandered on the street of D37, she used to get on the top floor of an abandoned mansion with Nikolai. They sit on the edge of the roof, drinking beer, watching the sunset shadowing the Berlin Fernsehen Tower on the living people walking by under the city. Nikolai said one day he will go out and see the world outside, not from here, or D14 in Paris, or D57 in Milan, but really go and living with them, those normal people with normal life. That Fernsehen Tower which could be seen anywhere in D37 has become his compass, constantly summoning people like him who banished from their homeland and searching for better life, she knew that. But Kevi's eyes were always attracted by another spot: U.S.S.A Berlin HQ, approx 3 kilos far, like a grey gravestone plugged in the Potzdam Platze.
Such impression doesn't change much when she's finally able to step in. Same grave-grey inside, with eveything be designed in cubic and round style, perfectly fit her supervisor standing by her side: simple, symmetric, and colorless. You know this place, the people in this place are professional and reliable, but they just make you suffocated.
"I suppose," Kevi mutters, "You must be the designer of the building, supervisor. This is your sweet home."
"This place designed me," Nemo says in self-mocking, "Like how street has shaped you."
Staffs dress in grey and black here have noticed Kevi. Some of them stare at her on the floor, some of them pass by with a curious glance left on her. None of them speak a word. Probably it's their way to show welcome to a guest, or maybe, to show hostility. She's not one of them.

"Perhaps I should change a dress like you," Kevi holds arms at her chest, "I think, I'm now kind of......"
Pauses her with a sigh.
"......understanding Auga."
"Auga?" Nemo laughs in light voice, "See the desk over the corner? That's her stuffs, she never told you about her daily work, right?"
Through the position where Nemo points at, Kevi finds some color first time in the building, like a blooming flower surrounded by grey desperate land. Dozens of anime figure, picture and graffiti on paper; a peashooter model from her favorite video game, with a Mothra model on it; a guitar signatured by her beloved rock band lies under her seat; and.-----
"A......teddy bear pillow?"
"It's called Misha, from 1980 Moscow Olympic," Nemo says, "Sounds like centuries ago."
Kevi closes her eyes, crosses her finger in her sleeve.
"Can't imagine how did she come through these to become an agent."
"Well, sometimes you need people like Auga in your group, otherwise the string will be too tight," Nemo says, "Did she tell you about the biggest smuggling we had ever dealt with?"
"What?" Kevi murmurs inwardly, "Me?"
"The anime smuggling," Nemo says, "Three months ago, unknow source of anime dens, which took us a lot of efforts to dig out. Agent Grinta was like sailing close to the wind. She pierced the anime books, page by page, and spread them across all over our departments. We won't find out the source, until one day, our Director Noah had found three pages of Detective Joker inside a Level III document......"
Burst into a chuckle, Kevi lowers her head down. A sense of relief comes and fades away, like a wind blowing a flickering flame.

"She never told me that."
"Auga is one of our best programmer," Nemo shows his card to the door sensor, "You need to set a genius like her free. She can take many special projects on her own that normal people must work as a group, if she is happy and with full operation. Look at her desk," he gestures the locked drawer, "all her treasuries are collected there. I promise, everything is safe and untouched by any of us."
Under the computer screen, there is a small photo labels by paper clip. Auga on the photo is making face to the camera. She sit on the beach, squinted her eyes due to the sunshine. She didn't have dark circles by that time.
"Luna, don't worry about that," Nemo's voice drags her wandering mind back, "Take some R&R. You've been through a hard night."
Seeing Kevi still lowers head, Nemo taps her back in slight move. As he trying to search for more words as comfort, someone else walks to him and interrupts.
"Bonjour, Wedenheim," that one nods at Nemo. He dresses in white medical uniform, with a surgical mask on.
"Morgen, Doctor Lance," Nemo says, "You haven't met our girl yet, right?"
"La princesse lune?" Doctor points at Kevi, but his eyes are still on Nemo, "I thought she would be older."
"That's how your code name came from, Luna," Nemo says to Kevi, then turns to doctor, "How's the back up?"
"It was totally a mess, look at how your girl had done," Doctor says with unhappiness, "Two bodies, a severely scalded victim, blood are just all over the place. We brought that unlucky fellow to the 'cemetery gate'......."
"What?" surprises Kevi.
"It's what we called our interrogation room," Nemo says, "Go on, doctor. Did you dose him the medicine again?"
"What do you mean by 'again'," doctor says, "That's what they paid me for!"
"Did he say something?"
"Say," doctor teases, "He's like mumbling things. I've told you many times, do not use the SP-171 unless emergency. It's not something breaches the lock of your brain, it just blows it up, like a bomb! He's destroyed now, Wedenheim, maybe asylum is his last home to return."
"As long as those fragment of his memories are recorded it's fine," Nemo says, "Send me a copy."
"Tape is on your desk." doctor replies, "By the way, seems like someone's already there in wait for you, in your office."

Mage Among Superheroes
Turlough is a mage. He also happens to be an orc, generally lauded as being less intelligent than humans. He was unfortunately born with the Curse of the Barbarian, meaning that he can’t level up except through combat- which greatly hinders his ability to show he can be a proper mage. In a world with necromancers, dragons, invading armies, and all sorts of other monsters he would still be able to advance quickly, but unfortuantely… that world is not his world. An unprecedented peace reigns across the land, and in the last several decades there’s been little use for people capable of fighting- and thus little reason for people to fight him. So when he sees a portal in his master’s study he takes it, hoping to find a horde of demons or something equally foolish to combat at low level. But instead he ends up in a strange city full of skyscrapers and people running around in colorful outfits. Superheroes- and of course supervillains as well. What dangers and opportunities could await him in such a strange and unfamiliar world? Only time will tell. Inspired by many things in the superhero genre, and Super Minion specifically- though while the setting will share some standard elements, it is an original setting that will hopefully be as engaging as many of the other universes. Schedule: One chapter each Monday/Thursday, approx. 2000 words.

Join him as he battles people with both the best and worst intentions, with his life on the line. Current Word Count: 136 000, First arc complete. A lot of new content has been added to the early chapters since the end of May. The first chapters are still under construction and editing, but all the major changes are done. I was a webnovel junkie for a long time, but I found it hard to find novels with solid characters, decent plot, philosophical underpinnings and a fully painted world to keep me going. I've taken from every genre I've liked to make a story that satisfies my own cravings for a good story. If you like the story or have suggestions please leave a comment or review. I hope this novel is fun, provocative but above all fun. Enjoy. Yours truly, James Paul Addington PS I will release at least two chapters a week, or one really long chapter. Concerning the tags: The story is primarily Fantasy with Wuxia influence in some elements. Romance won't happen for the first two arcs or so (roughly 40 chapters), I want to build the world before I do that. Tragedy is because of an event that occurs in the book, not the tone of the book. The book is more lighthearted. Slice of Life doesn't occur till the third arc (the romance happens during that arc as well). Magic will also show up more in later arcs, but appears throughout. Reincarnation it's not a reincarnation like in the traditional sense, but it has a similar concept.
