《With the Power of the SUN!》Chapter 8 – Magnetic Feels

Hyrum got up from the couch and pinched himself to make sure he was awake. Henry still stood next to the couch looking over him. Hyrum jumped up and hugged him.
“I’ve missed you so much. Things have been so scary while you were gone.”
“I heard and you ran away.”
“Sorry about that but I had important things to do.”
“Like destroying a building?”
“Yeah, really important stuff.”
“Are you ever going to change?”
“Probably not.”
Liam interrupted, “As nice as it is to see you reunite I am ready on my end for the next steps of this plan. Benny has a shift in an hour if you are ready to go.”
“I am ready,” said Hyrum.
“You are not going there,” said Henry.
“Come on let's skip the fight. You are not going there…. Without me right. That is what you meant to say.”
“How dangerous is this place Liam,” asked Henry.
“A bit dangerous. You have seen some of the Gravity Factory areas, so you are already experienced in the levels of danger.”
“Wait you went on dangerous missions without me. No fair,” said Hyrum.
“You should have ranked up to Helium and you could’ve seen it.”
“But that is too much work.”
Liam and the others finished up their work at the base and the pair left. Benny took them up to the Magnet Field Farm by hiding them in her pockets. Both of them were small enough that it wasn’t very noticeable. Once they got inside she let them out carefully.
“You got everything you need?” she asked.
“Yeah, I got the list. 1. Magnetic Field Farm Key Card 2. Infused Proton Canister 3. Wiring tools 4. Any additional wiring / hacking / cool-looking stuff that can fit in your bag. That’s everything right?”
“Yeah, I would start with the laboratories which are down a level from us. They should have the wiring stuff and maybe a spare canister. Try and find one that is at least half full.”
“Got it. Thanks for everything Benny.”
“Good luck. I will see you two back at the base once I finish my work shift. Hopefully, you make it.”
She turned and left them to explore on their own. The pair started by going in the other direction from where Benny left. The area they were in looked very industrial and the sounds of static filled the area. The pair of them carefully followed the signs so they didn’t get lost towards the lower level.

Once they reached the stairs they followed them down until they reached the lower level. Hyrum looked over the area. On one side was a large field that stretched on for about a mile. Above the farm, the ceiling occasionally sprayed something from sprinklers. Opposite it was offices where workers moved in and out of occasionally.
“What should we do?” asked Henry, “I mean you have done this stuff before. Where should we start?”
“I’m not sure and I forgot to ask Benny where the restricted area is. I assume we should be safe to wander around this area as long as we don’t cause too much trouble.”
“That may be hard for you to do.”
“I’ll try. Come follow me.”
Hyrum sped up to a little above his normal walking pace and Henry followed comfortably behind. Henry and Hyrum peeked in the windows of the rooms and checked out the stuff carried by the workers. They didn’t see anything they really wanted. Eventually, they came upon a service room. Hyrum tried the door, and it was locked.
“The door is locked,” said Hyrum exasperatedly.
“Of course, it is. It probably has a lot of dangerous or important stuff in there.”
“And that is why we need to break in and check it out. Come on help me get this door open.”
Henry obliged Hyrum’s request and with some force, he pushed the door inward breaking the hinges and opening the door.
“Come on we got to hurry. That was loud but good job.”
Hyrum took to searching the lower shelves and areas while Hyrum scanned the upper areas. The room was about the size of one of the office rooms, so it took some time to go over everything in there.
“Find anything interesting?” asked Henry.
“Not yet. Oh, wait I think I have something.” Hyrum moved a box and lifted up an item. “Check it out. It’s a flashlight with a gun attached to the side.”
“Be careful with that and put it down. Is it also loaded?”
“Of course,” said the Hyrum. The gun fired and the bullet bounced off the walls before embedding itself in a box.
“Put that down now,” said Henry more forcefully.
Hyrum slowly put the gun down and Henry took it.
“We still might need it, but you are definitely not handling it.”

“Fine. I also found some wires and a wire stripper so I will hold onto that,” said Hyrum a bit glumly. “You can be the one to kill people instead.”
“We are not killing people with the gun.”
“So, I can do the killing instead?” asked Hyrum as he swung the wire cutters around.
“We are not killing anyone. I hope. Let’s get going. The gun was too loud so let's get out of here.”
Henry took the lead this time and led them out of the storage area and back along the repeating path. Once they got to the mile point at the end of the farm the path split again into four. To their left once more was a field and the new path. To their right was the row of more labs and the intersecting roads between.
“Where should we go?” asked Henry.
“I don’t know. You choose this time.”
Henry looked around once more. “Fine, I choose to turn right. There must be something on the other side of these buildings.”
The pair adjusted their path and walked between the two buildings. On the other side of the labs, they found more factory-type areas and the familiar buzz of static.
“Should we go inside one of these?” asked Hyrum
“That’s what we are here for right?”
“Fair point.”
They entered the building on their left. Workers rushed around the place. In the center was a tall spire that was wrapped in coils. Around the sides of the walls were disks of various sizes presumably for the spire in some way.
“What is this thing?” asked Hyrum quietly now that they were in a place with others.
“It is probably for the magnet production for the farm. I couldn’t tell you what it is for though.”
“Look on the side over there. I see something on our list.”
Hyrum pointed to the opposite corner. Large wire followed the spire much like the last machine he had destroyed. Attached to some of the ends attached to familiar-looking canisters. This time they were marked with ‘+’ for proton.
“How are we going to grab it?” asked Henry.
“The same way I always pick things up. With my hands,” said Hyrum as he waved his hands in the air.
Hyrum turned to the canisters and approached them on the other side of the wall. He stopped before getting all the way there.
‘Which one should I take. There are three attached to the spire. Assuming the spire drains them evenly I should be able to grab whichever one I want but I don’t know if that is the case. Maybe I should just ask one of the workers.’
Hyrum stepped up to the nearest worker by the canisters and asked. “Are the canisters filled up?”
The worker looked over at him before expressing disappointment. “No, I haven’t refilled them yet. I will get it done right away.”
“Wonderful.”
The man hurried up to do Hyrum’s job. He was back shortly with a canister. He dropped it to the ground next to the others. The man crouched to switch out the canisters and Hyrum realized that the man had one of the keycards he needed.
“Sorry about this but I need one more thing from you,” said Hyrum with a devilish grin.
“What are you talking about?” asked the man.
Hyrum in a moment of quick decision decked the man in the face and he fell over. Hyrum quickly grabbed the key card and then the fresh canister. The entire building stopped, and people froze.
“Grab that Hydrogen,” shouted the slapped man as he clutched his cheek.
Hyrum started running but the full canister was heavy.
“Help me,” said Hyrum to Henry as he ran to him. “Shoot something or someone.”
Henry took out the gun carefully and looked for something to shoot. His eyes immediately focused on the half-filled canisters attached to the spire. He pointed his gun and aimed carefully. He fired off the gun until it was empty. Workers dodged out of the way as they exploded. The first did so quickly and the shrapnel hit the others causing the reaction. Warning lights flooded the place in red.
“The spire is going to collapse. Code Yellow. I repeat Code Yellow,” Shouted a worker.
As the worker shouted the place shifted. As Hyrum ran away with the canister in Henry’s hands he realized that he was no longer run on the ground. He floated upwards as he ran in the air.
