《Adventuring In A Unique Xianxia Universe》Flaming Link

As soon as Luke and Cang Yue took a single step through the portal, their eyes immediately met with a blinding bright red space. There wasn't a single inch of the area that wasn't brilliantly red.
But just a red space wasn't the only thing about the room. With one foot on the ground, Luke and Cang Yue's eyes spiked with immense danger!
'Hua!'
The duo swiftly split off in separate directions when a mass wave of fiery arrows blitz towards them with blinding speed!
Compared to the previous trial Luke sensed the fire on these arrows to be significantly hotter. Furthermore, the color of the fire was a bit different. The arrows had a more orange-red hue of fire than the standard red fire.
He couldn't pay much attention to cosmetic changes for long since, like ghosts, dozens of Phoenix arrows surrounded him, blocking off any avenues to escape.
The same assortments of arrows also surrounded Cang Yue, making sure there was no possible way to run.
'Zzzt!'
In response before the blinding fast arrows hit them. Luke and Cang Yue made their blue lightning aura flare-up in intense electricity.
Lightning crackled like a thunderstorm as the duo put a robust lightning barrier!
And in the same second, their barriers form the arrows were right on top of the duo.
'Chi!'
The Phoenix arrows were sunken into their barriers. Both Luke and Cang Yue had a hard time moving because of the sheer numbers and these arrows' mighty strength.
With a stern expression, the duo gritted their teeth and attempted to use their Martial Skill.
Their potent soul power quickly gathered in the Martial skill way, but their eyes had abruptly enlarged. The duo had sensed, from the arrows that hold them down, a sudden overload on energy!
All Phoenix arrows began to glow a dazzling orange, red shine!
In this split second of a dangerous situation. Luke and Cang Yue dropped their barriers, though when doing so,
'Chi!'
"Geh!"
One arrow manages to puncture deep in their shoulders, drawing fresh blood and staining their clean clothes. For them both, it was the first time blood has been drawn in battle.
Their blue lightning aura didn't matter the slightest in the face of these arrows.
Despite the intense pain and heat coming from it, the duo held a surprisingly calm mind. Using their superior speed, they flashed out before any other arrows could hit them.
While running, the duo grasps the arrow in their shoulders to cease the buildup of energy in the arrow.
'BOOOM!!'
From behind, a tremendous fire explosion knocked the two forward!
They both got sent tumbling forwards, nearly falling flat on the ground. And to their 'luck' up in front of them was another mass wave of Phoenix arrows sailing to them.
There was simply no chance to breathe in this trial!
"Enough! Xurueo!"
Luke was feeling endlessly pumped, however. These arrows massively pressured him, but his body was only roaring in adrenaline!
When hearing Luke's shout, like she knew what he was thinking, Cang Yue's hands began to glow brightly from her fingertips.
Luke as well made his hands' fingertips shine like lightning cracks!
"Lightning Binds!!"
Numerous blue lightning binds shot out the duo hands with furious tenacity!
From the start of the trial, not even Luke could sense the immediate ambush since he was going through a dimensional space portal.
But now, the duo was more than prepared to stop the Phoenix arrows.

Akin to slithering snakes, the duo blue lightning binds far surpassed the speed of the arrows. And the mass waves of Phoenix were then halted by the two!
Luke and Cang Yue had a small smirk seeing their attack work. Though, they sure as hell felt their fingertips burning up from concentrating so much energy there.
Alas, their advantage didn't last for long as behind them, more Phoenix arrows magically appeared, ready to skewer their bodies into bits and pieces.
And it was at this time the duo suddenly gained a bright idea!
Before the arrows arrived through them, Luke and Cang Yue poured a mass amount of soul power in their legs. An uncomfortable burning sensation spread through their legs, yet they only grit through it.
'Swish!'
With a huge jump, the duo blasted over to the bound arrows! And they weren't done yet as the two flipped themselves upside down in the air.
"Clash!"
Luke and Cang Yue swiped their hands to the incoming back arrows. Their actions caused an immediate response. All dozens and dozens of bound arrows sailed at an even higher speed to the rushing arrows!
'Chi! Chi! Chi!'
The duo was far above the arrows and watched as numerous Phoenix arrows clashed into each other.
Once they clash, every arrow cancels each other out, turning into little bursts of Phoenix fire that get absorbed into the red space.
At first, the two thought they were in the clear until their senses picked on something deadly coming right beside them!
With exceptional agility in the air, the two, nearly in sync, flipped their bodies to side.
An arrow that was too close for comfort sailed right past them, disappearing into the unknown red space.
Unfortunately, the two couldn't get a chance for a breather. Their minds pricked with danger that once again got too close for them.
In the same manner, Luke and Cang Yue narrowly dodge another Phoenix arrow that just barely grazed their clothes.
"Just keep dodging!"
Was all Luke could say, and in a repeated process, the duo kept on narrowly dodging arrows as they fell to the red ground.
Each narrow miss brought about an unbearable heat that was like skinning dipping into the sun. For any other ordinary Earthen Core cultivator, they would've been flayed alive at such flames.
In fact, unless one was extraordinarily perceptive and fast, not many can survive the first arrow ambush with minimal injuries.
Luke and Cang Yue didn't know how long they kept on dodging even when they touched the ground. But after what seemed like hours, when in reality it was only a few minutes, the Phoenix arrows mysteriously stopped.
Straight away, Luke and Cang Yue didn't trust the arrows stopping. The duo had immediately brought out their weapons for any other smart trick this trial has.
It was sharp intuition since a tremendous suffocating pressure envelops the two after bringing out their weapons.
From merely a few feet away from them, two beautiful feathers that held a red-orange mix floated down.
These pure feathers exuded a majestic divine aura, unmatched by any other ordinary mortals in the world. And then, the feather suddenly burst into spectacular Phoenix flames!
The duo wanted to rush, but once sensing the mass amount of power those feathers had, they opted to concentrate their own power.
With weapons in hand, the two made the tip of their weapons shine with dazzling blue silver lightning stars!

The earlier pressure the feather gave off was shredded away when Luke and Cang Yue began forming their attack.
Across from them, the pure Phoenix flames formed into two dangerous Phoenix arrows.
'Hua!'
It all happens in a manner of seconds. Two humans and the Phoenix's power roared to each other at speeds naked to the untrained eye.
And right at the last second, before forces clashed, Luke and Cang Yue eyes had a cleared glint!
'Chi!'
Instead of a massive explosion, the duo maneuvered their weapons to split straight through the majestic divine arrows!
The arrows split into two direct halves and fell into the red space, getting absorbed in the process.
Looking behind them, Luke and Cang Yue were ready for anything else!
During their intense dodging, their senses picked up on a single point in the Phoenix arrows where its flames were weaker than the whole.
And with ease, they apply that single point to the pure Phoenix arrows to miss what would have been, a rather nasty collision.
Fortunately, for their real first break in this desperate trial, a red portal appeared after the last arrow!
"Phew...I nearly couldn't keep up…" Now that everything was done with, Luke took a huge breath. His face was drenched with sweat, and his whole body felt like it was burning up.
Suddenly though, Luke felt Cang Yue's soft hand grab him, and he turned his attention to her sweet smiling face.
"At least somehow, we did manage to get through this. We both pushed ourselves to the limit. Ah! Look over to your shoulder." Cang Yue, like Luke, was also feeling the heat and exhaustion from the trial.
But they did get a pleasant surprise at the end.
"Oh? That arrow in my shoulder is now gone? Plus, I also don't feel that much pain coming from it." Luke said while swinging this shoulder around. There was soreness coming from it, but it would heal.
"Same for me. I only feel some soreness that I'm sure we both can work through. That is...if you're ready for the final trial?" Cang Yue had a determined smile since they were just near the finish line.
"Excited to finish, eh? Alright, let's go!"
Hand in hand, the two nodded to each other and eagerly marched right through the next portal without a second rest…
….
And what greeted the duo through the portal was simply...just a pure white space.
It was a different feeling compared to the red space. Luke and Cang Yue felt pure and relaxed here. In their bodies, they also felt a strange, vibrant energy freshen them up.
Like swimming through a warm ocean, this white space was incomparably relaxing.
"Hm? Is that...us?"
Cang Yue pointed ahead to two similar looking people staring straight at them.
Luke saw what she was pointing to, and it indeed was a splitting mirror image of Cang Yue and himself! The copies were merely staring at them with a calming and relaxed smile.
"It really is us...but they don't seem hostile." Despite the past two trials, this time, their mirror images didn't try to immediately attack them at the start.
In fact, the clones just seemed content with only standing and watching them.
Thinking about it, Luke took a step forward, and in sync, his clone took a step forward.
"So it's like that, eh? I think you know what we should do." Luke turned his head back and said to Cang Yue, who nodded in agreement.
"Quite curious. Not only does this space feel incredibly peaceful. I also sense no danger coming from our clones."
With each step, the duo took, their clones would move at the same pace. No matter how slowly or quickly they walk, the copies never broke from the originals strides.
Furthermore, during the walk, Luke and Cang Yue were feeling in tune with themselves and each other. Their blue lightning aura dropped, and any soreness from before was gone.
Subconsciously, they held each other hands, and the mirror copies did the same.
"Ahhh~, it's feels so free...I can let loose, enjoy myself without any ruling thoughts or proper image." Cang Yue didn't even notice it, but she started talking out loud, feeling too good from the great warmth and calmness.
"Do you usually feel constrained?" Luke asked, seeing this as a prime opportunity.
Cang Yue blinked, realizing what she said out loud but feeling the warmth and connection by Luke's hand and this place, she didn't mind at all.
"For someone like me, it comes with a standard to keep up images and appearance. And to those I interact with, some sort of distance would immediately get put up. But, with you...fufufu~, I just can't seem to mind your devilish charms~."
She was staring into his eyes as she told him this without the slightest of blush.
Perhaps it was because of this odd space that giving her this courage to speak out her mind, but Luke certainly didn't mind. The gorgeous face she pulled to him seemed to amplified under the beautiful white space here.
"It's most pleasing to hear you like my devilish charms. And I hope my charms can continue to work so I can have the honor to get close to a beautiful maiden like yourself."
At this point, the two stopped and stared deeply into each other eyes.
"Do you really mean that? Or do you just want another girlfriend~?" Cang Yue teased him, but inside she was a bit hopeful.
"For a woman that exudes an empress grace and has her wits about her, who wouldn't want to court you? But, I'm simply more interested in just getting to know you and hanging out with you more than anything. I feel like there's a lot to you that would be a joy for us to explore together."
As they flirted, the two got close to each other faces, and their breaths sent shivers down their bodies.
"My, so you do have respect. You must have a sixth sense since I too want to uncover the hidden mysteries of you~."
Practically at this point, their lips were merely inches apart.
Both of them got swept up in this space momentum, yet nothing that was said or felt was fake.
Throughout the trial, their soul link at a quick pace linked them closer. Every action that was in sync, and move perform together, amplified any rising feeling for each other.
It was like a rising dam ready to burst at any moment and then,
"How unprecedented. You two manage to flawlessly pass the final trial like this."
The divine majestic voice resembling a woman froze the two on the spot...

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
