Chapter 118: Envy and Jealousy

"Hmpf." Feng Meifeng didn't say anything to him as she picked up her bag, ready to leave the classroom.

But Lu Chen didn't let her leave as he grabbed onto her wrist, "Feng Meifeng, please. It will only be just a moment." He wants to clear up the misunderstanding between the two of them.

At first, Feng Meifeng wants to swipe Lu Chen's arm off of him. However, she didn't. "...Fine." From how serious his face is, Feng Meifeng decides to hear him out. She sits down at her desk, waiting to hear what he has to say. Lu Chen took the seat in front of her so she couldn't escape.

"Alright, for starters, I'm sorry for calling you a vicious gorilla. That was rude of me, and I got a little too hot headed for my own good." Lu Chen bows his head down when he says this. He knows it is partially his fault that Feng Meifeng got caught in this mess. It was due to him talking down to her that she got furious.

Feng Meifeng blushes at his sudden action. She never expects Lu Chen would start off with an apology and a bow with it. The prideful and spoiled Lu Chen is bowing his head down to the middle-class class monitor. If the students found out what he did, it will definitely cause a big commotion the next day. She quickly says, "It's fine, it's fine! I overreacted as well. You don't need to bow your head to me."

When Lu Chen heard her accept his apology, he smiles. "ok, that's good. Now that we have that part out of the way, there's something else I have to ask. Why are you always so insistent on what I do?" Lu Chen had realized that Feng Meifeng had always looked over what he does to the tiniest detail. There was a clear difference between how she does it with him compared to the other students.

“ I understand that it’s your duty as the class monitor to watch over the rest of your classmates. But I felt that you always especially focus on what I am doing like a parent. So I just want to know the reason why you are so focused on me?” Despite being the worst student of the grade, it doesn’t grant him the consistent pestering of Feng Meifeng. He had always felt her pestering was something that goes beyond what classmates should do. It felt like Feng Meifeng had become a second mother for him.

Feng Meifeng looked down and became silent. The two of them sat there in silence. Is she too embarrassed to say it? Lu Chen didn’t understand why and was going to force her to say it more until Feng Meifeng said, “It’s because I’m jealous and envious of you.”

“Jealous of me? Why would you be jealous of me?” Lu Chen didn’t expect an answer like that out of her mouth. He was somebody who was called scum and everything above that. He was the ultimate villain. Lu Chen couldn’t understand why Feng Meifeng would be jealous or envious of him.

“ I’m not jealous of how you are. Let's get this out of your head. What I'm jealous of is how you have such good backing. Do you know how many people would kill to have your backing?” As Zhang Jian said before, Feng Meifeng was a girl who was born into a middle class, maybe even lower than Long Shen.

“You have such backing, and you’re slacking off like it is nothing. Do you know how much jealousy and envy I have for you? People like us have to work our ass off to get to where we are. While you were given a silver spoon at birth, and yet your not doing anything with it.”

Just seeing how Lu Chen was moping around without a care in the world pissed her off to the extreme. It felt like a slap to her face. She knew if she had the same life as Lu Chen, then she wouldn’t have acted the way Lu Chen had been doing. She would have cherished every moment as she would work as hard as possible. Trying to not lose the expectation of her family.

“That’s why I keep annoying you to do better. I don’t want you to slack off and destroy your life.”
